Hi,

Been playing Eve for 3 weeks now. Good to know there's Malaysian playing this game.

I liked this type of game better compared to the typical hack-and-slash online games.

If you were to rejoin EVE, you can meet up with a few active & endangered Malaysians (included me) in the chat room "Kopitiam" located in the Player Channels.

As for a Malaysian corp, there's none, to my knowledge.

Hope to see more Malaysians in EVE.

I will be in EVE for a long time wink.gif I liked the complexity of EVE.
I'll always be in Kopitiam channel, only when I'm logged in laugh.gif usually after downtime, at 8pm Malaysia timezone.

My corp is B.A.Y. Mining & Construction Ltd, which based in Lonetrek region.

Each Empire's got their own sovereign space, which consisted of Regions, then Constellations, then Solar Systems, and finally where the actions are: stations, planets (for the moment just for eye candy), moons, asteroid belts, Deadspace Complexes, and etc.

Informations about market, escrow, and such is limited to the region you're in. And each region has their own economy.
Every corps would want to conquer a region's (or more) economy and mining. In EVE, ISK (monetary value in EVE) which equal to power. Follow the links as the guy can explain it better than me:
The Uber Drake of Space

You'll want to be near your corp's HQ, to join their activities and help each other. The corp's HQ may in another Empire or region. Maybe you have your own prefered region somehow, which mean you'll need to travel far to get together with your corp's mate.

Usually economy are focused in high security space (1.0 to 0.5, where there's protection from the space police, Concord), since most of EVE inhabitants are here.
In low security (0.4 to 0.0), it's about mining, since rarer minerals are only available here. This is where dog eats dog holds meaning. Don't worry about NPC pirates (we call them rats, to differentiate them from player pirates), you'll only need to worry about player pirates. Ruthless or merciful kind of pirates, your luck lor...
Powerfull Corps or Alliances have taken their share most of low security space, with their own Privately Owned Station (POS) in a Solar System, to facilitate their activities.

PVP is the fun factor in EVE. I've yet to be in one so I can't justify it enough from my understanding about it. All i can say, we can hurt each other since war is very costly. Good ships are not cheap and so does the weapons and modules (ship's equipments). Once boom, that's it.

Nice thing and suit me about EVE is the skills are not training by leveling, since there's no character level in the 1st place. Just train a skill and given enough time, there it is. Each skill has up to 5 levels. Some people b****ed that it's just marketing to have players stay longer in EVE, but for me it's just a trade of from grinding, which i rather don't have time for.

That's the summary from my EVE experience and there's more yet to mention. I hope don't confuse too much laugh.gif

Well, I like EVE partly because of it's skill training system. While the training is done background, I can do whatever I want, be it mission running (equal to questing?), hunting, mining, trading, courier (legal and illegally smile.gif), and some other activities.
I'm way too tired to grind to level up as of typical MMO are, whatever their setting may be i.e. Fantasy, Sci-fi, etc. It's a trade off of some sort. My skills are improved over time and I don't need to hack'n'slash to gain experience, repetitively day in and day out.

It's undeniably it takes time to train skills, but only those skills of high level and advanced skills. Well, I'm going to level up the skills, sooner or later, except I'm taking it easy and doing something that I want to do.

Usually new characters are for specialization. The new char are purposely limited to certain skills to specialize in certain career, activity or combat role.

On serious note...
Most of us are working people, and some on graveyard shifts. It'll be full (some times and almost, but I wish it do always) after the daily Down Time which is Malaysian time at 7:00pm to 8:00pm. A very nice timing for us indeed smile.gif

Took a long while to log on.... I thought I had connection problems but it was just Streamyx being real slow. Finally managed to get on, and started the tute. Got to the point where I had to wait for a pirate ship to come by to get the key to progress to the next deadspace, but the pirates really take their time to respawn.

In the meantime, while sitting there, I got what sounded like a very homosexual request. It was a "would you like to cruise wif me?" followed by a question pertaining to my sexual orientation.

I decided to call it a night cos it was late, I had to work and the request to join a gang with the abovementioned person was fairly awkward. And I also had a n00b steal a container from me after I nailed a rat. His name was blinking red, but I decided it was wise not to take action... Should I have blown him apart?

Game name: Roland San, Caldari and in some State War corp. Looking forward to joining up with some Malaysians that won't ask me awkward questions smile.gif
*
The 1st time and every time after the daily DT (Down Time), it'll be slow because the client download don't-know-what, but afterwards it's quite fast to load to character selection screen.

When the culprits' name are flashing red, it means they stole your stuffs and it's a confirmed kill right for you wink.gif
A Kestrel fire a salvo of 4 light missiles are more than enough to take care a noob ship.

Good luck with your future PVP encounters in safe space.

You 'pandai kira', Dan. Your pride are more valueable then the implants.

Remember, kids. Never give in to the pirates. Don't negotiate either, even if you have better bargain.

Sorry, Dan. I have to rub salt to your wound. jk jk tongue.gif

QUOTE(exshige @ Jul 11 2006, 10:51 AM)
retired from WoW and was recommended by my fren to EVE when talking about the upcoming Darkstar One, privateer-like game. So do some reading.

The gameplay seem not bad.. i like the idea of able to hurt other corporation and the cost of dying which is absent in WoW. Give u thrill and suspense.

After reading for few days, i still have some confusion,

1. Can i jump profession easily? Say I start to be a miner so i focus on mining skill, then later on i want to train my gunnery and become fighter, is tat okay?

2. Is joining a corporation rili crucial in further advance ur career and character?

3. U lost the ship if it get destroyed.. i like it. But will it make the game hard coz u lose all ur mods and ship? Coz i die thousand of times in WoW due to PVP.. lol..

4. Wat is the ultimate goal? Is there an ultimate storyline or just get a corp out and be the richesh biggest most influencial corp?

5. So wat you do daily mostly?

6. I read about mission, can we do mission in group or only solo?

7. Is the server stable after so many years?

8. How come Gamespot rate it 6++ score only...?  blink.gif

Hope you don't mind my long list of question.. biggrin.gif Thanks.
*
1. Yep, it's up to you what skills you want to train. In the end of the day, it's what you do is what you are.
You can specialize, mix-n-match or be Jack-of-all-trade if you want. Just plan out what skills you'll need for your career(s). Like me, as a Mission Runner and small part-time Miner, have a lot of combat related skills and least of (useful) mining skills. And there's chances you might not like the career you had in mind you would like it to be and want to try other careers. That won't hurt you much to train other skills, it's just that you'll spend the ISK (EVE monetory) on the skill books and don't train too much on it.

2. Corps could be solely a mining/manufacturing corp, PvE corp, PvP corp, pirate corp, or mixed.
Join a corp if you want more interactions, such as chatting sweat.gif, corp activities/operations (mining, mission, complexes, ratting, gatecamping(PvP only), etc), or access to 0.0 space (not that you can't go in alone, but you'll end up dead sooner smile.gif either in neutral or Alliance owned).

3. There're chances you can recover some mods and your cargo, well only in PvE. There's very little or no chance in that in PvP tongue.gif
Yeah, it's hard, but you get to insure your ship though. At highest insurance price you get full ship price (market standard price). Just prepare to replace the mods with the ISK from your own wallet :|

4. Like Red said, EVE is pretty much open ended. My current goal is to own a few of them T2 ships cool.gif

5. Mission running, hanging out in either in my corp or Kopitiam cool.gif

6. Both and like what Red said.

7. Pretty much stable... only occasional lag. Normally i'll get 300~400 ms'ish ping (yes, i check ping before i go into mission tongue.gif). Not sure if it's Screamyx or the server side dry.gif

8. Like Throk said: Old news. The review stated 5000~6000 people online, 3 years ago. Now, at least 13k. Weekend 19k.

Just a few warning for you. EVE Online's learning curve is steep. It takes patient to learn EVE. We have "kaki-kaki lepak" in Kopitiam to help you if you need it thumbup.gif Afterwards, prepare for EVE addiction.

Also, if already you know about the character's attributes and how it'll affect your gameplay, it's all good.
If not, make a temporary char (it takes about 10 hours to permenantly delete a char, a safety feature), join Kopitiam channel and we can explain it to you thumbup.gif

Lately i'm having ping of about ~700ms, still playable but feel laggy.

driod, you mean drones? I'm not a PvP guy to properly tell you, but drones attacking frigate... i'll say just run, especially from those freaks in gallente ships rolleyes.gif
The kopitiam channel is close enough as a corp for all of us cool.gif (tax free some more)

QUOTE(VonDrake @ Aug 7 2006, 07:52 PM)
Ok so ANyways i wanna buy this game (next month when my ambank goes up (prepaid)) but then again i can only play weekends... which totally and awfully sucks... but when holiday starts its game time... also since i can only play 2 days a week a with skills not auto renewing hows it gonna work for me? one skill can start 2 days (start sunday end tuesday) im gonna be stuck 3 days of no skill ups sad.gif but eh so is it gonna be worth it? i did the trial no lagg (which totally rocks and all) but i dunno 2 days a week sleep.gif
*
Well, whenever you got a bit of free time you could just login, switch the skill that'll finish training before your next free time. Train next long training skill. When come your holidays, train those short training skills.
Or ask someone to switch skill for you.

5 x local hull conversion expanded cargo hold worth 175,000,000.00
and my ship and containers and some mods estimated worth 4,000,000.00

Aiyo Dan...
Looks like you unfortunately met an organized high sec suicide gank squad sweat.gif
Iteron V, and as well as other faction's Industrial class ships have paper thin defense. I thought you would have gotten the Occator, the more defensive (and expensive, no doubt) gallente Transport class ship. Just less 2k m3 cargo space compared to Iteron V...
Not trying to rub salt on your wounds, just survival tips.

No idea if Caldari's ships are the less favoured in PvP, though they excel at e-warfare and shield tanking, advantages in missiles are always hit attack but lesser damage of big missiles to small targets ...and for dan's case, high sec ganking...

I'm specialized in Caldari's ships, btw. Waiting for Kali patch for Tier-3 battleship, Caldari's railboat (my tool of trade for killing stuffs), booya! cool.gif

Please consider this patching a major one, train short training skills only if you feel very very lucky.
Do you feel lucky? Tell me if you do, i'll go buy 4D tongue.gif

There is Concord, the pirates just need to attack one salvo of missiles each of them, before they are being Concordokkened. They figured they need 3 Caracals to blast open an Iteron V to get the juicy contents whistling.gif Another Caracal could be standing by in case the 1st 3 suicide runs are not enough.
