u can't choose pickups by brand la friend...
u should know what u want then only get...
dun decide on brand then the sound it produces.
look around la.. ask people who have emg, duncans, dimarzios...
if u can try their guitar better still.. it may sound different on ur guitar because of action and ur body's wood but at least u get an idea of how it will sound like.

no discussions about piezo PUs?

I was thinking of building a solid bass body with piezo bridge pickups and no onboard electronics. (kind of like the Line 6 Variax minus the Variax)

Then you could theoretically play with contrabass strings...hahahah

Wonder what sound will come out leh? rolleyes.gif

cincai screw some wood together oni la...hahaha
It's just for the sake of experimenting. I want to see how "true" piezos can sound. I am striving towards a contrabass sound on a fretless. With magnetic PUs cannot even come close due to the steel strings. So i wanted to try piezos to see if i can get closer with contrabass strings or not...

Mark Knopfler... biggrin.gif

Eh, your hums comes with 4 conducter wires right? Didn't you wire it so that you could reverse the polarity with a switch when you installed your pups?

Oh well, I thought you wire it that way heh.
Perhaps you could install an additional switch like Jimmy Page. tongue.gif

I read somewhere that active PUs not only increase the signal output, it also helps to regulate the signal strength.

Referring to bass PUs... When u turn the volume knob down the high freqs (10 kHz) get cut out by the standard fender Precis and Jazzes. But on active basses, the high freqs still come through on low volume. How does an active PU achieve this?

And apparently there are active PUs and passive PUs with active on board preamps.... Whats the difference? Do active PUs use electromagnets instead of permanent magnets? If they use electromagnets then 9V generates a pretty weak magnetic field if i'm not wrong...
Also, whats the difference between 18V system and 9V system? (besides MORE POWER!!!)

soooo manyy quesstionnnsss whistling.gif

*EDIT* missing sentence.... doh.gif

yea active PUs have a very weak magnetic field, thats what the preamp is for to boost signal.
also basses have active eqs.
active eq eg it adds treble when you turn treble knob, rather than passive which cuts bass instead to make it sounds more trebley.
18v system you get more headroom, the pickup sounds more open etc.
