need some help on how to clean my dog's butt. my dog reaaally hates it when i try to clean his butt and when i say reeaaaaally i really really mean it. if i remove one piece of poop from the butt then i try to touch again he snarls at me. no, not growls, SNARLS. i tried spraying water at it for about 30seconds but as expected, it won't come off because the poop dried up already. any advice on this? other than bringing to the groomer every 2 weeks or so just to clean the butt .

My Shih Tzu also face this problem, until 1 day mom bought a pair of scissors with tooth and I started snipping away all the excess fur. Problem solved.

About the snarling, try muffling the mouth. It will make it submissive.

my maltese had this problem too but that time i will clean it immediately before it dries up, and her poo also is firm type so easier to remove.... but now i wrap up the fur around the butt away from the anus opening, so no such problem already....

but now the problem is he won't even let me touch the butt. and its really hard to hold him steady while holding the hose to point at his butt and try to clean his butt at the same time ><, if i don't hold him he'll sit down so i can't reach his butt.

btw muffling as in put on the muzzle thingy?

probably he thinks that he is dominant over you.... dominant dogs dont let the lower members sniff or go near their butts....

use a muzzle, and have someone help you hold onto it.
also better check whether your dog has diarrhea...or is your dog's butt fur very long?

Yeah, it's the muzzle. Once it's muzzle, it won't move that much anymore, let alone snarling at you.

just get a roll of news paper and whack him...

every time he do grrr at you or doing dominant action.....

not to hurt him, just to show him who's boss....

i dont understand how ur own pet can refuse ur touching/cleaning any part of his body. Yes, he may not stay still BUT he shud not growl or snarl at you.

i think it;s a matter of habit? if u have trained him since young, u wont hv any probs. My poodle son will automatically show me his butt to ask for cleaning or i can just turn my female poodle on her back to clean her private part. Or i can at any point take away their bowl while they r eating w/o being bitten by them.

try to discipline ur poodle...it;s not too late

actually my dog doesn't bite at all. all he does is bark only sometimes. he's not those guard dog types where if got stranger come he faster run to check that person out. he always just barks at the person from a distance, only when the person approach him then he'll sit down and let the person pat him.

to be honest i've never cleaned my dog's butt until recently. because normally he poop he doesn't leave any stains so i don't have to clean it. only recently his poop started getting stuck at the butt area.

Mine seldom get poop stuck these days unless they have diarrhea. But usually to tend to my dogs (Shih Tzus), I put them in a headlock hahahahaha. Then i do that I quickly work through their butts with whatever I want to do. They struggle for a little bit but after that settle. They do nip me if I pull too hard, but after they nip they quickly lick me and look sorry. All of them have the perimeters of their assholes shaven. One of them, has it shaven down to the skin so he's got a pink naked butt!

Mine is Mixed Lab. never train him to let me handle his butt or tail.
He won't bite but naughty. He always turn away so that the butt is farther from my reaching hand..
and has his head in my face..he wants pat...
