The device is generic, not androidtv.
The playstore will offer generic android apps, not androidtv apps.

The info says 5.1 and then 7.1... so, which one is it?
Go to settings to check android, kernel and build.
*
Ad says Android V5.1 throughout the ad... The 7.1 refers to audio channels.. biggrin.gif

Ah thanks, I didnt know about the Kodi sponsor thing.

All right I'll look into U9H XD
*
Yup.. If Kodi is primary and want future-proofing.. Definitely get the Minix Neo U9-H instead... Very high Kodi compatibility..

Yes, no point viewing endless Youtubes and reviews about air remotes when the best combo is actually the Original Remote + a Wireless mouse.
*
I disagree... If HiMedia came up with a perfectly compatible airmouse + remote + keyboard combo.. There shouldn't be any issues.. Been using the Minix Neo A2 Lite with Minix devices.. No hiccups and best of all, never have to pull out the original IR only remote.. Everything works with it.. Full shutdown, cold boot up, standby and resume.. All works... The Neo A2/A3 are improved versions..

I always mention this, with such devices, hardware - software compatibility is always key and who knows how best to tap into the Q10Pro than the folks at HiMedia themselves..

The HDMI is the best connection link between media player and TV now ? Is there a standard for fibre between TV and media player ? Is there a need for it in the first place ?
*
Yup... What AVFAN says... Basically, you are limited by the weakest device... HDMI offers the best connection and compatibility.. And if you had to ask, you probably don't need HDMI 2.1 tongue.gif

Yes indeed.
I read somewhere Q10Pro standby mode isn't working? How do I differentiate standby mode and off mode?
*
I've read there's no standby mode. Though it could have been enabled in a later firmware. AVFAN can confirm its availability on the latest firmware.

I do not know what this standby mode is! biggrin.gif

Standby... meaning main power on, box is off, red indicator light on?
Or like windows, put to sleep?

Afaik, himedia boxes all dun hv sleep function.
What for? Waste power?!
Boot up time is like 20-25 secs.
Faster than my bluray disc player or hyppbox!
*
Yup, more like a PC going into sleep mode. By the push of a button, sleep/wake up is near-instant (same on the Neo U1). Beats waiting 20 seconds from cold boot. Uses significantly wayyyy less power than that refrigerator of yours in the corner running 24/7. tongue.gif

does Himedia have native Netflix apps? can Himedia play youtube 4k with adroid apps or have native app? or any streaming native app that Himedia have? such Hulu
*
When you say "Native", do you mean like exclusive to HiMedia alone or what? As for Netflix, you'll be limited to 480p and no DD sound cuz it's not a Netflix certified device. I'm unsure about 4K YouTube and Hulu and the likes of it.. Are independent apps & maintained by their own devs. Subscription required.

TQ for your advice. You just cannot have everything in 1 box. Any sifu knows if there would be newer version of Q10 Pro launching soon as this box is > 1 year?

Anyone has any idea if there is modded astro go /hyppwhere apk that can be installed in Q10 Pro?
*
Nope, doubt a successor will be released soon. AFAIK, no modded AOTG/Hypptv app available in the wild.

IMO, I'd go with the U9-H.. No arguments..

QUOTE(Ivan_T @ Sep 8 2017, 06:04 PM)
Actually I'm also looking at these 2 boxes and incline towards buying the Q10 Pro for the main reason that it will provide better picture and audio quality.

In fact I still don't fully understand why Minix u9H cost so much higher than any other Android boxes that are using the same S912 chipset other than the good Wifi connection and maybe firmware support. Wonder how is Himedia A5 which is also using the same chipset but cheaper.
*
Branding..Reputation.. Same reasons why the likes of Samsung or Apple can charge a premium for their devices.. Theirs is built to function well and last.

My Q16 Quad were extremely hot despite in standby mode for few hours. It's so hot too a point I can't switch ON hence now I've turn off and unplug it.

What could be wrong? Should it be time to reset to factory and install all over again?

Meanwhile am testing another Sunvell T95M for a friend.
*
Probably a rogue app.. Switch it back on and monitor temp.. See how.

Those of u with Q5pro do u have any issues streaming torrent movies on kodi? Contemplating btw the Q5 & Q10, I find that the Q10pro is a little overkill for my usage.

Thanks a lot of this. I just thought that since Q10 pro uses Android 7.1 it's more future proof. I mainly use Kodi though and now my Mibox mini is really starting to slow down. I don't have many apps installed, just the basic stuff.

Would the Octacore on the H8+ mean it's faster in performance than Q10pro ie. no slowdowns in launching apps, less lag, etc.?
*
The Q10 Pro is more future proof.. Since your primary need is Kodi, must stay away from rockchip devices.. Kodi and Rockchip devices at the moment don't mix. Also, HiMedia devices and Kodi, expect hiccups.. Get a Minix instead. Very Kodi friendly.

Hmmm, I never considered their native players. I use Kodi and all its video add ons to stream from the web. Would the native player be able to do that?

And there are others in my family that would need to stream HK and china movies and series. They mainly use Qstation for that.
*
As pointed out, the native player is good. You just won't get the ease and UI that Kodi offers.

QUOTE(-oc-gassa @ Oct 9 2017, 07:00 PM)
for me Native player is a must.. the more native app the better..

if just purpose of watching drama/movie normal android box is enuf.. but then if have good TV and sound system.. then for sure u have good source of movie/drama (bluray)... for instance I love to watch Netfilx 4K via native app compare to Iflix in media box..since the quality differ a lot in term  of visual and audio...

still.. everyone has the own taste in enjoying their favorite movie/drama biggrin.gif
*
Yep, With the likes of Netflix, the Smart TV app should offer FHD or UHD (+HDR).. One won't get such on external media devices unless certified by Netflix.

I had that feeling when I upgraded from my Himedia HD910B to a Minix U1. There was no proper native player and I had to download MX Player, VLC and none of them played my files properly. Luckily, Kodi saved the day.
Those days Sigma & Realtek chips focused on picture quality and making sure most file formats & codecs worked. Well, nowadays its about being an all-rounder.

XBMC for Minix is the native player. smile.gif

Cannot... Emo-mental contract with current vehicle is almost up. I could probably stretch it about a year tops. With every high cost purchase I always have a certain amount of years I expect to use it before considering new tech.. Tech always gets better each year, so it's buy and close eyes and ears to talk about new tech afterwards. Still have at least 2 years before I give out or move the current TV, HT, etc to the bedroom and replace with shiny new toys.. Gotta to have a proper AVR + 12TB NAS Storage this time.. brows.gif.. Car budget will bust if I splurge on that now. sweat.gif

Oled prices are not gonna come down by much anytime soon. Its still worth it to get it now. I am planning to jump in next year when the new model from LG comes in.
*
Sadly, you may be right.. No worries.. I've got some time.. Just don't want to be an early adopter and pay super premium price for something better to come along and cheaper too.. Happened with current 1080p purchase.. Meh, water under the bridge.. biggrin.gif

AFAIK, Having to deal with the Kodi wrapper (piece of additional software to assist the Kodi app), potential crashes/hangs and audio passthrough issues.. I also vaguely remember some comment about loading srt files saved alongside the video file.

wrapper is only used if one INSIST on playback with kodi.

some do, some don't.

i don't. becos the native player is much faster.

kodi streams, no audio pass thru, just 2.0, still waiting on a fix.

that's all. everything else works fine with kodi.

i wouldn't call that a hiccup.

loading srt... i hv never seen this problem, whether kodi online subs or native player or with kodi+wrapper.
*
Hiccup, bug, ... semantics.. It's not a +ve feature.. All good.. That's why I kept quiet and tagged you in the first place, as you have the device and are familiar with Kodi too.. Can at your convenience see if the prior issues have been rectified or not..

I am quite new to this

My parents mainly used to watch live stream like 电视家 3.0 or some online movie app (电视猫,千寻)

I mainly use for kodi on hk drama

I saw some China website having 4K movie files to download. So now planning to use this tv box to play the 4K video file.

About the audio quality I am not really sure but I see my homer theatre has the 7.1 Dolby surround sound, so I hope can fully utilise it
