Good quality plastic, long battery hour, the keyboard i think they improve d, it is much better than U35JC or other previous U series.

A42Jr user here!

Have a few problems and questions.

Questions first.
I saw a couple of heatsinks here:

The one on the right is the original Aluminium finned sink that comes with my A42Jr, and the one on the left is the Copper finned sink that comes with the i7 models (X42Jr, A42JA).

Are they interchangeable? If so, I'd like to equip my A42Jr with a full copper sink.

Second question; is the HD5470M GPU on my A42Jr an MXM card or is it soldered to the motherboard? In the even that it is not soldered, is there anywhere that I can pick up a stronger card like a HD5650M or a HD5730M instead?

Also will the increased load require the need for me to purchase the full copper heatsink, and a 120W adapter instead of the current 90W one?

Third question, is there a known and reliable fan control software or BIOS mod for this laptop?

Now for the problems part.
I have a 'trampoline' keyboard which bends and flexes in parts and is annoying. I plan to get that fixed @ Asus in the coming holidays.

At the same time, the ST9500325AS drive I have acts up occasionally.
The HDD activity light goes on hard, the HDD gadget I have shows 100% load and everything freezes/stops responding. I put my ear at the hard drive but do not hear any skittering sounds; which means that the HDD head is not reading/writing but somehow the HDD itself is being loaded heavily causing the system to freeze. This happens only occasionally.
Has anyone else faced this problem with their ST9500325 Seagate drives or am I the only one so far?

May be trading up my A42Jr for an A42JA in the next week.

It does look interchangeable, especially when the X42Jr and the A/K42Jr share the same basic chassis and internal design.
The copper one gives better cooling prowess.

In any case, that won't affect me much since I may be trading up to an A42JA soon.

Sigh, so no hopes of just switching up the graphics on my Asus.

As for fan control, I've tried SpeedFan and NHC and even ACPI tweaking to no avail.

I just want the fan to run at its full speed since I hate the sound and vibrations (resonant frequency, not broken blades) when the fan reaches a certain speed.

Hi... A42jv user here... =) ..... 1 question... a42jv doesnt have mic pot so did u all used adapter? what that adapter name? cos i want to buy one.... and anyone sell it here in garage sale?

The A42JA is currently retailing for ~SGD1200.

The shop told me that going by specs alone, I can top-up SGD370 for the JA-spec notebook.

They have yet to see the condition.
Planning on bringing it down today for evaluation.

The price might also decrease if they let me use the original 500GB HDD from my Jr instead of the new 750GB one in the JA, and keep my 2x2GB DIMMs instead of the JA's 2x4GB DIMMs.
