MF indicator? You mean the green dot? It has to stay lighted up indicating its in focus.

QUOTE(vearn27 @ Apr 24 2011, 12:36 PM)
The metering...

+ ..... | ..... -

To the left mean the photo is underexposed, to the right mean the photo is overexposed. Do we need to enable or disable the metering from the option? Because I'm using A mode on D7K, sometime it appears and sometime it doesn't. However, it seems to appear all the time in M mode? Which setting to always enable it? Please do correct me if I'm wrong unsure.gif
*
In A or P or S mode it is always metered to balance in the middle. The only time the meter appears is that the camera is not possible to balance it for you. Say for example you shoot in broad day light at f/1.4 and your shutter limit is only 1/8000s. The shutter cannot go any faster to compensate for the overexposure. Then the camera will display the metering.

Or when you use exposure compensation I think it might appear too... (don't really recall :S been using manual most of the time)

QUOTE(fcuk90 @ Apr 24 2011, 12:42 PM)
yeah . when it stay up mean it is focus?
*
Correct, as long as it is lit up meaning it is in focus.

You are asking why sometimes in A mode the metering appears and sometimes not right?

I need to double check... but if I remember correctly that is the reason.

Yes, can use 1 battery at a time only. Body or grip only also no problem. How long a battery can stay in body? As long as you want. LOL.

you devil!  brows.gif
anyway just back from BTS because parents come, i tried to poisoned my dad with D5100... but BTS dun have ...anyway just wan show new beginner body are easy to use compare to my D70s hehe...
D5100 can auto focus in video mode right?
my point to poison him compare to my D70s is...
1) dun have many buttons...all setting at menu there.
2) light weight, small body, better grip?
3) bigger view finder, nicer view finder, bigger coverage....dem i also wan to change body ...kena poison bek  doh.gif
4) bigger monitor, tilt screen
5) video mode, that's my point hehe... and ya i give him a good example... if use normal view cam, under bright sun light... LCD monitor is very hard to seen what you record so i tried to poison him with D5100 because got view finder if live view cannot use under strong light hehe  brows.gif
6) Price?
7) VR kit lens?

anything can add for this? wan poison him more hehe  brows.gif
because in before that he wan get a new camcorder, so when i saw D5100 release i think this is best chance to poison him this. hehe. (PS: he was nikon kaki before hehe)
*
1. It is a disadvantage and not an advantage.
2. I am not sure about this... but if compare D5100 and D90, the D90 has better grip.
3. Not sure on this point
4. Yes this is a selling point for D5100
5. Okay...
6. Hmm...
7. Well, your dad would just save the money and buy you the kit lens, no? tongue.gif

It was ok before in the camera cry.gif

Memory card is very important, what memory card are you using? Did you do a format in body before shooting? Its good to format to sure the FAT is okay.

Yeap, I was wondering why it sometime appear and sometime not nod.gif
If I remember correctly, the metering is positive on the left and negative on the right, thus

+ ..........|.......... -

Still left mean overexposed and right is underexposed?
Actually, I didn't get what you guys were talking about the blink blink thingy. Please enlighten me with it please?

So, it's still to the left mean overexposed and to the right mean underexposed?
*
The blink thingy referring to the focus indicator. Its a round icon in your viewfinder. When in focus it will light up.

QUOTE(weingseen @ Apr 24 2011, 08:05 PM)
Just wondering is this D7000 a good body to go and if it's to compare to a Canon body, which would it be?
In the body lineup, D7000 can consider as a mid end body?
I'm a Canon user so I'm not quite familiar with these, hope people could help me out.
*
D7000 -> 60D. But I would say that 60D is more aligned to a D5100... swivel LCD and no robust body (magnesium and weather sealing).

QUOTE(Str33tBoY @ Apr 24 2011, 09:10 PM)
Thx bro celciuz...
Normally u take d grip every session...? Or jz leave as it be wif d battery inside...?

Bro celciuz...
Will try my best to handle...
Coz it's reali different alot of weight compare to d90...
*
I leave the grip on body most of the time. 1 battery on the tray only.

d7000 should be in 7d category ?

7D is D300s category actually. But the D300s is kinda dated... but the D7000 doesn't have the semi pro body like the D300s although sensor wise is more advance.

usually what SS you all use for 35mm or 50mm prime ?
me using 1/80 sometime will blur, maybe last time rely to VR too much d .
*
I use 1/80s or 1/100s on my 85mm.

QUOTE(weingseen @ Apr 24 2011, 11:31 PM)
Hmm if I make it this way,  7D > D7000 > 60D, looks better eh?
I know it's kinda hard to justify a Nikon body of equivalent Canon, they're quite similar but not the same.

@Andy214, I guess you kinda got my question wrongly.  blush.gif
*
I would put it this way... D3x / 1Dsmk3 -> D3s/D3/1Dmk4 -> D700/5Dmk2 -> D300s/7D -> D7000 -> D90/60D/D5100

Actually that D7000 and D90 a bit harder to classify.. D90 is more like advanced entry.. the D7000 more like a 'lite version' of the semi pros...

Actually, this is more like personal opinion or personal classification; Just like a car, we get newer technology cars which is better in specs and so on, we may think it "should" be above this class, although it's actually belongs to this class.
D7000 specs are good, and due to the model numbering, it leads to many confusion or people to think which one it replaces.

As following the category, we can probably say it's among the best of it's class.
*
For me, I classify DSLR into 3 category.

Pro -> Integrated grip, single digits designation.. this one no confusion of course.

Semi Pro -> Optional battery grip, magnesium alloy body, weather seal, advance AF blablah... Eg, D700/D300s, from Canon its the 5Dmk2, 7D and 50D type..

Entry -> D3100, D5100, 1100D, 600D... only single dial... most items need to set from menu...

Now the D90/60D is more or less in similar range... dual commander dials... top LCD... sort of advance entry level..

The D7000 is the odd one out, with magnesium alloy body + weather sealing... its either the best among advance entry.. or just a 'lite' semi pro.

Better contrast compared to the f/1.8D? This one I not sure too haha... not much experience with the f/1.4D. Didn't like the lens cause I can't use it wide open >(

Yup, something like that, in a nutshell, I would say that the colors look flattering lar and pleasant to eyes without much of PP.

I'm not very technical with lenses, but having sharp focus wide open requires a good combo of lens and body, and also skill, right?
*
The most important is the lens itself. Then body is more for the focus hit rate, better AF system might hit say 9/10 not so good AF might hit maybe 6/10 or so.

I don't think its that issue. Its either OOF or the lens is just no good at f/2.8 sharpness (I doubt lah.. at f/2.8 most primes are acceptable).

I'm using 85mm on FF and also f/1.4, I think my DOF even more shallow?

His focus distance seems very close compared to yours, when focus so close, the DOF can be really shallow...

Camera Nikon D700
Exposure 0.01 sec (1/100)
Aperture f/2.8
Focal Length 85 mm
ISO Speed 1250
Subject Distance 1.12 m

I don't think he's that close in... 50mm on crop sensor is roughly the same as 85mm on FF.
