Just bought 2 sets of Onkyo HT-S5300. Very good price. Selling for RM1999 per set. This is a great system for those who want a powerful audio experience for a modest price. The sub was huge 10" that can shake your room. The sound is awesome.

This is ideed a very good price. However, I read in other forums/reviews that the receiver gets hot after a while and starts to drop audio/video for connections via HDMI. Do you experience this problem?

I have no problems with the receiver getting too hot. It does get just a bit warmer. This is normal. As long as your getting good airflow around it you shouldn't have any problems. So far I have tested few Blue-Ray movies, and no problem with the audio/video quality.

I m using this unit too. no problem so far.

It's another example of the price gouging in Malaysia. In US the street price is only around USD 500-550!!

So yes RM1999 is more appropriate price. 3799 is a rip off.

Not sure how much different is this from the one which TS bought.

Myself originally bought this HTS 6305, paid £400 in last x'mas. The receiver is quite good for low budget, speakers to me, they are just fine if you are going to place them into a small room, else you want something bigger. I had only tried its centre speaker for a few week, ended up upgraded the entire 5.1 speakers for better quality of sound.

To be fair, buying this set is a bargain if you are not planning to spend more on speakers/ subwoofers.

I think when I was at Harvey Norman looking for an LED TV month ago, the salesman did approach me this model but my budget was around RM1500-RM1800......damn, now I felt regret.... but anyway this is only a 3 stars model.........

For such hot promotions if you wait for replies on this forum the stock will be gone. When u hear about it, quickly take initiative to call the store and find out.

btw, this model is using similar AVR as Onkyo SR508, right?

the cheapest AVR 508 I could find is RM1400..that mean the onkyo speaker set 7.1 only cost RM599...arrrrghhhhh..

Yes HTS5300 receiver is exactly TX SR508 only that they renamed it to HT R580 instead.

but HT-S5400 with avr name HT R590 is not TX NR509..right? perhaps it's TX NR579..not?

I think NR code is for avr with network, TX SR508 is without

Last 2 weeks ago HN got clearance fair from 13/5 -17/5. Actually I went there to try HT-S3300. But the salesmen recommended me this set. First day, they just sold 3 units. I did not buy it on the spot. Then the next day, I went there again and still available. No more thinking then I paid for 2 sets. The next day, they called me up and ready to picked up. The salesman told me that the display unit was sold out too. As I knew, the display unit with scratches also have been sold out with the same price RM1999.

How's the sound?

Sound was great for this price. Im not audiophiles type.

I just bought one onkyo ht-s5300b at harvey norman warehouse clearance in shah alam warehouse today but it's rm2799 not rm1999. Damn i feel like being cheated cuz they said that was the lowest price ever =(

I heard HN warehouse sell at RM3399? Now at RM2799. Very good price already. This set really good for entry level for home theater setup. When the time I bought at RM1999, maybe only 5 sets are under this promotion.

2799 i think better get last year model receiver / network capable receiver, cheapest now for 1.8k then 1k can get decent bookshelf / find cheap 5.1 set

err..HT-S5300 is last year(2010) model..this year they got HT-S5400..

simply put it like this..break down of the RM2799..
HT-S5300 is using AVR same as the SR 508(last year avr model), which the cheapest priced is RM1400..
so, the speaker set 7.1 is priced RM1399..

just got my HT-S5300 last week at HN Klang Bkt Tinggi for 2588. Last three unit. New unit wrapped. Last I saw still got one available. Tested on 1080 movies and concert. Sound is good and solid. Totally love it.
