it said 5730 got hot issue then 6730 might got. 5650 they said will make the fan noise. maybe cos i'm 5650 user.

There is one asus salesperson he told me to go for GT540m

He used previous asus model with 5730m to play games Call of Duty. He can feel the heat start at the keyboard.

Then he play the same game on the asus model with GT540m. There are fan noise and can feel the heat coming out from heat sink. But the laptop will not feel as hot as the one with 5730m.

Conversely, there is a sifu say that in consensus most pro will say ati 6xxxm series is cooler than gt5xx series. In fact most sifu on forum say 6730m is better.

How much is one 4GB?
On a tight budget bro, and I'm just using it for gaming and normal laptop use.
I read 4GB is enough for normal gaming.

Should be around RM70..

Just read through a website in china.

They review the Asus laptop with GPU 540M and 5730m

They use software to tell the CPU, GPU and HDD temperature. Besides they also use Fluke heat camera to measure the keyboard temperature.

Here's the part i am not understand:
The software result shows that 6730m has lower temperature. But using the Fluke heat camera it shows that laptop has the heat more "concentrated".

Why is that happen?

Its different generation Asus.
The A42 generation runs quite hot, the A42Jv with GT335M always hit 90C when gaming, HDD also can hit 50C...
and that A40Ja is equivalent with A42Ja in Malaysia..

emm so if to compare fairly, i should compare laptop model GT335m to 5730m.

in this case, 5730m win.........?

thus if laptop model gt540m vs 6730m, 6730m better?

Well, you should find GT540M and HD6730M, since that's what is your target.
From the screenshot I gave before, the HD6730M runs quite cool..

Will an increase in ram to 6GB cause more overheating problem or is it unaffected?

Should be little to none effect...

lol dont worry so much about temp. im using the 5730. sure its hot after gaming (80+C) and yes the area below the keyboard (handrest) gets hot. but it's only normal for this kind of laptop level. But after 15mins or so the temp drops back to 50C hehe


5650/5730 is old.. last years models have this. yes its get hot. but see above

hai. just bought u46sv on saturday. it seems that some of my function key(eg voulume n wifi) doesnt work. but brightness function can function. is this related to software or hardware? can i fix it myself?
and everytime i restart the laptop, the icons appear on the desktop. but i have unchecked the show desktop icons. what's wrong ah?

you mean the blue FN keys? just go to the asus website and download and install the ATK package for your laptop model. should work after that.

for the icons.. can give a screenshot? you're talking about desktop shortcuts or the icons on the side taskbar?

Added on November 29, 2011, 8:46 ambtw, i use the event viewer to see the boot time. it's an average of 99secs. i think that's quite long. when i open the boot degradation it seems that backgroung prefetch time takes a lot of the boot time. any suggestion on how to reduce the boot time? i saw from a forum a guy made his boot time 27secs. same model

To get rid of the desktop icons- just delete the shortcuts la lol. the programs itself will still be there

Increase boot speed: start> type msconfig in the search box> click and go to startup tab> disable unnecessary programs start up like skype/msn/utorrent etc. so when you boot up your PC these programs wont launch by itself

why didnt i think of that in the first place-.-
already done that. installed soluto too. but still doesnt make any big change to boot time. what's the key for BIOS during start up? i want to enable quick boot in bios

to enter BIOS is either DEL or F2 key.. check your laptop manual or ASUS e-manual

installing is easy bro.. you can buy the win 7 dvd yourself. then during startup press F12 to access boot priority menu. Change boot order 1 to your dvd drive. Then save and restart. When your com restart it will begin the win 7 installation. after its done change back your boot order to your hard drive where your installed win7.

done.

Should be the Power 4 Gear overriding the desktop icon settings..
