QUOTE(DocLem @ May 5 2011, 09:20 AM)
Hi guys, I am from the Philippines, and will be visiting HK in the following week. I apologize for posting in a Malaysian forum, but I've read a few threads here and it seems people are knowledgeable here about the HK retailers situation.

I've been trying to buy an Alienware m11x R3 for the past month, but it's too expensive to buy here in the Philippines from retail (super overpriced), and presently have no way to order from the US (corrupt post-office here in the Phils). I'm wondering if electronics retail shops sell the m11x R3 in HK? I'm particularly looking for this 11999 HKD model. Do you guys know the price range for this model in Broadway or any other shop? Thanks!
*
uhh, sorry bro, Broadway does not sell the alienware models by Dell anymore, they are only selling the XPS 17" with 3D there now....they used to sell the M15x there, but i think they took it down because of the new model by Dell....

If you are asking for any retailers selling alienware, i don't think there are any....so your best bet is to find a friend who is staying in HK, buy it online and send it over to his house...

Damn, that is tough...I know no one there in HK, will be going there for a vacation. It's so difficult to buy Alienware, they're not making it easy man. And I was hoping some retailers were gonna sell it.

EDIT: And I guess it's also a pipe dream to find sellers available for pick-up instead of delivery because will be staying there for only 5 days.
*
retailers doesn't do custom nameplates as well, so your best bet is still getting it online....plus, delivery for the alienware ranges from 2 weeks to longer....i dun mind offering my help, but you are only coming up to HK for 5 days...so i doubt that it'll be on time...

if you don't mind, i can help you check out Broadway today around Times Square and the one near Sogo....but i highly doubt that they are selling the Alienware M11x though, and mind you, retailers sell them at a higher price as well....

That would be awesome bro! If it ain't too much to ask, I'd really appreciate that. Because if HK won't be an option I'll be looking out for alternatives (like making friends with US people lol).
*
it's fine...besides, it's near my house anyway, within walking distance...i go there sometimes to check out new electronic stuff anyway...but honestly, i don't think you might get it in Broadway though....

It's still great so at least I can rule out Broadway as a possible source. I've heard from friends that they heard there's like a Dell or Alienware distributor in Tsim Sha Tsui? I dunno how true that is she may just be talking a load of bull, but whatever, I guess it won't hurt to try once I get there.
*
Well, i never heard of any distributors in TsT though....but you can check it out once ur here i guess?

well, i think Malaysia is trying to be tax-free in the electronics dept i guess....even Apple products are considered cheapest in the region if not mistaken.....

Hey bro, no sweat biggrin.gif You're doing me a huge favor already, thanks! Looking forward to some good news.

Damn, it's so frustrating for me here, I've been on Google scourging for solutions to this problem, and I can't find one to suit my needs short of having a trusted friend abroad who'll go home here to the Phils (which I presently don't have). This HK trip is my best chance.
*
haha, well, honestly, Dell's marketing strategy mostly focuses on using online selling and stuff, hence i think if you want to get it in retail shops...it's a little bit skeptical, and by the way, if you're getting the laptop in retail outlets, i think the specs are most probably not what might want....

Overheat issue?!....hmmm...is it advisable for me to get the cooler master pad then?....

Hey doc, I am at broadway now, I see the m11x sold here, it is priced at HKD12,999, specs are i7-640um 1.2Ghz, wideHD screen, 4GB DDR3 ram, 500GB HDD, 1GB geforce GT 335m

So yea, it's overpriced as I told you

hmmm, looked into Roccat, the Pyra seems perfect for the m11x biggrin.gif

but first I have to get my m11x first tongue.gif
*
Bro, i've checked out the laptop for you, the specs are above, it's the old model, i think Dell are trying to clear it by selling it to the retail, and Broadway is selling it at a higher price as well. I think it's better if you can order it online, or ask around here, i think there are people selling it, but no idea how it'll be sent over to phil though...wink.gif

QUOTE(9satan9 @ May 7 2011, 03:39 AM)
so for best specs im assuming 13k should be sufficient ?
god bless me it comes out asap ... im fed up of my acer laptop =.=
*
RM13K would prolly get a good spec, i think for a rough idea of how much the laptop will cost, you can check out other region's M18x price, or HK for the closest comparison i think, it's selling here in HK now.

QUOTE(hidz7 @ May 7 2011, 04:49 AM)

well, i think sometimes, it's the value for money that counts?....i have to budget myself to get the laptop....so now i'm on an installment plan for the laptop...xD

Haha.... too bad its not such a wise move over here... the only thing you'll attract here if you bring your AW to starbucks are thiefs  laugh.gif  laugh.gif
I have to admit that in Malaysia, Alieware's are rare to see than Apple, even the M11x which is more portable  hmm.gif
*
lol, yea, neither do i see them here in HK...it's mostly people with macbooks...lol....

QUOTE(PF T.J. @ May 7 2011, 04:03 PM)
True, but those who can buy a Mac, even the cheapest MBA11, could afford an M11x as well  laugh.gif
But then why would Apple fanboys appreciate Alienwares  sad.gif

i agree biggrin.gif

QUOTE(advocado @ May 7 2011, 04:08 PM)
Do you actually play serious games in starbucks, or just surfing net.

It's heavy & big right?
*
lol...nah, i doubt that i would actually bring that around town anyway...lol

QUOTE(PF T.J. @ May 7 2011, 04:15 PM)
Ya its heavier than most laptops of the same size haha, which probably explains why no one brings them to Starbucks (at least not here)....
I've never been to Starbucks haha so I'm in no place to comment  doh.gif
But I think those who go there would only surf the net, at least that's what I'd do...
Gaming on battery is not that fun
*
gaming on batt lasts 1 hour max i think....so either way, i doubt that anyone would actually bring that beast over to starbucks...lol...

Hey bro, thanks for your help! The good news is that it DOES exist in HK retail shops. I'm hoping I'll be able to find an R3 looking around the marketplace. How much more overpriced are the older models though? And are they R1s or R2s (I can't see where you place the specs biggrin.gif)?

I'm crossing my fingers I'm gonna find an R3 there...I found a few articles from blogs that some retail scores used to carry m11x models back in October 2010. I'm hoping it stays true up to now.
*
i did some walking around just now around WanChai, and there is this computer center beside the southern basketball court (Mtr exit A5, the left building once you've exit the station), there is a dell shop there, but yet again, they don't carry ex-stock there....but honestly, looking at the specs i just gave you, those are older specs...so don't expect much man....

So if you not really bringing it out may i know why choose expensive alienware instead of powerful desktop which you can keep upgrading them?

Also do you hook up your alienware like a desktop to LCD TV/Monitor, surround sound speakers, external keyboard & mouse etc? Coz it'd become more like Desktop already.
*
well, bringing out in a sense that i don't go out daily with my laptop, but my work requires me to fly around the world, and hence this is why i considered an AW....i need to look at CAD drawings, and sometimes, the file gets so big, that it lags my current laptop badly...i dun use the AW to game 100%, i can also use it for work....

haha, honestly, i feel that the M14x's spec ain't as good as the M15x....and the m15x sold here is using GTX460M....not 260M..xD

Take the Doc's Alienware with GTX260 for example, its still better than most of the mainstream mid-level GPUs we get in the market now  rclxms.gif
Iirc, they are upgradeable for the M15/17x, and probably the M18x too
