i did a google search and it gets nice review. based on what you said it exceed my expectation on loudness. although it lack built in battery.

You actually can do a little mod, without harming the whole set of speaker by getting a battery which same as the adapter output voltage, wires and a plug to supply power for that speaker.

I haven't tried it on games.

The bass is very good and the sound is clear. If it works for music it should work for games. At least that's the case for any speakers I've ever used. I know games sound different to music, which are different to films, but I'm not too picky.

So, now I want another set for home. But I don't think I can pay RM900, and I wouldn't get an RM600 second hand one. A new one is always better.

Anyone can recommend some powerful speakers which are decently priced (nothing over RM500-600)?

Looking for PC audio for music, tv and films, you know what I mean. Externally powered of course.

Not too weak like JBL creatures. I mean those things may look nice too but at their price (not exactly sure but I'm guessing RM400+, possible RM500+) they aren't powerful enough.
*
Would you mind have a look on Edifier 2.0 speakers? R1600T Plus, R1900TIII, R2000 or the newer model R2500?
I think it should be powerful enough at your listening level, simply crank up to high volume on a speaker will lead to distorted sound.

E3100 and M1380 got any difference a? Hehe . Can any pro guide me ? tongue.gif
*
- E3100 has tweeter that good on playing trebles, M1380 only got full range speakers, but that full range able to play at higher frequency also. It is up to you to decide which sound you like.

- Good thing on E3100 got bass and treble control, M1380 only got subwoofer volume control.

- M1380 has a wired volume control pod, E3100 has everything on subwoofer there.

- M1380 has its satellites facing up at certain angle to ensure sound will direct to your ear when it is setup on table height. E3100 only face forward, to get best experience you need stand to position it to your ear level.

There's always a limit to how well a full range drivers can reproduce high frequencies. Any simple test can demonstrate that. That's why tweeters are prefered. cool.gif
You're right, a speaker that has tweeter is better. M1380 has other good features, it is up to the user to decide which to go.

It doesn't really matter. Both will do fine. I was thinking of Edifier m1250 but I was wondering anything smaller than that but produce quality sound? Is Edifier m1250 good enough or are there better ones?

How about Edifier MP250 Sound To Go?

ya r101v not really space consuming, one of my main concern
so probably both model provide more or less the same sound quality right?
*
To me I'll take M1360, the sound quality to me is like a big leap ahead from R101V. And not to forget about the volume control convenience too.

Hi, can someone recommend me "half" a speaker set? tongue.gif Currently have a Logitech Z-2300 and I think the sub is fantastic (brilliant for games and movies), but its satellites are somewhat lacking/harsh when it comes to music rclxub.gif

So I'm hoping to replace just the sats at less than RM200. Possible? I'm also considering a used Creative T20 atm hmm.gif
*
With RM200 would be better to get a sound card if you are using integrated sound card.
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi 5.1 Pro USB was around that price range. biggrin.gif

Good, the source is sufficient to play good sound, how about your speaker run in? You need to run in at loud volume but beware of burning the voice coil.

You can take off the dust cover for more clarity.

If you good on DIY then replace the stock wiring.

Music 50%
Movie 40%, occasional live sport streaming.
Games 10%, which mostly ps2, psp, wii emulator. psp especially have crappy quality audio.

I'm currently using some cheap sonic gear.

will an edifier R1600T plus be a good upgrade? I'm just worried crappy source like youtube will pierce my ears.

My sonic gear is great, as streaming live sports is bearable but the speaker is dying.
*
If you do not need lots of bass, then R1600T Plus is good. About piercing your ear, I think maybe will but you can lower down the treble volume to reduce it...

Looking for great clarity in mid and high range. base doesn't need to be thumping, just presentable. Mostly will be on low volume. Wanna move on from a 2.1 system, as I always set the bass to mid low anyway.

I haven't got the time to test these speakers in their showroom but I narrowed down my choices to;
Edifier R1600T Plus. Main concern is, it might not fit my desk. Is it overkill for low volume playback?

Creative T20. Main concern is, it's more expensive than the R1600T.

Creative T10. If I'm feeling cheapskate.
*
R1600T Plus to me is better than Creative T20 and T10 overall, but for space problem Creative T20 and T10 might be a good solution.
You can check out the dimension and see whether it fits your table or not.

R1600T Plus does not have low bass to fill up the music, the mid and high are great at that budget. Normal listening is enough with low and moderate volume, it can't blast at all.

How far your budget can go?

budget is as far as the R1600T Plus can go. well i guess the R1900T must be really special before i'll fork out that extra 100.
i know it can't do low bass, but if it can deliver what a cheapo 2.1 can, i'll be happy.
*
R1900TIII is good, the volume pot at the back depend on you whether had convenient problem or not. At R1900TIII range, there are R2500 too. You can try listen the demo set first before you decide.

What I can say is when you get 2.0 and compare to 2.1 around that price range of R1600T Plus, normally you trade mid with low bass.

Will I be getting night and day difference in terms of SQ if I compare the Edifier range (R1900T3, R2000T) against more expensive ones like M-Audio AV40 or even KRK Rokit 5?

Don't wanna spend double or even triple the amount maybe and ending up the Edifier could deliver comparable or almost equal results..

Is there anywhere I can demo the M-Audios or KRKs first before making a decision?

Thanks!
*
You can't simply put true studio monitor versus a multimedia speaker with studio monitor design. But Edifier could deliver its best at that price range, can't expect much more from it.

You can try look around those studio equipment shop for M-Audio and KRK speakers.

finally got the R1600T plus.
50-60Hz bass is thin to non existent.
a little bumb in my realtek equalizer fixes this and it copes well.
playing music, it's better than HCS2330 and every other sonic gear i tried.
i would not recommend this speaker unless you have software equalizer available though.

watching videos is a mixed bag kind of experience.
i really do miss the muddy bass of a subwoofer under my table.
mainly because you expect speech comes out of the person's mouth and without any center speakers to balance it out, it sounds weird.
it mixes out ok when you sit further back though.
the bass is not deep enough for explosion booms.
s330 or c3 would be a better all rounder.

using the triangle formation, where the speakers are pointing at me does produce a better sound, but it is too directional. if i move a bit it will be out of balance. so i went full casual and point it straight out from the wall.

the tweeter gave me headaches after long sessions. kinda like when i use head or earphones. it's just me, i can't handle all this sound details. i am now hearing sounds that was never produced on my sonic gear.

you need the speakers close to the wall for better bass reflection.

the amp is great. you can only hear it hums if you press your ear real hard to the wood cabinet of the active speaker.
for music listening it's the best thing you can get for RM270.
add a cheap 2.1 speaker and map it as center speaker and you get a great 3.1 system for movies. haha, i used my sonic gear for this.
*
Give your speaker some run in, it always sound fatigue when it is new.
