AXN Takes Falling Skies to Asia

SINGAPORE: Sony Pictures Television Networks, Asia has scored the rights to TNT's hit summer series Falling Skies for broadcast on AXN Beyond in Southeast Asia and AXN in Taiwan, India and Korea.

Acquired from Turner Broadcasting System Asia Pacific, the series—from DreamWorks Television, TNT Productions and executive producer Steven Spielberg—will roll out in the region later this year. “The launch of Falling Skies internationally promises to be a global television event,” said Steve Koonin, the president of Turner Entertainment Networks. “We’re excited that people throughout Asia will be able to experience this great new series along with 75 other countries and regions around the world.”


Ricky Ow, senior VP and general manager for SPT's networks in Asia, added, "Our viewers across 15 territories will soon have a new, gripping series to look forward to. We are confident that Falling Skies is set to capture the imagination of even more viewers."

Are the malay and chinese subtitles displayed at same time (like NTV7) or we can choose only one subtitle at one time ?

Why Astro B.yond doesn't have RTM in HD

i pity those who subscribed for the sports package just to watch the EPL teams live and then discovered all of them got cancelled.

I'm having a little problem with the Byond remote control.
The OK button and the arrows doesnt work, the guide doesnt show when I press them.
So does the home, radio, tv buttons.
The numbers and ON/OFF button is fine though.
The mute button works when I press, but the mute icon doesnt show.

Or is it some kind of other problem, because usually when we change the channels, the show banner will show at the bottom.
Now it doesnt.

I just happened suddenly, it was fine a moment before.

Malaysia’s Measat Said to Hold Talks on Selling Satellite Stakes

July 15 (Bloomberg) — Measat Global Bhd., controlled by Malaysian billionaire T. Ananda Krishnan, has held talks with Eutelsat Communications SA and Asia Satellite Telecommunications Ltd. on selling stakes in satellites, according to three people familiar with the discussions.

The negotiations may also lead to a partnership between Measat and one of the companies, two of the people said, declining to be identified because the discussions are private. An agreement would give them access to Measat’s four satellites and help share costs of future launches.

A sale would help Ananda Krishnan, Malaysia’s second- richest man, raise funds after buying out three companies last year for a total 7.9 billion ringgit ($2.6 billion). The billionaire, whose wealth was estimated to be $9.5 billion last year by Forbes magazine, also owns a majority stake in Malaysia’s largest mobile-phone company, Maxis Bhd.

“It makes sense to have such alliances as it enables the parties involved to leverage on each other capacities as long as there is no overlap,” said Clare Chin, head of research at Kuala Lumpur-based CLSA Securities Malaysia Sdn. “It would also help them to save capital expenditure costs.”

Measat may be interested in sharing assets, splitting the costs of new launches, and exchanging satellite stakes, two of the people said. Chief Executive Officer Paul Brown-Kenyon wasn’t immediately available for comment when contacted by telephone and e-mail.

Rising Prices

Demand from broadcasters and phone carriers in emerging markets including China, India and Indonesia is rising, driving up average bandwidth prices by more than 5 percent annually in Asia, C.W. Cheung, Asia Pacific director at telecommunications consultants Ovum, said in an interview in Hong Kong yesterday.

“In some markets prices of satellite bandwidth are starting to go up, and this is driving investment activities in the sector,” said Cheung said.

Kuala Lumpur-based Measat, which beams signals to Asia, the Middle East, Europe and Australia, said on June 7 it’s ordering a new satellite costing about 1 billion ringgit scheduled for launch by the end of 2013. Ananda Krishnan, 73, delisted Measat along with Kuala Lumpur-based power and gaming company Tanjong Plc and pay-TV broadcaster Astro All Asia Networks Plc last year.

Star to invest RM35m for 51pc in Li TV

STAR Publications (Malaysia) Bhd is investing RM35 million for a 51 per cent stake in Li TV Holdings Ltd, an Asian television channel operator.

It signed an investment agreement with Li TV and Juita Viden International Ltd, a member of the Juita Viden Media Entertainment Group, Malaysia’s largest independent television programme distributor in Malaysia.

“The investment in Li TV is part of our strategy of diversifying into media that we currently do not have within our portfolio of media assets,” Star executive deputy chairman Datuk Vincent Lee said ina statement.

Li TV’s lifestyle channel Li, Life Inspired is Asia’s first high definition lifestyle TV channel.


It is shown over Astro’s channel 706 and other Pay TV broadcasters in Hong Kong, Singapore, Indonesia and Taiwan.

The channel started its broadcast in 2009.

Rais beri Astro amaran, atasi gangguan siaran atau hadapi padah

KUALA LUMPUR, 16 Julai – Atasi segera gangguan siaran semasa hujan atau hadapi tindakan undang-undang, demikian tegas Menteri Penerangan, Komunikasi dan Kebudayaan Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim kepada Astro.

Beliau berkata rungutan rakyat mengenai masalah itu telah dimaklumkan kepada stesen televisyen berbayar itu yang berjanji untuk mengatasi masalah berkenaan.

Dipetik Bernama Online, Rais berkata, Suruhanjaya Komunikasi dan Multimedia Malaysia (SKMM) mungkin terpaksa mengambil tindakan ‘teknikal’ susulan memandangkan masalah itu menyebabkan pelanggan kerugian dari segi minit dan jumlah masa tontonan sedangkan bayaran fi berdasarkan minit siaran.

“Hal ini sedang dikaji oleh Astro dan mereka perlu segera atasinya. Jika berterusan tidak menerima isyarat (semasa siaran) ia merupakan satu ketidakadilan kepada rakyat dan penonton,” katanya kepada pemberita selepas menghadiri program merakyatkan seni budaya anjuran Persatuan Penduduk Ampang Jaya di Kelab Darul Ehsan di sini.

Rais berkata antara aspek perundangan yang boleh diambil ialah menilai semula bayaran lesen penyiaran bagi syarikat tersebut.

“Atau pun pihak berkenaan perlu memberikan kelonggaran dari sudut bayaran fi... bab itu sedang diteliti oleh penguatkuasa undang-undang,” katanya.

Berhubung iklan yang didakwa terlalu banyak ditayangkan Astro, Rais berkata, perkara itu sentiasa diberi perhatian oleh SKMM dan setakat ini jumlah minit iklan yang ditayangkan tidak melebihi jumlah ditetapkan.

Beliau berkata kerajaan tidak menghalang penyiaran iklan di Astro kerana ia berlandaskan kepada syarat dalam lesen.

Jumlahnya hendaklah tidak lebih daripada 10 minit bagi setiap jam di setiap saluran.

“Di Malaysia kita bermula dengan enam ke 10 minit bagi sejam rancangan dan saya yakin pada masa ini SKMM sedang meneliti jumlah minit iklan di Astro agar tidak melebihi had 10 minit yang dibenarkan bagi setiap sejam rancangan,” katanya.

Sebelum ini pemantauan SKMM juga menujukkan Astro tidak menayangkan terlalu banyak iklan komersil, malah secara purata masa iklan yang digunakan oleh Astro hanyalah 19 hingga 20 peratus atau 46-50 minit daripada 240 minit masa yang dibenarkan untuk mereka menyiarkan iklan komersil dalam sehari.
