Hey guys, can you recommend me a good set of headphones for PC gaming? my budget is RM200-RM300. Requirement :
-cable must atleast be longer than 1.5m because my PC is placed on the floor. -comfortable to wear for long periods of gaming.
-good quality sound of course. Not too much bass. Good balance is important.

Okay, after reading back a few early pages, it seems that Grado sr60 seems to be the popular choice. So can anyone direct me where I can buy this headphone?

Looking at the design of the sr60 it looks...mighty uncomfortable >_< are they?

after reading all 20+ pages...
darn you Alamak for not trying out the 895. tongue.gif

Now I need answers if I should get a 895 or the sr60.
So what'll it be?
I'm a little worried that the sr60 might not suit well for gaming, since not many reviewed it gaming-wise. And I doubt the shop would let me try it on a PC XD
also...

<---wearing glasses
would it be uncomfortable?

And no, I will not top up for a HD555. I already starved myself to buy an awesome graphic card last month and i don't plan to do that again. ^^;

the sr60 that i tried, i feel it lack of bass
IMHO, shp895 is more suitable for gaming

Bass is not a problem, since I was never a fan of bass in the first place. As long as there is a 'balance' between treble and bass is good.

So its the 895 I should go for?

I'm going after work, which is 6pm. PC will close in 3 hours, so I don't have much time ^^;

and what do you mean the sr60 'leaks'? you mean the sound 'terkeluar'? as in other people can hear outside?

Today I went window shopping at City Square for the Grado SR60. Its already 9pm, so the shops are obviously closed.

And I must say, they look like junk! XD

I mean comeon, the packaging, the look of the headphone, it just simply looks like something you just grabbed from a pawn shop! Comparing to modern-day wrapping, the 895 look so much more appealing. If I would buy the sr60 and bring it home my mom would propably ask...

"how much did you pay for those 'new' headphones?"
"Erm...about RM300?"
"WHAT!? You pays Rm300 for that piece of junk!?"

If Grado is so damn good, they should really design a better looking box for something that has a RM299 pricetag.

even the reviews says so :

QUOTE
Grado seemed like headphones from a bygone age, but they sure as heck dont sound like it...

QUOTE
They're made in Brooklyn, and they look as if they stepped out of a '60s music studio, with their black plastic backs and retro styling...

QUOTE
They look like AV lab equipment circa 1981 yet cater to audio snobs...

...I will grab them tomorrow... XD

alright, this is my impression of the SR60

"Perfect!" Is the only word I can use to describe these pair of wonders. I really can't understand why you guys said the bass was 'light' The bass was perfect! It 'balances' so well with the treble without muffling it. Its truely something that I've never heard before.
I was skeptical about the comfort of these phones, but putting them on really removes all doubts. The SR60 IS comfortable, I thought it would be something that circulates around your ear, but no, its 2 pieces of reasonably thick sponge leaning on your ear...wearing glasses well not make you uncomfortable, since they're not in the way.

The sponge makes you feel a little warm on the ears after a few minutes of use though ^^;

Even better that I haven't even burn-in them yet. So it sound is just gonna get better and better

The only downside is the 'leak'. The entire living room can hear what I hear under these Grados.

My mom loved it, my younger brother loved it, just as much as I love it. XD

Guys if you can afford Rm290 for these babies, think no more! get it and experience sound like never before! thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

Grado rocks!

PS : I didn't even bother to try the SHP895 because I'm already more than satisfied with this. XD

I bet u haven't listened to other higher grade headphones, so u're satisfied with ur SR60...
wink.gif
Listen to HD555, i am sure u will be more than willing to eat maggie mee next few months...It just simply blows SR60 miles away... tongue.gif

Alamaklor
If u said do not believe in what u listen to HD555 w/o amp, does it mean Kenlui and Geminist listen to fake sounds all the while... laugh.gif (just kidding, don flame me...)

Well I did try out the HD650 at Mediaplex KLCC. Honestly, it doesn't sound like what its suppose to be. Firstly, its so soft, I need to crank up my mp3 player to full just to get to my normal listening pleasure, and then, while playing my' Advent : One Winged Angel' I can clearly hear static/distortion/noise throughout the song. So it did leave a BAD impression the first time I tried it.

The SR60 on the other hand shined like a chest full of golden coins to me ears. XD

lol So if you've already spent RM1.8k on a HP650(Mediaplex price), you need to spend another 1k+ for an amp just to make the phones sound as it were suppose to be? XD

BTW, can you plug in a headphone AMP onto your Audigy soundcard? I checked out the Grado headphone amps while buying the sr60 and it costs 1.6k(ouch). Theres only two holes behind the battery powered amp, one is black and one is red.

What I were using before the SR60? A RM40 earphone from Sony and Cambrige Soundworks PS2000 speakers for the com. biggrin.gif

Ermm a question about my SR60. How come when I tried to cover the back of the phones with my hands, the sound quality just...'drops'?

and is there anyway I can reduce the sound leakage? XD

You mean you covered the screen of the earcup? Don't...it's open cans. The way u did defeats the purpose of the cans. I must agreed it leaks a lot...if you want to get the best sounding, listen to it in quiet environment.
*
yeah I covered them with my hands cause I thought it might reduce the leak...it didn't. It also caused the sr60 to sound terrible. doh.gif Would it damage the phones if I did that?

I bought a new one for RM190 at Mediaplex in Midvalley.

Sound is pretty promising but the bass is a bit weak to me. Treble is fine. I can feel the improvement from the upgrade of iPod's earbuds. But overall I'm satisfied with it.

Might seek into higher end Sennheiser headphones in future for my non-portable device, haha smile.gif

Nooo...go for the Grado path instead!!! cry.gif
