thanks for sharing CCM..

anyway have u seen iphone4 video recording before? if yes, how is this SGS2 compared to iPhone 4..

for me the best video recording is on iphone4 and nexus S - on latest android 2.3.3 (yeah, lower reso but constant 30fps at any light condition)..

and have u manage to test the GPS?

thanks again in advance

hopefully the SGS II won't disappoint me.

Nope, I will browse Iphone4 video later in youtube in HQ mode..
How do I perform a GPS test?
I just do normal GPS and search my location in google map..
quite fast also..
I own a Nexus S..the video quality isn't very high, but smooth and clear; )
*
for me the best way to test gps is by using it.

open google map (brut mod) > find my location (see how accurate it is) > then try to search any place > navigate > and see how fast the signal is locked..

there is gps software out there to test, that can shows how many satellites locked, error and etc.. but i dont care about it as long as everytime i open the google map navigation, it works.

haha it's so funny to read some of u guys comment..

if any of u ever read my comparison between Nexus S and Motorola Atrix in February.. my conclusion is, android is not all about hardware. software implementation / optimization is really important and Google proves it by showing how fast single core 1ghz Nexus S is..

still remember how wrong strategy had cost Intel when they were chasing for higher clock speed in Pentium 4, while AMD calmly optimized it's architecture in AMD Athlon / Barton 9 years ago?

yet lots of people keep craving about hardware alone.

if u're buying something without proper understanding in how it works, u will definitely and easily get frustrated. i've played with Desire HD, Nexus S, Atrix, Optimus 2x, and Incredible S and I don't expect much from SGS II. I don't expect it to be blazing fast or noticeably faster than the others phones i've tried.. summore I always know, touchwiz is nothing compared to Sense..

but, I do believe in what to expect from phone as good as SGS II. I believe there will be lots of developers using this phone.. it has great hardware, and now i have to count on the developers to fully utilized samsung open bootloader, enhance / tweak it's software and finally turn this phone into beast.

and honestly, any of my friends who asked me for phone recommendations.. i'll ask: u want something good out of the box but is restricted to it, or u want something that might not good as the other one, but u have freedom and chance to make it better..

so if u choose the 1st one, sadly to say... u do not belong in this section.

anyway to all SGS2 owners out there.. enjoy ur phone. u choose to have the exclusivity of becoming early owner of such a great device and just believe that things will get better in time.

If your cousin cmg back next week he have to hunt for sim free stock now. There will be big shipment on Monday in UK for second batch. To claim VAT ask you cousin to fill up VAT form from the shop, bring his passport as well. Then claim it at London Heathrow airport (nt sure other london airport provide VAT refund as my place (Birmingham airport) doesnt offer VAT refund service.) And ask him to take out the phone from the box if he is bringing back more than 4 so custom wont be suspicious.  smile.gif

thanks for the info!!

LIke i said earlier too battery life is the main reason i get SGS II. Other than that is not an issue for me. Sense 3.0 ka, TW ka, Motoblur ka, so what... I"m not a super duper geek guy.. As for average consumer feel all of the UI is good but cmg from htc sense to TW i prefer TW more. Personal preferences.. One thing in this year or cmg years is I need front facing camera as well. Haha.. =D
*
yeah personally i also feel touchwiz is not bad at all... but htc sense offers more in terms of user experience.. the interface and interaction between user and the device is richer in sense.

however i do notice one thing i like in the SGS 2.. the message and email layout in landscape mode.. cool! thumbup.gif

the gorilla glass wont scratch because of contact with key, or tip of ball pen.. but it can get scratch by the tiny end of blade.. but who wanna put that kind of blade on a phone?

the most common situation where u'll find gorilla glass device get scratched is due to small sands that sometimes get into our pockets. this tiny sands easily cause hairline scratch on the gorilla glass if it's rub against the screen.

i just played with SGS II and i don't think it's that bad as some of u guys saying. maybe there might be some weaknesses, but some of them is well known.. and it's not that serious...

for example i notice some people complaining about the lack of led notification. come on! it's very obvious and clear there's no led notification and why after bought the phone only complain? it's like buying samsung phone and complain there is no htc sense widgets. LOL!

the phone is not bad at all.. i like it.. and few hours playing where i tested thoroughly almost everything (normal usage, call: speaker, loudspeaker, bluetooth, sms, mms gps: brut map, papago x5, games, web surfing, video playback, music playback, browsing gallery, camera capture, video recording) enough to convince me to buy this phone soon..

there's no perfect phone and SGS 2 is not send to earth by GOD.

Wow, so many bad review about SGS II. Not sure what you all want from a smartphone. Overall TW is good enough out of the box. 15hr and counting for my battery with 30% left.  thumbup.gif

@oldKyoo I just played Glyder 2 and I'm not sure why your phone lag but mine is fine.
Simple homescreen.  biggrin.gif

nice lockscreen! tongue.gif

btw why so many hates the lockscreen? personally i like it a lot and i think it's better than the stock android.

it allows a different picture as wallpaper, and also allows quick access to sms / miss call.. thumbup.gif

QUOTE(benny888 @ May 8 2011, 08:54 PM)
My opinion on some comments raised by potential buyers : Is the SGS II a good worthy buy ?

Is this the best ? NO it is not. There is always a better one coming out just round the corner. As of now , if it meets most of your needs, consider it your best

First of all do not be distracted by negative comments unless it is a repeated case similarly opinionated by several users. Off the cuff comments are plenty and we do have not many users yet - I recorded 10 so far but only active commenting on it is 3-4 users only. Others are quiet, perhaps they are very happy with it already or they are just too shy to post their opinions. Some negative comments are solely based on personal preferences on what they expect from the phone. Their certain expectations could be unimportant to you

These are my personal opinion - there is no right/wrong answer here. I am not a high power user. Besides the usual phone functions, I used the phone mainly for browsing/Email/Newsfeed/RSS/Tweeter/Facebook updates. Multitasking is an important criteria for me

User Interface : Do not compare with HTC Sense which is far superior . Touch Wiz 4 though is an improvement is still way behind in terms of design, features, attractiveness - there is still lacking the " will die and grab it " appeal . However it is a vast improvement over the older Galaxy S - is slicker, smoother and more responsive. If you don't like it, just customize it yourself with other launchers: ADW or  Zeam or Launcher Pro or Go Launcher or SpB Shell 3D - fill the homescreens with your desired apps and widgets. I am on SpB Shell 3D and is superbly smooth and slick, way much better than my other dual core Motorola Atrix.

General performance / speed : Apps access/ launching and respond  - fast, very very fast  and smooth, must say is the best and fastest I have used. Beats and blow away the other dual core Atrix to " oblivion". The change to EXT4 FS is indeed a big boost vs the RFS FS used in Galaxy S

Operating temperatures : Fair and good , ranging 30 to 45 degree C - I am comfortable with it. The warmness is insignificant to me

Reboot issues : NONE detected so far

Battery life : Hard to say as I have yet to really test it. First day impression as battery was not fully charge, at idle with several apps auto refreshing data ( email, weather, RSS, Newsfeed) from 11 pm till 7 am, battery drop by 30 % which is higher than my other Androids which ranges about 20 % max . Would give a better feedback after several days usage

Camera/Video : I do not have high expectations. Even the ARC which is deem the best does not impress me significantly that I will be overwhelm by it. I'd just say as a normal user I am happy with it - at least it turns up sharp, nice, clear and not blur. Again this feature dependent on one's levels of expectations. Haven't taken any night shots yet. Anyway to me this camera feature is just a bonus when I need it - it is never a consideration when I buy phones

Browser ( on Dolphin HD ) : Superb , the screen slightly oversensitive at times and occasionally flicker slightly . Slightly faster than the  Atrix and is way ahead of the IS, Arc, Streak, Galaxy tab

Games : I tested only Asphalt 6 - superb graphics display, very smooth and responsive - slightly better than Atrix . Other Androids just cannot compare which show some lag at times. Anyway, I am not a gamer - how well it performs is not an important issue. Based on its hardware, I don't think one will regret using it to play games

Just two days on it, my satisfaction factor : 9.5/10
Overall is the best Android I have used to date. I have said I wish to give Samsung a second chance after a dismal performance from the SGS and I must say I am not disappointed. As a comparison, How do my other Androids rank compared to it ?

HTC Incredible S : 9
Xperia Arc : 7
Dell Streak : 7
Galaxy Tab : 9
Nexus One : 9
HD2 @ android : 8
Galaxy S : 5
*
well said and fair enuff! notworthy.gif anyway what's the rating for Atrix?

good review guys. and also thanks to ccm for the pictures..

from the pictures, we can see clearly SGS2 pictures have better contrast .. and i dont think SGS2 is yellowish, but our eyes said so bcoz Nexus S pictures are a bit bluish..

for the focus, i'm not sure why, but maybe due to focus setting.. coz nexus S is using android stock camera app while SGS2 has lots of setting to play.. i dunno, only those who has sgs2 can verify it.. smile.gif
