Tried hostelworld.com for US and Europe. Good for low-end accomodation and dorms.

Tried agoda.com for Asia. No complaints. Just that the reward points are only valid for one year. I did not know that and missed the opportunity to use them. With China, you can make booking without paying deposit. Done that through a China hotel site, can't remember the name.

I doubt you can get 'cheapest rates' on any single site.

hostelworld is not cheap if you are traveling >2pax and only need a room. The sell by per pax instead of room.

Yup, point system is true. I've booked with Agoda numerous times with no problem at all. The points can be used to be like a rebate to pay off for your next booking if got enough points.

You can also try www.wotif.com.au or www.lastminute.com. Both are reliable websites.

Usually, I try to check the hotel's website if they have any special promotions and will it be cheaper than the ones booked on the 3rd party website.

Also, at times, the hotel will only charge you upon check out (if book directly with the hotel) rather than having to pay in advance.

www.pyotravel.com
www.expedia.com
www.orbitz.com
www.hotelclub.com
www.hoteltravel.com

I have also checked out www.booking.com and found it always more expensive than all the sites listed above. Anyway, i am going to Taipei next month and Hong Kong in mid-February. I booked a room at Park Taipei Hotel via Expedia for US$405.80 for 4 nights and Harbour Grand Hong Kong for only US$430.56 for 4 nights via HotelTravel.

Hey,

Just a note, if you call the hotels in taipei directly, they usually give a discount of 20% to 30%. I think their standard procedure.

Have been booking hotels this way for my GM for all his Taipei trips.

Hi, I was searching for online room reservation sites to look for hotel at Hat Yai (Sep) & Jakarta (July) but got the info that some rooms are unavailable, I'm not sure it means Fully Booked or not yet open for reservation.

Can you please recommend me some reliable Online Room Reservation sites that I can check other hotels' status?

I would like to comment that there is no way to say which web site is cheapest. Eg, in my recent trip to Hong Kong & Macau, I booked all 3 hotels from 3 different web sites. There are times eventhough I noticed booking.com is usually on the highside but I still managed to get a good bargain. Prices can be seen at http://gblog.gpros.net

www.agoda.com for Asia hotels.

www.expedia.com for my stays in Europe. www.lastminute.com may have some bargains and 'secret' hotels, but the selection isn't as good as expedia or hotels.com .. my friends have no problem booking with www.booking.com

Me have same exp, the hotel said they never received anything for my booking. But I showed them the confirmation booking form. They only told me if i have the form, definitely have room for me even if their record doesnt show.
I asked them the same question as well, what if the rooms are full? Sadly both hotel operator & Agoda cant answer me wink.gif

Hi guys,

I planned to make a reservation in one of the hotel, however their website does not have any online booking procedures. So I have to send my reservation inquiry through email. I received their response few days later, and they were asking for my credit card details to confirm the booking.

As much as I hesitated to do, I did provide them some information mainly the 16 digit, validity and name, however I did not give any security pin code.
Will this be okay? Now, I'm feeling a little bit worry though doh.gif

I'm just wondering whether anyone have any similar experience? Can such method be trusted? I understand it is unsafe to do this via email (or even phone) and the risk is there, but would like to hear your feedback. Any comments are welcome.

Thanks!

Normally they will using your CC to hold the booking in advance.

If u didnt give your security pin, then its fine. just the name, number will do.

If u really wanted for the room, other else u can request to do a deposit via bank transfer if outstation and within msia just bank in to them.

Is it better to book directly through hotel website or through booking.com or agoda.com? Prices are about the same.

If prices are the same, I usually book directly with the hotel. Especially if the hotel can communicate in English. Or else I'll book thru booking sites but will still email them to double confirm the booking before I leave for my trip.

if both more or less are the same price, better book with hotel directly, safer that way
there are cases of booking thru 3rd party website, paid, but hotel don't have the booking.
if book thru a 3rd party website, always double confirm with the hotel about your booking.

When is your trip? Soon or are you booking well in advance? If it is soon, then just book directly with the hotel.

I usually book my room well in advance so I prefer booking.com because most of the time, they do not require a full payment or even a deposit. I prefer to pay only upon check-in as I do not like to deal with refunds if there are any changes to my plans.

If the hotel accept email reservations without any payments, then I'll do that too. I only go to Agoda.com as my last resort (coz they require full payment). I also use hostelworld.com and hostelbookers.com frequently.

No matter who you book it, always follow up the reservation with an email or a phone call for confirmation. smile.gif

As I said earlier, agoda is not the best deal.. If you search and find booking.com better, do use them smile.gif Sometime, agoda is cheaper but sometime booking.com or even hotel.com.. you really have to try each one & check-out. I used agoda, asiarooms, booking.com, hotel.com, and locally cuti.com.my and for Thailand- sawaddee
