Hi,

There seems to be an arrival of new hp models : the g and pavilion series.

I went to midvalley and played with the g4 (14inch) for a while. It comes in many great colors : blue, red, grey ...but only the red and grey seem available. The red one is wub.gif The laptop is in an all glossy finish, but the plastics used are of very good quality and don't flex. The design is very nice : the colors used are very "chic", the lid matches the palm rest and it's very minimalistic. I also liked the metal hinges, that do not wobble under heavy pressure (unlike any other laptop with plastic hinges). Overall, the build quality and design are impressive rclxms.gif

However, no usb 3.0 sad.gif

For 2300rm (or something like that hmm.gif ), you can get these specs :

Intel core i5 2nd generation
4 gb ram
500 gb hard drive
Ati radeon hd 6470
6-cell battery with 4,25 hours of battery life

Note : I am not a 100 % about the specs (especially the battery life).

Here's the link of a video :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kuy_owGH940

Currently no reviews sad.gif

I did not play with the pavilion too much, it seemed overpriced laugh.gif

Well, I miss this trend as nowadays laptops are silver, black and grey since the new trend of metal. It's kind of boring. I don't mind gloss as long as it's colorful (red, blue, orange or green brows.gif ) and bright, so that the fingerprints and smudge are less apparent.

I have been using a silver laptop for quite some time, I need something to brighten up my day laugh.gif

However, does the gloss make the palm rest slippery ? Is it annoying ?

Pricelist updated, thanks for sharing notworthy.gif
Iirc, there was a promotion for some of this units where 3 years warranties is offered, quite worth it I would say thumbup.gif
Not sure whether the promotion is still on or not ...

The good thing about glossy materials is that it'll never look old even when your lappy is a few years old laugh.gif
But the bad thing is that they get dirty, very very easily, need to clean them almost everyday sad.gif
And nope, they aren't slippery ~

Toshiba L series laptops are quite glossy as well, but they don't really look nice, abit too thick... And the colors are dull

Exactly, now I can buy a colorful laptop for less nod.gif

Sure, there's the dell 14r but it's thick and heavy.

Yeah, the new L745/755 looks almost the same as the previous L645/655 laugh.gif
As mentioned, they're quite thick, and hence not that nice... but as for reliability, you can count on Toshs, had recommended a few friends some L510, L645 etc. and all are still working well with no problems whatsoever thumbup.gif

Hey, I am reviving this thread right now since I just bought the hp G4-1025TX (red). It came with a carrying bag (that's a little tiny sad.gif ) and an optical mouse.

So far :

- seems to run cool (the fan blows cool air when the laptop is idle)
- the keyboard is a pleasure to type on : the keys are spaced, large and have a nice springy feel to them. It is much better than an island keyboard IMO, especially those you find on an apple, or sony notebook.
- the touch pad is ok, the click buttons are great and you can disable it.
- The best thing about it is the design : the red gloss is superb, seems durable and doesn't seem to show fingerprints at all hmm.gif (well my notebook is new sweat.gif ). And it's sturdy : 0 flex anywhere.
- It's far less noisy than the sony vaio s
- Another great feature is the matte border around the display. Any other brand will use a glossy border and it will pick up fingerprints and look ugly over time
- The speakers are loud and clear thumbup.gif.

Really, people should consider this laptop more often. Compared to other budget laptops, this one has a special attention to small details like the overall design, the keyboard, the matte screen border, the disable touch pad, the metal hinges and the great speakers. Sure, other brands will give better specs for the price. But they will miss out on the features mentioned above.

Well, I am too lazy to do some benchmarks about heat, performance and battery life. But you can read the review of the g6 on laptopmag http://www.laptopmag.com/review/laptops/hp-pavilion-g6x.aspx. The G6 is very similar to the G4, the only difference is the screen size.

Summary of laptopmag's review of the g6 :

Pros

Attractive design with multiple color options
Solid performance
Comfortable keyboard
Good speakers
Lightweight for 15-inch notebook

Cons

Touchpad not centered, buttons a bit stiff (the touchpad is centered on the g4, the stiffness is nice)
Lackluster Wi-Fi range (no problem so far with my internet connection hmm.gif)

Really, there are no cons about this laptop. It's just perfect thumbup.gif. The only drawback might be the entry level gpu for some. But you can buy the dv4 if you want more performance.

I would like to highlight once again, the great speakers notworthy.gif

Concerning the heat, it gets a little warm during gaming, but cools down quickly when surfing or idle. A cooling pad would be super effective as the fan is underneath.
