I am thinking of this laptop too. I think it is quite significantly slower than 192-bit bus. This is another drawback. I am worried about the audio quality too. Heard that the input is seriously under-powered. Any source that reviews this?


Nice! Makes me wanting this more. Haha. Could you run a test for gpu z? Heard that 2gb 560m has 128-bit bus instead of 192.

Intel has better driver for non-experience user.

It actually has no big difference if you are using 512kb streamyx with either 6230 or 6300. But it would have big difference if you are using high speed internet like UNIFI. I usually recommend Ultimate or Bigfoot to high speed internet users, and Advanced 6230 for user who needs internet range and bt.

Side ntoe: Intel Advanced 6230 is the most stable card among these 4.

The default Sager WLAN card is manufactured by Clevo.

1)Any of u guy have the 6970, or all get nvidia card, this 6970 got any bad problem or not. Amd 6990m is coming out soon, dun know whether should I wait, $ also another factor to consider. Is the difference big between 6970 and those gtx 485, 580 and 6990. I men in real life, can really feel it or just on paper?

2) thermal paste, can it be done easily by by us, should i order it with the laptop?

3) windows 7 is a sager oem one right? so If we change our laptop in future, it can be use as long as the new one is still sager notebook. Save cost in future purchase. Am i correct.

4 ssd, If i want to use it for boot drive and application and may be few games, all movies, data on the other 500gb 7200 disk, 60gb enough or i should go for 120gb? sata2 or sata3? any good brand? ocz , crucian m4
or intel?

5, the wireless card, I have a vostro 3750 with intel card n1030, something like that. If I downloading at full speed, firefox wont be able to browse, always keep loading, or show white page with error, or stuck. For 6230, 6330, did u people face any problem with them? any recommendation? I hate to stop browsing when I downloading stuff.

1. You can ask Devina_8 since the user use CF HD6970M (I believe)
2. The thermal paste will be applied on the laptop during unit building stage. So no need to worry about.
3. Kindly ask those who buy the laptop with windows.
4. That depends on your budget. 120 GB is good enough for me.
5. I use intel 6230 wireless module. Can download at full speed (based on internet package) and also able to browse the net smoothly.

AMD Radeon 6970m is phased out around 1 month ago. You would not be able to get this card in Sager machine right now.

1. Get a GTX485m or wait for the new 6990m, the best cards recently. However, my senior in Sager said there is no 6990m news on Clevo side.

2. Please do a lot of homework before applying the thermal paste, when thing comes worst, it will burn your motherboard, cpu or gpu. It's not an easy job for first time-user.

3. Yes it is Sager OEM recovery win7 disc.

4. 500gb hybrid 4gb ssd drive is the best option for you. Note that the 4gb ssd doesn't mean the ssd storage, it means the 4gb flash memory on the 500gb hdd. Its performance is very close to SSD and has a 500gb storage. If you are getting a NP8170, I recommend you to get 2 Hybrid drives and make them raid-0.

Hello i am Clevo X7200 User with AMD HD 6970M CrossFireX, The Card is really good and even the performance is single option is quiet satisfying but i am not sure when they gonna bring the 6990M to the clevo based laptops, cuz i am looking forward to upgrade both of my GPUs to 6990M but no news, THE TEMPS are prretty much good and mine with being DUAL GPU never been over 80 --- difference between GTX485m and 6970M is not that much and you will not feel it much since all the current games running with the playable FPS of over 30 or 50 except metro 2033 and crysis 1 and 2 .... the diffrerence of these two with 580m and 6990m will be from 10 to 15% however we dun have much info from 6990m option, but i heard this card gonna be available after the official release at Q3 or Q4 2011 for clevo laptops, Most OF the difference between this cards in single configuration will be in bechmarking, I stil do believe we gonna be able to play all the upcoming games like Duese x or Skyrim - batman and rage on the higher settings (except DUAL configurations ) - 6970M is still available .

4. im not sure between the quality of intel SSD with other companies cuz im a new user to it also, i have a 80GB ssd and recently i got a 510series but i havent install it on my 3rd storage since i planed to get another 750 to make RAID0 - but even for me the 80GB intel SSD is still enough, i have some daily use APPS like Word and phtoshop or convertor in SSD and all the other apps like games are stored in my second HDD and i use 3 1TB external drive for my other things .....

5. i have the bigfoot card for wireless and from my experience with alienware with intel wireless and macbook this bigfoot works great sicne its trying to keep the speed at a great stability over programs and i got very better results when i download from torrent and work same time with browser .

Thanks for u reply, the uk reseller Kobolt release statement saying this card got high failure rate and sager also sudden withdraw it previously. Make me worry. But this card amd 6970 just come back to sager few days ago and after hearing from u experience, i feel better and more confidence in it now. Thanks.

I just check out www.malibal.com, (are they clevos machine?) their spec and pricing for Satori P170 are totally same as sager 8170, so I can treat them as same machine. Amd 6990m is delivery by mid of august, costing US $295, even cheaper than gtx485. Gtx485 cost 295. It is stated in the customise section of P170.

But amd 6990m is only available for p170 , P150 and not x7200.. funny!!! but no worry, we can switch laptop, i dun mind..hehe.. lol

how much will it cost for trade in u old card for the new one?

Actually, this is the scenario I am afraid to get into, amd 6970m cost US$65, and amd 6990m cost US$295. Can the performance of the card justify the cost?

Headache...... which one should i get? guys, please help me out..

If you are not rushing and willing to wait, why not take HD6990m straightaway?

US $295 -65 = 230 =678.96 MYR and just for 15% more performance.

Actually, there are other reason as well, if i get the 6990m, I may want the 3d screen since a lot ppl said the stock screen is horrible. (from notebook review forum) then I have to get gtx485 at least, and wifi may get bigfoot.. and i also want ssd, not more 60gb one, must at least 120gb... there is no end... A laptop the most last 3 to 5 yr, if it is not break at that time, u will also get bore with it and want to get a new one. haha..

Furthermore, it is also a fun challenge to create a good gaming laptop with least money.

Initially, i am trying to get hp 6001tx, since it has good price and good spec. Rm3100, After I discovered sager, i found that add in another 1 to 2k, I can get 2 fans, 17" screen, 2 harddisk, 4 ram better graphic card, then why not try to do a good gaming machine with reasonable price.

But if I keep on going for the top spec, the price will go up to real expensive range, Currently, my price is around S$2k, if I go gtx or 6990 or Nidvia card, it will go up near 2500. Then I calculate from dell australia, if I get the 12% discount and claim another 10% gst, the price for M17 with 6990m will be $3100. Then I will start thinking, only S$600 difference, i can get a alien machine with blink blink... lol

There is no end. Better keep within budget... so when ppl ask what laptop u got, just tell them sager gaming laptop with 2 fans, 6970m, 2 hard rive, and bla bla bla. then they ask u how much it cost, reply 2k... they will be in shock.. haha... (real life experience with my brother in law) lol

But I am really not decided yet. Let me do some more research, ask here and there. Hopefully, would not make the wrong choice.

AMD won't neglect the driver update for their cards. There is always have a driver updates.
The thermal paste usually will be done by reseller.

being phased out means it gonna be replace by other model soon usually haha....but in reality terms means no more ...... no always cards are supported with drivers, even much much older cards are still supported by the current and upcoming drivers .......the stability of these cards are pretty good and even much much better with new drivers of 1.7 specially crossfire scale ( back to before 6970M CF still has a better scale compare to its own nvidia competitor 485m sli ) well no issue i experienced so far with this cards

- the thermal will be paste when the laptop is being built, chhoooosssee the Ic diamond and dun worri about your temps, i have a 6core 970 cpu and dual gpu of 6970m on my np7282 and i dun have any problem with temps ..
