Hi, need help with buying laptop.

I have an Acer 4740G which I bought 1 year ago but really want to change it because it OVERHEATS easily and shuts down automatically. But that only happens when I play Starcraft 2 sad.gif

Budget is around RM2500, preferably international warranty, i5/i7 with graphics card that can let me play some of the newest games and won't OVERHEAT easily.

Thanks for all your help guys!!

1. Brand - Any, preferably those for gaming
2. Budget - ~2.5k +-
3. Specs - Starcraft 2(at Ultra Graphics preferably), MOST IMPORTANT DOESNT OVERHEAT...
4. Size - >14" or larger.

Unfortunately you won't be able to get the best of both worlds for a 2k budget, so its either a better CPU (for work) or a better GPU (for play):
For work:
Lenovo G470, i5-2410M + Intel HD3000@RM1999
Acer Aspire 4750, i5-2410M + Intel HD3000@RM1999[2.3kg]

For play:
A43Sj, i3-2310M + Nvidia GT520M@RM1999[2.44kg], Colors:Red/Blue/Pink/Green/Gold/Black
Pavilion G4, i3-2310M + AMD HD6470@RM1999
Acer Aspire 4743ZG, P6200 + Nvidia GT520M@RM1749[2.25kg], 3 years local limited warranty

if you can up the budget a bit, then these:

MSI FX420, i5-2410M + AMD HD6470@RM2099, FreeDOS/RM2299(W7HP), 3 years warranty
Acer Aspire 4750G, i5-2410M + Nvidia GT 520@RM2199[2.3kg], 3 years local limited warranty

Do take a look at HP DV6 or Asus N53SN (if you can find one since its EOL-ed already) laugh.gif These 2 are better in terms of GPU compared to the 5750g
Those equivalent to the 5750g would be the Asus N53Sv, Lenovo Y560P, MSI GE620 and Dell XPS 15 nod.gif You might wanna take at those as well before making your final decision rclxms.gif

You might want to try cleaning the dust off the vents as well as the fans of your laptop 1st laugh.gif
You can reapply thermal paste too if you're feeling adventurous laugh.gif

For your budget, the best GPU you can get is an Nvidia GT540m, in these models:
Acer TimelineX 4830TG, i5-2410M + GT540M@RM2499[2.2kg]
Asus N43SL, i5-2410M + Nvidia GT540M@RM2599[2.4kg][Bang & Olufsen]
Asus A43Sv, i5-2410M + Nvidia GT540M(1GB)@RM2399[2.44kg], [6-cell 4400mAH]
Asus A43Sv, i5-2410M + Nvidia GT540M(2GB)@RM2599[2.44kg], [6-cell 5200mAH]

Hey everyone.

I know I've posted multiple times in this thread before asking for recommendations, but please bare with me.  tongue.gif

I'm off the college within a week, so I have to get a laptop fast.

But if there will be newer, better models coming out then I don't mind waiting up to a month to get it.

Anyway, here's the details:

1. Brand: Any

2. Budget: RM2000 to RM4000

3. Specs: SandyBridge processor and mainstream/performance GPU preferred. If possible, match or win my current desktop's specs (i7 860 + HD4770 + 4GB RAM). High battery life (more than 5 hours). Chiclet keyboard. Back-lit keyboard for bonus points! drool.gif

4. Size: Preferably 14" but 15.6"/16" might be considered if there are miniscule difference.

5. Use: Microsoft Office, media (video and audio) playback, internet browsing

6. Priority: Laptop design > Specs > Thickness > Weight > Screen Size

That's about it, thanks in advance!

lol, so many criteria laugh.gif
I don't think you should ever compare the performance of a laptop to a desktop, unless if you have a lot of money to spare laugh.gif
I'm assuming you would want a multimedia laptop and not much gaming.
Some models you can check out:
Asus N43SL, Asus N53Sv/Sn, HP DV6, Dell XPS 15, Lenovo Y560P, Lenovo Y470, MSI GE620, Toshiba Satellite P745

5750g is a laptop model from Acer. Its in fact one of the 1st with Sandy Bridge in Malaysia laugh.gif
Acer
Aspire 5750G, i5-2410M + Nvidia GT540M(2GB) @RM2399
Aspire 5750G, i7-2630QM + Nvidia GT540M(2GB) @RM2899

Well, according to reviews the HP DV6 is quite good. Not very sure about the warranty, but should be the same as other manufacturers lo (except Dell); you might want to ask at the dedicated HP DV6 thread for better feedbacks.
Well, a new replacement is up for the N53Sn....

hi all smile.gif looking for recommendations for a laptop

brand = any
budget = RM 2k
use = for my folks who are leaving for china, should i get them to order from there straight?

i'd do more reasearch but running short on time, limited budget, and it's for my folks and not my personal specific use

(old folks just want something to go online, skype, multimedia etc etc, no specific hardcore uses/gaming)

any recommendations? would assume go for
best usability
good warranty coverage
reliability
best batt life

instead of super fast processor/GPU

and budget 2k, i saw the checklist in the front and saw sooo many options, pening :S

It comes with AMD Zacate, a rather powerful APU capable of some mild gaming (way better than what Intel has to offer by the way haha laugh.gif )
For a netbook, the AMD E-350 offers a rather decent CPU, GPU power as well as good battery life...

Well, it depends on what you want nod.gif
If you emphasize more on gaming performance, then HP DV6/ Asus N53Sn....
If warranty, flexibility and multimedia, then Dell XPS 15 (But you should extend the warranty)
If bang for buck, Acer 5750g, Asus A53Sv, N53Sv

Personally I don't think there's such a thing as being overpriced laugh.gif
Most people say laptops are overpriced because they only look at the CPU and GPU laugh.gif

All Sandy Bridge associated chipset issues had been fixed (quite some time ago) lol laugh.gif
No worries there~
Yeap, no problems handling high settings, but you might want to get a decent cooler pad to further increase the cooling efficiency nod.gif
