My comments on Panasonic HJE50
A little dissapointed on MIDs balance, too harsh which make it sounds noisy when the vocalist reach on higher pitch. Solid Bass (overclockable bass) not muffled unlike EX51.

:: Music category ::
Perfect for on classical instrument, movie score & new age. Very noisy when playing Metal.

:: Solution ::
Need to play with sound customisation to make it more balance = 'polished'

::Rival::
The Panasonic HJE50 is your best choice than Philips SHE9500, although HJE50 has 'noisy mid' you can feel the bass.

However, given 3 choice of canal phones; Logitech Playgear, Philips SHE9500 & Panasonic HJE50, personally I select Logitech Playgear .

:: Basic Comparison::
Ease listening; Logitech Playgear
Bass head ; Sony EX51
Clarity; Panasonic HJE50
Louder; Philips SHE9500

(Personal comparison preferences)
1. Logitech Playgear
Some says not worth, less details, responsive Trubass (55Hz)
2. Sony EX51
Bassy, Trubass recommended (58Hz) , suits with most DAP, jack@ss cord quality vmad.gif
3. Panasonic HJE50
Tight Bass, Mild Trubass response (53Hz), very potent by value, user EQ needed

4. Philips SHE9500
Weak Trubass test = failed dry.gif, sound customisation required otherwise sound was szucks like hell

btw; all test base on experience, not professional test

Maybe the clip-phone type ?
most earphones are not design for younger person or one who have smaller ear. The bigger the better dry.gif

HJE50 is so so quality ?

Doesn bad at all, all you need is to lower the HI & trim the MIDs (via user EQ). It also has solid cable & cord quality compare to Sony EX. laugh.gif

seruz
Exessive bass pan would result to bass distortion, it can be happened with any earphones, Althought hje50 dont have strong bass responsed you can fell the bass. Attempting to play without proper sound tweaks can hurt your hearing, it doesn't matter either too bass or too Mids.

Perhaps you may not to increase the bass but to reduce the MID & HI below '0' for the trick. This is where users eq play the role; for balance.

Kelv
For RM50 I suggest go for Sony MDRxxx 'fontopia' type, around RM40, then apply with erbuds sponge (from handset accessories shop) for comfort. The Aiwa phones also has sound production.

I got original EP 630 (after getting the fake one dry.gif ) for RM45 in lowyat* today, retail shop mostly selling for RM80.

After listening, I compare with my Sony MDREX51, Logitech Playgear, and Panasonic HJE50; The Creative EP 630 knock them all.

Not only cheap, the sound is more wider (6-23khz ) accurate & has superb bass than EX51, clear MID's fidelity, and not too harsh HI's unlike HJE50.

But the canalbase / the rubber caps is small for my ears ;even the bigger size. So, I take & replace with my EX51 rubber cap for maximum isolation. Blast!!!

*pm me for the shop name so they didn't notice & raise the prices laugh.gif

For around RM150,which earphones are recommended?Currently considering Creative EP630 and Panasonic HJE50.Thanks in advance.

He was preferably used 'earphones' than 'headphones' type.
Other good earphones is Storm ZV500, Creative EP480, Sony MDR fontopia series, Senheiser MX series.

QUOTE(LittleGhost @ Nov 6 2006, 07:17 PM)
He likes the mx500 design type of ear phones better than anything else. So i was wondering if other than MX500 and MX550 do i have any other choices?

Heh, althought it's not his birthday, i feel like giving him something.

Fontopia just a series name, some place rebrand as Nude series.
State your budget & ep series to compare. For MDR EP90 but its bloody xpensive (rm300+) not sure but driver looks similar to MDR888 (rm150+). Iv this earphones good la but not a canal types. EP640 is good, perhaps the most balance earphones I EVER use (since AIWA EX11). Strong bass, crystal clear treble & moderate mids. someone selling in garage sales. But you can get the same patent (OEM) called Storm ZV500 (now using), same cases with EP480, cheap plastic but the earphones sound quality definitely same. I suggest you try Storm ZV500 1st since the price you have to pay is RM15 only (All IT selling RM68). Alternately if you like canal phones, maybe original Creative EP630 (<RM50), bloody cheap but good

enCORe, about Sony MDR Fontopia right,
how is it if compare with the MDR-EX90LP?
and how about the if compare Fontopia with EP480?
considering to buy a better phone.

I just notice that "fontopia" design earphone range from RM25 to RM479,
actually what is fontopia,
and what "fontopia" represent?

Nice audio range, dont have EX71 but reviewers mention EX71 has more bass. My EX51 has sufficient bass range maybe EX71 is overbass. But then avoid this phones due unreliable cord quality, easy tearing.

EP640 not sure for current market price but mostly above RM80,
