IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT!!

TO ALL FELLOW PPLYNC MEMBERS WHO ARE DRIVING PERSONA ELEGANCE:

If you have ever experienced sounds (tak tak tak tak tak) coming from your engine during cold start in the morning, then it MAY BE one of the infamous Proton's manufacturing defect: the IAFM problem. IAFM noise is most noticeable during cold start, and you may hear the frequency of the noise going up or down depending on the RPM that the engine is running at. The noise is identical to a diesel truck or lorry's engine idling noise. Once the engine has warmed up, the noise will become softer or totally eliminated. This is because the plastic components on one of the valves on IAFM expands with heat. Below is a video of a member's car with IAFM problem.

So far the problems that may be associated with IAFM noise are nothing major, but in certain cases it may cause severe throttle lag, and the noise may get louder over time. Some owners have even experienced increase in fuel consumption and bad engine response.

If you visit the service centre and the mechanic or service attendant tells you that the noise is not caused by IAFM as our Persona Elegance comes with new batch of IAFM modules, DO NOT believe what they said.

You may:
1.) Ask them to diagnose and tell you what exactly is the problem since they insisted that it's not IAFM module noise.
2.) If the mechanics at CoSE tell you that the noise is not caused by IAFM, go to a few different SCs, have them to check your IAFM module for imperfections on the valve, then get them to write a report each. Compile these reports & bring it to CoSE's customer service and file a complaint, give it to their higher authority.

Now, do remember that they may not be able to figure the noise out if you send your car to SC as the engine has already warmed up. Park your car and leave it there for an hour or so for the engine to cool down, then get the service attendant or mechanic to listen to the noise as you start the engine.

Again, I would like to stress on this main point as I've experienced this myself and wasted almost a month plus before sending it to a different SC just to have the noise diagnosed as IAFM problem; If the guys at CoSE tells you that it's not IAFM problem but your guts and 13 other SCs tell u that it is, then it IS IAFM problem. In my case they never even bothered to check as the engine has already warmed up and the sound was gone by the time the mechanic laid his hands on my car.

This serves as an important announcement to all Persona Elegance (PE) owners as to not overlook this small issue that may lead to greater problems in the future. The price of IAFM modules has dropped since year 2009 (from RM 1200+ in late 2008 to RM 2xx in 2011) because of the frequency of Campro IAFM engines having this problem. Still, it's our right to claim the IAFM modules as they are covered under warranty and malfunctioned units are manufacturing defects. We should not wait till the warranty period is over and then pay them RM300+ including labour to fix a defect that is there from day 1 of ownership of the car itself.

I hope all the Persona Elegance owners out there take note of this issue and do not keep an eye closed.

Salam 1 Malaysia, & Harap Maklum.

Pros of RS:
1. Higher working temp.
2. Doesn't need to warm up first every time u start ur car to provide immense braking power.
3. Less fading, lasts longer.
4. Less brake dust than OEM pads.
5. Price.

Cons of RS:
1. Needs bedding in.
2. Not so well known like MKT.
3. Can be spongy if not bed in correctly.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Q. Are the brake pads good enough for my fast & furious driving characteristics?
A. Yes, definitely more than good enough as these are high temperature brake pads. As long as it's bedded in correctly, it will work better than most pads of the same price.

Q. What's bedding in?
A. Bedding in, or burnishing in, is an important process that must be carried out in order to ensure that the brake pad compound can properly mate with the rotor surface. If done correctly, it creates a nice, even, transfer film of pad compound on the rotor surface.

Q. Will it affect my warranty?
A. No, as the warranty for our cars does not cover wear and tear items such as brake pads and tyres.

Q. Is it better than other well known brake pads such as Bendix MKT & Ceramic Nao?
A. I can't say much here, but I've personally tried MKT on another car, it doesn't satisfy my braking needs. I haven't tried Ceramic Nao before though, so I can't comment much.

If possible, a TT will be held where buyers will be given their brake pads and will be taught on how to bed in the brake pads accordingly & evenly.

RM 130 only, need at least 10 members here to get bulk price. Might be able to get cheaper if more people join the bulk.

ATTENTION TO ALL MEMBERS WHO JOINED THE BULK!!!

The bulk order will be left open till Tuesday, May 3rd @ 11:59 P.M.. As soon as the order is closed, members will be required to bank in the FULL AMOUNT (RM130) into a Maybank account. Of course, if you would like to bank in earlier, you are welcomed to do so as this will speed up the ordering process if there are 5 or more people who pay for the brake pads in advance.

So far 9 members has already paid the full amount for the brake pads, I will need at least another 1 member to pay up front the full amount to make the order.

PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF THIS and try not to delay the payment as to not consequently delay the delivery of the brake pads.

Thank you.

The names that are striked out are those who have already paid the full amount for the brake pads.

Can be done, but only after all 3 current bulks are signed sealed delivered & paid for. Furthermore, it's quite damaging to the members' wallets to have 3-4 upgrades costing over RM 100 at once. Unless of course, if u guys dont mind then I can go source for dealer for bulk price. Mine I helping u all bulk only. Brake pads, air filter, spark plugs, light bulbs all I have already. More like I'm the test mule here.

Osram Nightbreaker review = So far so good, brighter compared to conventional lightbulbs. Easier on the eyes compared to OEM yellowish bulb as we need to strain our eyes more.

Dun kena tipu ah phythia.. That profile his gf wan doh.gif

Ur name is listed lah.. It's in my signature...

Bedding in is a process that's done to grind the outermost layer of the brake pads so that it can provide friction.

RS pads are good pads, but u can only feel the difference if u really F&F a lot wor.. U wan? laugh.gif But also quite useful & safe pads lah..

My hubby said my brake not so good...that's why he said better change. Since unread somewhere here stating that the m-line brake pads aren't good.

What say the sifus here..what's your advice
*
Ok, here's one advice coming from a RS 550'C user.

This brake pad is made for high speed, high temperature & high friction braking. It's more like semi-racing pads already. It provides braking force that's quite strong actually, and it can last for 1 to 1 & 1/2 year depending on how u drive. If u're really interested in the brake pads, I suggest u go for it. But u must also be careful & be patient while bedding in the brake pads. Need around 2-3 days to a week to bed in, again depending on how u drive and how often u brake.

Regarding how to bed in, I'll teach u all when I deliver the brake pads.

Good pads, but bedding in seems to be the only issue.

*
Haha... Common question. The answer is no, it wont affect any part of ur warranty as it's wear & tear item. Any wear & tear item that's on ur car is not covered by warranty. E.g; brake pads, tyres, spark plugs, air filter, etc.
