QUOTE(thieflord @ May 4 2011, 07:40 PM) my dad has depression for the past month.. now he stays at home, not wanting to go to work. he says he "no mood" wan go work, and thus chooses to stay at home, doing nothing.. it's been like this for over a month now.. im worried about him and our family's financial status.. his business also hangs in the balance cuz he's nt working for over a month already.. any advice? From the way you described, your father is avoiding the reality world as if he is losing hope to his live.need some advice to motivate him and return himself to normal... thx.. May be he might think that what he is pursuing in his whole life is worthless. Hence, he start to give up his hope and dream in his life. Outdoor activities can help to change his mood but the priority is to find out the root cause. Your siblings and family members need to find out the cause of your father's depression no matter what. Besides, care and motivation is required to open up his heart to speak up. The sooner to find out the cause the better so that it will not become more serious. So, it is advisable to get a counselor / motivator to motivate him and to give him encouragement. Cheers! |

I have below feel symptoms, wat should i do now?
- can’t sleep or you sleep too much - can’t concentrate or find that previously easy tasks are now difficult - feel hopeless and helpless - can’t control your negative thoughts, no matter how much you try - much more irritable, short-tempered, or aggressive than usual - consuming more alcohol than normal or engaging in other reckless behavior - have thoughts that life is not worth living (sumtimes will have for awhile) |

QUOTE(nasrulbond @ May 5 2011, 09:46 AM) well, if your dad still depressed for quiet a long time, maybe its time for you to seek a doctor. sometimes medications like pills also can cure depressions. Feeling occasional sadness is normal and it usually goes away after a while or a few days. However , if we begin to feel very sad for a prolong period of time, then something is wrong. When the prolong sadness and "no mood" affects our daily life and function, it is a medical condition called Depressive Illness. Just like medical illness such as infection with high fever and high blood pressure, it is better to get a check up from a doctor. If a psychologist or counselor thinks that the depression is serious, they should refer to a psychiatrist. Remember that every case of suicide affects 20 people related to the deceased. And suicide is preventable if Depressive illness is detected and treated early. Here is a checklist to screen for depressive and anxiety illness.
