fyi, during a 'touge' trip with friends, the d01(rear) survived an average speed of 160km/h down from cameron to simpang pulai. but it was partly help by the good suspension setup.
the gps which was sticking to gecko pad sway and drop while the car still planted to the road brows.gif .
anyway d01's sux' in wet.

both had it's own pros and cons.
with directional tread usually perform better in downpour due to the tread's pattern and depth.
but this will be very much depend on compound material.cons; it tend to be noisy and in some case,
get the better of alignment.
overall, asymmetric tread pattern offer a quieter ride and very minimal wind noise generated
by the tires.

stick with falken ze-912 then. not much choices on 14".
the michelin equivalent is a tad more expensive.

your front tyre is probably of directional (V) shaped tread or tread quite worn out. this particular tread pattern tend to be quite noisy than it's symmetric or asymmetrical tread pattern, even more when the tyre's tread is wear out to 60% or so.
also, if your car is more than 5 years old, those slightly worn out arm bushes may contribute to it.
try to jack up both of the front tyre, put to free gear and spin the tyre, also, hold right / left and try to pull out a little, if there is no free play(while pulling) / no humming sound( spinning), your wheel bearing is fine.

if you're on stock wheels, wheel bearing could last for more than 50k km mileage.
if the problem only occurred when you swap the rear tyres to the front, the noised is caused by the worn out tyres' tread and not wheel bearing.
since you travel a lot, replacing the front tyre with new ones might be a better solution than replacing the wheel bearing.

for normal driving, falken 522 fits your budget. at least its wet grip is still better than those of silverstone synergy m3 and indonesian made forceum or whatever is it.

exactly.but considering the noise factor, 522 is fine for a non-spirited driving style.
nexen (non-directional) is worth a look too. or, perhaps, continental comfort 5 if they have it in 14".

check THIS out for tires pricing.
alternatively, you could ask Nestum in garage sales if the atr sport is available in 14". since the tires treadwear is 400, it should last more than 60k km or so.
cheap and grip is quite okay. i used 'em for drift session due to cost constraint.

reef_d@
center cones is aluminium type? if so, price is very high.
also, 120 bucks for camber screw is pricey.
btw, i used to buy sport wheels from david and ah kit too. big selection of wheels.

csc5 was introduced about the same time with re002 and asymmetric2.
now am spoil for choice.
btw, csc 5 and asymmetric 2's tread pattern is almost identical!

conti cc5 is okay for normal driving style. without short burst of speed or hard cornering.
regarding on the tires pressure, you can follow the manufacturer recommendation or.
else, 10 kpa higher is fine.

tHe^CuLpRit@
profile 55 should be okay for 6.5"jj wheels. tried before. outer sidewall looks flat thou.
perhaps you should consider 195 for more grip and slightly higher price tongue.gif

that one you seen on the proton door side.
your tires pressure is fine. perhaps, you need to wait a little longer until the tires fully run-in.

kazekage_09@
on the earlier reply, i posted the basic method to identify if it was the wheel bearing that caused the noise.
anyway, to be more detailed, how old is your car? was your ride tend to be quite bumpy lately?
since car is not around, kinda hard to pinpoint the reason. am not a mechanic either. just sharing a knowledge.

if it was the wheel bearing problem, the humming sound will be noticeable even at 30km/h.
other than wheel bearing. worn out or hardened lower arm bushes may caused the humming sound.
your engine mounting is fine?

for a year old car, bushes and engine mounting rarely giving problem.
down to tires choice and wheel bearing. which tires brand and model you bought?
perhaps, wait a little longer until your new tires fully run in.

coolkwc@
to get the accurate reading, check the tires' pressure when the tires is cold. ie; morning or only driven for a kilometer. anyway, 250kpa is too high for comfort.

reef_d@
hr2 and v8 sux. v8 sometimes caused inaccurate alignment thus tires require swapping.
better go for more expensive hankook's v12 or s1evo.

you can check the price HERE
15" will give a better handling. 195/55/r15 should be okay.

yours is forte 1.6 or 2.0? if it was 2.0, changing the tires may require calibration of mdps module.
for grip and comfort, you can try ps3.

reasonable price. maxxis ipro should offer more fun, also the noisiest. if you're on tight budget, could try the yokohama a.r1.
possibly avoiding the ns700.

since it was of directional tread, stay away from it if noise is one of your priority.

not really a fan of continental. perhaps, you could google up for review by other user.
autoworld or zth.

nexen is fine but quite noisy thou. other option like falken ze-912 is comfortable but thread wear out a tad faster.

[wta] any decent 195/50/15 tires to recommend?

below RM200 if possible
*
what is your preference? comfort and quiet or spirited driving style?
15" kumho ecsta range should be around 200 bucks. continental comfort 5 is comfortable but sidewall is much softer
thus unsuitable for spirited driving style.
also, accelera atr sport is quite decent for its dirt cheap price.
17" cost me less than 230 each and am currently trashing it here. the thick tread is kinda suitable for the rough asphalt road.

what to do if my front left (passenger side) tyre going botak ? now after alignment oso the car swerve left
*
you have to change both of the front tires to new ones at once.
other option if you're on tight budget ; if your rear tires is still in good condition, swap both of the rear tires with the front ones and buy a used tires(similar brand / model / tread pattern tires / age) to replaced the worn out tires.

stay away from dunlop's indonesian made fm901. tread pattern is nice but with 220 treadwear rating does not
do justification to the performance.
its grip and traction in wet sux' big time. tires does not help esp. when we get used to late braking.
here is my experience with fm901 ;
-lousy wet grip.
-'floating' feel during high speed and the directional tread does not help in aqua planning.
-a lot more noisier than gsd3! i posted my experience using it in v1 tread.
even the achilles atr sport perform better than fm901.
hankook or federal is definitely a better choice.

quite rare. obvious choice is the lousy nct5 and maybe the slightly better csc2 which is oem of neo.
yokohama dna series used to have 'em in rare size.

- new absorber tend to be slightly harder than those worn out ones. depending on brand. those 'ayam' brand will not last long thou. better go for reputable brand like apm, sachs or monroe.
- the new silverstone tires might have a harder sidewall compare to your continental.
wait till tires fully run-in.
- you can change at any reliable workshop. psc usually charge higher.
- in your case, vibrating steering could be due to worn out steering bushes or tires / brake factor. have you do wheel balancing? since its already 40k km mileage, about time to do brake fluid bleeding and get rid of the bubbles.

ze912 used to be good but compound is on the softer side, hence the shorter tread life.
the new tread pattern with slightly different compound does not offer as much driving pleasure as the old ones thou.

quite good in dry but wet grip sux'.
skid at further distance during wet braking.
if you really tight on budget, silverstone evol or achilles atr sport worth looking at.
