i have tested both. and i listen to mostly jazz/acoustics/soft rock and some pop which closely resembling your taste of music. and my advice is, get the SHP-895. in fact, i'm telling you to keep away from the SHP-805. tongue.gif

the bass, mids and highs on those 805 is accepatable considering the price (which is half the 895), but it lacks depth, stereofield and soundstage. really, the depth is just not there. you won't get the sound that you will get with the 895.

the 805 is also brighter than the 895, and is easier to drive compared to the 895. even my Apacer USB MP3 player could drive it quite well compared to the 895. and while the 895 would definately benifit from external amplification, the 805 would stay static.

the 805 is lighter than the 895, and doesn't clamp as hard as the 895. but for the sound that you will get, i strongly suggest the 895 over the 805.

Have you tested the HP1000, btw? Is it a worthwhile upgrade over the HP 895?
*

i have no idea. never tried the HP-1000, but it's really tempting. anyone that have tried the HP-1000 and SHP-895 wanna give some opinion? with amplification of course, since HP-1000 needs a good amp to shine.

QUOTE(pukarix @ Aug 29 2005, 09:15 PM)
mikechai...u r tempting me to buy it...hehehe for the price, overall its ok?or anyother opinions?thumbs up or otherwise?
*

overall? it's good. really, give it some burn-in time, around 40-50 hours and the sound will definately get better. for half the price of the SHP-895 you wouldn't get half the performance of the SHP-895.

QUOTE(lemon_lime @ Aug 29 2005, 10:09 PM)
Considering that i don't have an external amplifier to drive the headphones, will the 805 and the 895 still have a noticeable difference in performance? Or will they be of no difference and i would have wasted RM110  tongue.gif  sweat.gif
*

what soundcard do you have in mind of pairing it with?
from my experience, yes, it will. considering that you don't plug in it Chaintech AV-710. even an Audigy/Audigy2 ZS (that has internal amplification) would be enough.

QUOTE(The Scourge @ Aug 30 2005, 01:30 AM)
Er, the 895 and 805 seem to be cut from the same mould, i.e. aren't they identical, size-wise? Anyway, I had no issues driving the 895s with my Audigy, Prodigy or MP3 player. Still had enough headroom.
*
nope. the 805 is smaller, and is oval-shapped. not to mention that it's lighter, a lot lighter. the 895 is kindda rounded shape.

if you wanna have a portable can that you could wear on the street and not look so dorky tongue.gif , get the 805. the Audigy/Prodigy does have internal amplification right? and as for the MP3 player, some couldn't drive it well enough.

Emppy not getting something like Emu 1212m as stated the siggy anymore ... ?

I'm already extremely satisfy with HD555 ... So I'm sure HD650 would be a great choice too smile.gif

By the way, many seniors have said that the HD650 requires an amp to properly bring out it's true quality and capability ...
*

and one that has lots and lots of voltage. the output from the Elite Pro *might* not able to provide enough voltage swing.

but then again, i could be making a mistake.

Well if thats the case, the M3 just might fit the bill. It's a well designed DIY headamp plus they also sell the PCB boards over here http://www.amb.org/audio/mmm/ Just need to get the board and parts and you're ready to go!

Good luck building your amp, i know one other member here has already built one and another is thinking of building this as well  smile.gif

for HD650, a PPAv2 would be a better pair. the extra resolution from the diamond buffer should compliment the Senn veil better.

but then again, the discreet diamond buffers are quite hard to build. even experienced builders have a hard time building them. part counts for the buffer is much higher than the MOSFET output used in the M3.

if you're experienced enough, parts count and complexity should be no problem, taken that you're using a printed PCB. and make sure that you have necessary tools. a digital multimeter should come in handy for troubleshooting.

but then again, M3 is better supported in the community (both in Head-Fi and Headwize), and there's tonnes of info floating on the web. it's your choice anyway. an M3 should be easier to build, while a PPAv2 should have the extra resolution to cater the veil.

even if you have experience with a CMOY or simple amps before this, take my word for it, you WILL get into trouble building the amp. just that the M3 is easier to troubleshoot.

the 1212-M will have to wait, i'm more of a gamer than an audiophile and only the XFI cuts the butter for my framerates and EAX needs.
Not a tube person, it's the digital solid state era man! tongue.gif Trying to design an Opamp for this baby, but seriously, i'm too freaking lazy to start will all the hastle and then production of a PCB, etching away the copper and that smelly acid, ewwww. Any good high CMRR and cutoff OPAMPs to recommend?

don't ever listen to a tube setup. i will indefinitely spoil your mind. the poison is indeed strong. biggrin.gif

some good Opamps to try includes the AD8620, AD8066, AD843, OPA627, OPA637, OPA2227 and some models from Linear Technologies (forgot the model).

I didn't get an answer for my previous post, can any1 please recommend me a headset (headphone wif microphone)?

My budget is below RM200.

It'll be used for online gaming using TeamSpeak, and maybe used for other VoIP programs as well. Thx.
*
you don't get a reply maybe because most of the dudes in here don't use a headset. in fact, i myself just use an all-cheapo $15 SOMIC headset.

or, you could however, get the SHP-895 for $180-something and glue a mic to it.
viola! you got yourself a HiFi headset good enough to brag. thumbup.gif

or the Philips HP-1000 and the Class AB.

try PMing Futura or Medufsaid, they did tried the Philips flagship HP-1000 with my Class AB amp and from what they said, the HP-1000 improves a lot.
well, high enough to sit on the level of the HD-600. yes, they did tried the Senn HD-600 also.

^ man, we should make another gathering. the HD555, HD595, HD600, HP1000 with a few tube amps, solid state amps, portable goodies, and yada-yada.

it's much easier to choose your setup if you could audition it.

Isn't enough for setup cmoy + headphone below RM600? Or looking for multimedia speaker? For info my s/card Chaintech AV710. laugh.gif
*
that soundcard don't have enough current to drive a headphone. ok, maybe enough for the $15 SOMIC headset. but if you want a proper setup, get yourself a headamp.

or just stick with a speaker setup. but a headphone setup should give you much better listening experience than a speaker setup for the price. but then, it's your choice. i know i won't bother my AL speakers anymore. whistling.gif

is the 595 with flat drivers too?
there's qutie a big difference when placing my ears in the cups. nearer to the front makes it a lot closer to the drivers and vice versa
oh yeah, the drivers are nearer to the front  sweat.gif

ifer, *may* be selling soon, depending on whether i can afford to keep them  tongue.gif
*
the HD595 is supposed to have angled drivers where the sound is more forward and -in-your-face- experience.

Looking for something that does it for me in the Rock and Pop department. But i'm torn between the horrendously ugly RS-2 from Grado and the Not so ugly but flimsy AKG-701 (over priced over here tho)

Reason : Well, even with an Amp the HD650s sound abit too suited for anything besides Classical tunes, which i love ofcourse. But who doesn't love the dirty sounds of badly recorded Jpop once in awhile eh?

So, i'm really torn between the both, although the main reason i'm shying away from the AKG is the insane price over here, about 2900 ringgit and it seems flimsy, i'm not a small or careful person at that tongue.gif too. By my estimate the grado RS-2 should be far more expensive and the 325I be in the AKG 701 price range, but this is KL, it's all screwed up.

So just give your honest opinions and reason on which i should get, and thanks for any advice.

EDIT: I don't mind any other recommendations as long as they're sound.
*

you've tried amping the HD650? mind telling what type of amp exactly?

A friend of mine had a tube amp, IIRC it was a custom made one, he said it was made by a friend of his, i'll assume it's a SOHA since those are the most widespread enthusaist designed tube amps. Wasn't really bothered to ask about the specifics, went to his place to makan rather than play with amps tongue.gif

And if you're asking, no, haven't had any experience with solid state, most people i know are tube junkies and i'm really too broke to get anything solid yet after my binge of earlier purchases this year.

I prefer getting my headphones first since i want to pair them with a single amp that gives both the best sound possible.

edit : spelling mistakes.
*

the SOHA is a very new design. only chernloon and Futura have it. and based from the development thread in Headwize, i'm the only one in Malaysia that's building it.

Ever tought of the cable upgrade for the HD650? The Zu does add abit more spice and punch without loosing the smoothness. But of course, with the price of the cable plus a little top up you can get yourself another pair of headphones  rclxub.gif

One more thing about tube amps..  I've tried my HD650 on the Doc's SOHA and different version of tubes does give different sound signatures. Electro Harmonix gave a very distant and large soundstage whilst the Ei is very close and intimate. Red Hot Chilli Peppers sounds very much alive on the Ei..  thumbup.gif Try rolling tubes if you have the chance, it'll help i think  wink.gif
*

speaking of which, i'm also preferring the Ei Elites over others. might be too bright on some setup though. bass is a bit more defined on the Ei, though the soundstage does seem a tad smaller.
