There's only ONE veterinary school in Malaysia, and it's VERY competitive to get in, especially via STPM.
If you love MONEY de hua, don't do veterinary medicine, being a vet won't make you a billionaire. Do business. |

Ok, I can confirm here, vet's salary is not over 10k, very misleading.
After grad, you can join small animal (ie open clinic for pets), join pharmaceutical company such as animal vaccination company/drug company, or become technical service vet for livestock industry such as chicken farm, ruminant, aquaculture, or feed company Fresh grad usually get salary of RM2.5k to RM3k, depends on MNC or local company. Some local livestock company only offer RM2.3k. Those who interested to open their own clinic, usually will work for established famous clinic first, to get experience after 4-5 years then will open their own clinic. As for your own clinic income, really depends on your service, location etc... so less than or over RM10k per month, all depends on your skill. Pharmaceutical company, usually MNC, provide better offer and training. New vet get to travel around the world and salary increment is much faster than local company. After working for 5 years, maybe can get around RM5-7k salary with other benefits such as car and allowance. 10 years experience maybe above RM10k, still, all depends on your skill and how much money you can generate for your company. Those business minded vet, will start venturing into selling drugs, vaccines for livestock industry and these people really earn big money. |

QUOTE(passionboy @ May 7 2011, 03:54 PM) before this you opened so much threads asking about medicine, now your asking about veterinary. There's just two places offering vet courses in Malaysia so go get yourself some good STPM results first. UPM and UNIMAS. QUOTE(passionboy @ May 8 2011, 08:33 AM) With only two places offering Veterinary and both of them being IPTAs, getting into medicine in Malaysia is way easier with so many medical schools around and with the low entry requirements some of them have. This post has been edited by Hikari0307: May 11 2011, 10:46 PM |

You could work in industry, in some of the things mentioned above - not just in animal healthcare, but also in welfare, farming/food production, innovation etc.

QUOTE(passionboy @ May 8 2011, 08:33 AM) Don't lose your passion just because it's harder to get in. You were so motivated back then, what makes you de-motivated? Anyways, don't give yourself a backup plan so early. Do your best for your STPM, only when your result out, should you consider alternatives. If you consider alternatives now, it will only hinder your study progress. |

Honestly, the pay for vet services is generally on the high average.
Most animals lovers can afford to pay for treatment, health check and even "psychological counselling"! Have you heard of animal counselling? Apparently it's quite hot in European! |

Because a vet will have to do the job of a pharmacist as well besides a doctor's job to animals. |
