the online update for 1.0.6 - is it prompting u or u found it available in settings->system->upgrade?

u mean playback media file via usb using media center?

the loud sound always happen at the same spot of the movie if u play again and again?

can check the sound settings... hdmi, spdif see if set correct for yr sound system

i m a user... the reason i asked u those questions was to minimise potential mistakes leading to havoc!
i m not sure but i think q6ii is the same as q5ii except for a couple of things, so i will share my exp based on q5ii with both emmc and non-emmc.
unless i am outdated, 106 eng firmware for non-emmc models isn't available yet, available for emmc models only.
this is impt becos there is a chance that if you do update online, you will get 1.0.6 china version, which is quite different from the eng (int'l) version.
anyway, u can try and then see wat happens. if dissatisfied, you can restore with the 1.0.5 - u should hv a copy with you.

if the 106 is china version, you may see some apps erased, so it is surely advisable to get a backup of all yr user apps apks before u update.
yr ip address, dns settings may all be changed too, based my my experience, so u may want to write all that down beforehand.
playstore will not be there as google is banned in china. youtube should be there and should work.
also, you may get xbmc replaced by a himedia customised 12.2 version, maybe not, i can't be sure as i hv seen some weird things before.

if the 1.0.6 is eng version, it should come with customised xbmc 12.2 which works well w/o crashing, 720-1080 files play smooth but some addons will not work like they do in 12.3.
you may choose to reinstall 12.3 later but do try it out first.
it will have mangotv, playstore, youtube as well.
u can see why 1.0.6 eng version is a better one.
but you may find something strange about the new homepage/launcher - some apps not displayed.
you may think they are gone but they are actually still there, just hidden, need a second launcher to bring them up.

i do not know if there are easier or more elegant ways but this is my way….

firstly, u need es file explorer to manually copy and paste files. file manager can’t do that as some files are hidden. need mouse for the operation:
.. get and install es file explorer app from playstore (think can downld the apk from website with pc too)
.. es file explorer, go to tools, click on “show hidden files”
.. go to apps manager, u will see all the user apps
.. click and press/hold one app to highlight it
…see screen bottom, look for copy:
1. if there, u can tick all the rest and click copy. then click on sda1 (usb drive ready) and paste there, whatever yr folder name is.
2. If copy not there, highlight the app u want, click on backup. this will send the copy to the backups folder in sdcard. copy yr apps one by one. then go to local->sdcard->backups, you see apps folder – check inside to see if all user apps there. then return to apps, copy and paste whole folder into yr usb drive.
if u ever lose any of those apps, use file manager to install the apk(s) back one by one.

above is to copy and save user apps only, incl xbmc. xbmc settings, addons, userdata need to saved separately:
.. go to sdcard/Android/data/org.xbmc.xbmc, copy n paste folder org.xbmc.xbmc onto usb drive.
.. when firmware update complete, check xbmc in order, everything there. If settings/addons/userdata gone, copy n paste the org.xbmc.xbmc folder onto the folder data, overwrite existing empty folder if any.

i wudn't be able to comment on nas and gigabit network...

but i can share...
if the same noise comes at same spot everytime, i wud suspect the file is corrupted.
i have experienced disturbances like this on one player and not on another.
some players have decoders superior than others.
or it could be bad sectors in yr drive.
i just had one big file behaving like that - ok on one player, not on another. ok on one drive, not on another.
to be complete, clean up the drive, get another version of the file, problem was solved.

yes, q5ii will work, i tried. no idea about the other models.

i think all the current emmc models will work for astroonthego n xbmc incl q5ii, q6ii, q16.
best u confirm with seller before buying.

if u r not getting hd smoothly on some of the channels, try this...

at yr settings, ethernet or wifi, whichever one u r using, change dns1 to 1.2.4.8

works perfectly now, not sure how long it will stay valid.

trouble is it may not be good for utube n xbmc.

so....before change, better to record yr old dns to revert back if it doesn't work!

if u wish, u can try to get yr hands on firmware 1.0.6 emmc eng version meant for use outside china. dunno if it will work in china but this wil will give u playstore, works gud for me.

but it comes with xbmc 12.2 which u may not like.

has all the usual chinese stuff in mango tv, hitv.

i dun think u can add or subtract anything in mangotv or hitv.

own channels, possible in xbmc... can read that thread, something of that sort was recently discussed.

somebody just bumped the thread, u shud see it.

not too far back, discussion on how to make yr own xml to get tv7,8,9, etc... If these r wat u want....

others like natgeo, bloomberg, u shud check out CloudTV. english stuff, xbmc is already the best, foc.

afaik, 106 non-emmc eng is still not available. so, gotta wait...

i never tried downgrading firmware from 106 to say 105 or 104, but think it is possible to restore any firmware stored in yr usb drive. only thing is restore will clean out everything, u need to put everything back again incl all apps and settings.

for my non-emmc unit which is now on 106 china version, i installed nova launcher, change default orig launcher to nova which looks much like a pc desktop. with that, all the other apps widgets can be set up there too. but can't get playstore back as the firmware will not accept any google/playstore apk(s). i dun use playstore much as my use is mainly on xbmc, mangotv, hitv, youtube and browser.

note... since there is no playstore, all apps apks need to obtained from another source - via pc (be sure to get right android apks) or copy from somebody. typically, these apks are at least a few mb in size, cannot move by email. and that is why it is impt to save yr user apps on ext usb drive, in case u need to put them back one by one - see my post #854 in this thread.

obviously, the easiest thing to do is to take the unit back to the seller's shop and get the guy(s) there to fix it.

just had a look, seems ok. tried any of them, works good?
some of them are also found in hitv and histore.
they all pretty much offer the same thing...
can expect not all of them work well outside china.
my experience - youku never works. pptv, ppstv and vqq work fine.

i actually find mangotv the best - newer stuff, live tv, well organised, big library.
not everything works but good enough, incl hd stuff.
i just watched a new 6-episode documentary called "tastes of beijing" in hd, excellent.

this is easily be done if yr q6ii and ipad are both connected to same wifi.
when playing a video, look for the icon that is a rectangle with a triangle in it on yr ipad screen. touch it to activate the q6 as proposed.
that's all, nothing more. it's built in, no need any xshare watever.

personally, i dun find this feature useful since whatever the ipad can get, the q6 can get too, so why bother?
ok... maybe gud if u take lots of photos and videos with ipad...

no need to do that - u can install the astroonthego app on q6! the app is in playstore.

this machine comes with plenty of chinese and some korean stuff, from the fimware/pre-installed apps... but... with chinese subs only.

eng subs for chinese and korean stuff are only done by western parties, some can be found in xbmc apps, e.g. azdrama but is limited. moreover, xbmc is not something simple - need time and effort to get it to work, pls read:

if one has no idea what an androidtv box can and cannot do, one should not simply buy one even if a seller say, "yes, got korean eng sub stuff". best to read up first...

my experience... hiplayer 12.2 or xbmc 12.3 with hiplayer's modified advancedsettings.xml added do fine, good.

but all that is probably moot since u got gotham 13.1 working good!

note the crashing can happen due to too low/unstable broadband speed or the link is simply bad.

i get a crash occasionally with unifi 10mbps speed.

i just tried gotham 13.1 that way, and yes... it seems to work good. tested a few links, seems stable. 720/1080 works w/o lagging. only problem i found was if you set audio to passthru, the tv audio (hdmi to tv) will crack while digital audio output to (my old non-hdmi) avr gets dd/dts. tv audio won't crack if set passthru to off but that way, avr gets analogue audio. not a big problem but hiplayer 12.2 did not have this issue. not an issue i believe if hdmi-avr-tv.

i checked the xbmc.org folder and there is no advancedsettings.xml file. looks like gotham works a little differently from frodo. will need to read up on gotham soon...

anyone having installed 1.0.7 eng whether emmc or non-emmc, kindly comment on what's new.

hmm... i tried both 720 and 1080 links, no lag...

ff... havent tried but when i use the mouse to click forward, ok also - this is good, hiplayer 12.2 can't do that for 720/1080, can only do for sd links.


btw, do you mean playback/stream xbmc links or like some peopl to do - playback media files from usb with xbmc??
