Use your own Windows disc if want to format, then use the serial key on the laptop bottom to activate it.

Hey guys,

I own an Asus A42Jv, and realize that the bottom corner where the fan is at becomes extremely hot even when I raise the laptop from the table (Laptop fan but fan not working) when I play games.
Anyone else experience this? Any way I can improve the temperature?

Also, I heard if you upgrade your laptop's HDD to.. some hybrid thing.. it will improve the overall performance?
Can it be done for this laptop?

then all application software that have license that came with the laptop will vanish isn't it?

Clean the dust, re-do thermal paste?
You referring to the Momentus XT? Can be done, since its the standard size 2.5'' HDD. Better save for SSD though biggrin.gif

Not even the Asus logo show up?
Can you take out the battery/power supply, then press and hold the power button for 10 seconds. Then plug in the power, try to start it up.
If still blank, try to connect to external monitor.

I'll try cleaning the dust first and see the temperature improve or not. Re-do thermal paste? Will it void my warranty?
Yup that's the one, Seagate Momentus XT. My laptop is less than a year old, still worth it to upgrade right?
What are the advantages? biggrin.gif What is SSD?

Yeah, will void the warranty.
The Momentus XT has a 4GB SSD acted as cache, It will learn your usage pattern and try to speed up that process, which usually goes to booting up the notebook and launching your frequent applications. Other than that, its just a normal HDD.
SSD is Sold State Disk, the real upgrade from HDD, but cost much much more..

Hm, how much would the SSD cost? Can't seem to view Intel SSD page, it's all jumbled up, the words are overlapping.
I shall read up more about SSD when I have the chance, but for now, could you tell me the price and which is suitable for A42Jv? I game, download loads of movies/tv series and songs. Don't use Photoshop and such.

In your opinion, worth it to upgrade?
Is the improvement on performance so great compared to stock HD?

In about 1 and a half years time, I am planning to build my own desktop (first time). Should I still upgrade?
A bit over my budget for 60GB also cry.gif

Worth to upgrade, if you are concern about responsiveness.
On budget, you can try find Intel X25-M 160GB OEM on the garage sales, some selling RM400.

Comparison:

The SSD is the slow one though in this video.

But if currently the notebook is enough for you, then better save it for the desktop biggrin.gif

Won't do much on CPU/GPU temp, mostly the HDD area would be cooler..

Anyway, now is a bad time to buy SSD right?
Due to Thailand flood, so i'll do my price checking later.
Or has the prices drop already?
