hi guys, i need help with my q5 II firemware update. after it update it can't detect my 2TB HDD anymore. previously it can be detected. any ideas?

Same file system on the HD as last time? Perhaps the external HD wasn't dismounted properly and needs a disk check. Use a PC.. Last resort, backup contents on the HD & reformat. All still fails, then redo the firmware update on the box & or factory reset..

Hi,

I already have and still using 3x HiMedia player. The latest being Q6ii. But disappointedly, the Q6ii is lagging for playing back H265 contents at Full HD. It also failed to playback simple 4k video that recorded from my Samsung Note.

Thus now I am looking for a new player that can fulfill my requirement;

Mandatory
======
Able to playback 4k MP4 smoothly from Samsung Note.
Able to playback H265 contents smoothly at Full HD.
Must have digital coaxis output.
Capable to output at 4k / HDMI 2

Optional
=====
Need RJ45 gigabit LAN connection
Able to playback Canon dSLR recorded video at Full HD smoothly
Able to decode Dolby HD? Maybe impossible...  hmm.gif
If no Wifi and no optical output even better... Those are hopeless.  shakehead.gif

Questions
======
Which Bluetooth USB adapter is supported for the player? How about Q6ii?  notworthy.gif
*
Just read a few pages back, few suggestions that meet your mandatory & optional requirements... Bluetooth USB adapter? Most boxes if not all, come with Bluetooth hardware installed. Difference would be what version.

So any suggestion to my requirement? Q5iii?  hmm.gif

I see... Here you go.... CSR USB Bluetooth Dongle. Alternatively, Lelong & Lazada. Take your pick.

QUOTE(chanhin @ Dec 28 2015, 11:44 PM)
any idea which one is faster? Example, if I have H265 4k contents, which one will lag less? Q5iii or H8?  hmm.gif
*
IMO, the HiMedia H8 Octa Core with 2GB RAM & 16GB ROM should perform better, based on specs. However, this is just my opinion since I don't and haven't used the device myself. Not a guarantee it'll play all HEVC files smoothly.

Anyone else is using Q16?
Do you encounter overheat for it?

I realize that it the box itself is very hot when I on it.
After few hours, ( 3 to 5hours) the heat even transfer to the usb of the connected HardDisk/ Mouse....

How hot is hot? --> It's hot till you cannot hold the media box.

Seems scary har...

No box should be that hot.. shocking.gif

out of curiosity, i just tried netflix on my q16.

.. easy to register and get working
.. easy to use
.. smooth, no buffering
.. eng and other subs
.. limited selection
.. not all tv episodes are as up-to-date as u like
.. at best 720p (for ultra hd option), close to hypptv's 1080i

1st month free, try it!

get it at playstore.

should work on all himedia boxes.
*
Netflix's business model doesn't deal with up to date tv shows because they mostly purchase rights to the entire season and not individual episodes as they are released. One can't properly binge watch if one has to keep waiting for episodes. Playing on himedia or the TV app? Cuz if the box, then you'd be stuck with 480p to just under 720p while the TV applies upscaling, which in most cases, it'll still look poor. If using the native TV app on a Netflix approved TV & just getting 720p for content that is available at 1080p or 4K resolution? Then you need to look at TM. Hey, under Unifi's 30Mbps plan & the TV has Netflix 4K support? Try streaming Daredevil or House of Cards.. Both r certified 4K content.

checked up and played with it a bit more...

netflix is not available on my tv app selection. i just got it from android playstore.
during the sign up, u r to choose - basic (sd), std (hd) or premium (ultra hd) - diff prices.

since it's just a free trial, i opted for uhd to see if how it comes out on my sharp uhdtv.

house of cards is not there but daredevil is. there is nothing with 4K displayed!
after reading this, i start to doubt i will get 4kUHD.
https://help.netflix.com/en/node/13444

.. no 4k content label displayed on local netflix.
.. if direct on tv, only certain models support it; sharp ub and ud series support it but my ue series not listed.
.. if using other devices, only a few support it.
.. BUT... i will wait a few hours to see if anything changes after changign to "high" instead of auto: To select a setting that works best for your Internet plan, navigate to the Your Account page and select Playback settings in the Your Profile section. It can take up to 8 hours for these changes to take effect.
lastly, the content is POOR. there are only 40 tv shows in the selection. rolleyes.gif
*
Netflix has strict criteria for supported devices for 1080p & 4K. There's actually a list of supported devices & network requirements. So if you purchase the UHD package, you'll only see its full benefits on the right device with sufficient Internet. Otherwise it'd be a waste of cash. Take for instance, my Samsung Smart TV natively supports 1080p with HD Audio & the app has no issue ramping up from SD to full HD. Purchasing the full HD package is appropriate, but paying for 4K when my device can't handle it, Netflix won't send 4K content to it.. To save bandwidth & provide a smoother experience. Titles such as House of Cards, Daredevils, Orange is the New Black, etc are available for streaming in 4K.

Happens to everyone.. You have to remember that most apps are designed for mobile phones & tablets, all of which have touchscreens.. Not remotes. You'll have to get an external keyboard and mouse/TouchPad combo.

yep, i think i understand now.

1. smart tv's that support it like yrs will be ok. my new, 4k, uhdtv is probably too new, too good that it won't support it!! laugh.gif

2. my android alto 4k rated is not on netflix device list, so, no 4k material will show up in the content.

no intention to continue.

just free trial to test my equipment, learn something.

i stuff i get from other apps are just as good if not better and newer than what i get from netflix, so no use to me.
do you know...

for the 4k material in netflix, what audio do u get? 5.1 dd/dts?

trying to figure out what broadband speed will be required to stream 4K dd/dts and then 4K dtshdma/truehd... biggrin.gif
*
1 & 2.. Exactly... Even if the device can handle it, as long as Netflix didn't approve it, there'll be limited support (unless one is savvy enough to fool Netflix's servers).... Yeah, for most of us who are willing & know how to source even the latest content from alternative sources, Netflix is pretty much redundant. Netflix recommends a minimum of 25Mbps (stable speed) to stream 4K. Naturally, to ensure smooth streaming, one needs more than the recommendation. Sound wise, you'd get at least DD5.1. That's what I get with 1080p. I'm unsure & don't think they'd stream DTSHDMA/TrueHD.

no, there is no "global" repository from manufacturer.

there used to be one site (in chinese) that has some firmwares but no more i think - no update, malware...

maybe they still exist but accessible only by their distributors and agents.

keep in mind there have been numerous models, some meant for internal china, some meant for int'l markets.

some sellers keep repos and other things on their own - u can approach them.
*
If I might ask, why doesnt HiMedia at least offer & maintain a repo containing important files like firmwares, etc with direct downloads access for the average product user? It's an obvious choice and a bad one at that... IMO.

Makes sense... Particularly the no time/motivation to continously offer decent after sales support on products with little profit margin.. They better wake up before it's too late. As you mentioned, it's China, Android & no shortage of manufacturing factories.

QUOTE(nicety @ Jan 19 2016, 12:32 AM)
The key reason is Himedia do not have good English speaking/writing engineer, they merely depend on oversea re-seller to support oversea customers. It is up to the re-seller to maintain the firmware repo.

Similarly, MINIX do not have enough good English speaking engineer in HK and China, they are depend on oversea re-seller to moderate the MINIX forum as well.
*
It's not just hiring English speaking employees.. Based on what I've gathered over the months, HiMedia also lacks a dedicated Chinese forum or support team. I mean, there's always Google translate for the English folks (works somewhat)... So I don't think it's a language thing.. Resellers can only do so much.. The Minix team have been decent so far & yeah, some of the forum mods were "outsourced". So at least, they've got that right...

I am still new in this and trying to understand all this android tv box especially himedia. Was totally confused 2 month ago when trying to understand why it is as good as my HTPC if not better. After spending some time with it I think I got hang of it but not all. I think I would like to learn more and hopefully fully utilized its full potential.

I just bought a soundbar last sat and trying to connect it to my Q16 and see how it goes.

Nice.. It's a gradual process & one that hopefully gets better while meeting your requirements.. thumbup.gif

this is their repo.
http://www.himediatech.com/support.htm

but i dont know where to find the changelog.
own the late models Q3, unable to install new Kodi Jarvis, otherwise it will freeze and all.
have to reset and revert back to stock Kodi Helix.

i hate preinstalled software that cannot be updated.
*
Thanks for the link, it'll help some... Is your Q3 rooted or can it? You could then make a backup of the pre-installed version before removing and installing the latest KODI. Doing this still doesn't guarantee the compatibility issue will be resolved.. Worth a shot though.

well, i dont know if the new firmware comes with preinstalled newer Kodi version.
the late Kodi Helix is smooth, but the stock repo still pointed to Kodi Helix.
in newer Kodi version as Jarvis or Isengard can find the Food Network HD addon.
*
That's why I asked if the box is rooted or can be rooted... If so, then you can backup the current app, uninstall it, then install the latest KODI version.. If it runs well, then you keep it, else remove and reinstall the previously backed up KODI.

Yes, it appears the Food Network HD Addon can only be viewed from the latest KODI version.

yeah, but the main issue is, i'm stuck with the preinstalled Helix.
i try to google around, but I dont know how to remove the preinstalled one.
No matter how I delete, uninstall, clear data, and everything, after reboot, the preinstalled Kodi will still be there.
i believe this device already rooted, 4.2.2.

puzzling me on how to delete this preinstalled kodi on unrooted box.
i like Jarvis, fast and the player quite reliable.
on helix, sometimes i will lose connection.
have to exit and reopen again.  laugh.gif
not able to locate it as its hidden i guess.

Well, its kinda impossible to remove system apps without first rooting the firmware. That's pretty much the main reason we root devices... Gain finer controls, etc... I've done some searching around and can't seem to find any English site detailing a safe install or rooting process. Like you reported... Sorry, in the spirit of progress, might be time for a hardware upgrade.

P.S. For the next box, best to stick to well documented & supported boxes, that can be rooted and unrooted at will. Nothing less.

Did stumble across that site and downloaded the first file... The downloaded file i got was just 1.41MB... A quick Bitdefender and Malwarebytes scan later for viruses and malware shows the file's clean.. But I expect full firmware' to be bigger. So I'm guessing this is simply a zip file containing SuperSU and rooting parameters.. That's quite normal in certain cases... So try it and let's see how it goes.

Edit: Did Food Network's Addon work on the Helix?

QUOTE(AVFAN @ Mar 7 2016, 11:20 PM)
actually, why u need to root?

yr q3 cannot be so different from the rest.

not that diff to change kodi versions.

or u want to do something else?
*
I believe he mentioned something earlier about compatibility issues when he tries to install Jarvis over the Helix version... Says, he gets freezes, etc and is forced to revert to the pre-installed KODI Helix.. I'm perplexed myself too... Makes me wonder why HiMedia...?... chose to make the official KODI a system app rather than a user-replaceable one as normal.
