QUOTE(psychict @ May 26 2011, 10:48 AM) I'm on Froyo! The Official one.. The whole process was seamless as I've only have ADW Launcher, and obviously my various other apps which includes SetVSel, Rooted, Titanium Backup etc.. I've upgraded from Eclair 2.59 SEA version straight to Froyo Official 2.2.2 No problems except I'll just need to reroot the phone, resend my contacts over... Other than that, all my application data are all still intact.. Hope this gives an idea to any of the bros out there who wanna upgrade the "official" way BTW, the whole process took me less than an hour.. ie 30mins to download the update, 15mins to actually update it.. Cheers all! performance wise, any difference? hope the upgrade is not as screwed up as the milestone upgrade, which was really badly implemented. the eclair was better than the froyo for milestone!

QUOTE(sanosizo @ May 26 2011, 11:04 AM) my only complaint so far is about the text messaging app. it takes quite sometime to load, approx around 7-8 seconds. with eclair it opens instantly. if you use handcent, would it still lag the same?

QUOTE(blackwhitechipsKL @ May 29 2011, 09:18 PM) if using froyo and above, auto task killer is actually a waste of time, and in a way, might even use more battery cos apps keep restarting and auto killer keep killing You mean froyo has a built-in task killer? Sorry, my Defy still at the Motorola sevice center, so not able to try froyo....

QUOTE(jeflimmy @ Jun 2 2011, 10:17 AM) Hi all, mind helping me with my question? I bought my Defy from Maxis back in March 2011 & its now experiencing the earpiece problem that was hotly debated previously. Just wanna know : - 1) Is it a hassle to repair this problem? 2) Does the waranty cover this defect? Thanks alot guys dunno if it is a hassle to repair or not, but sure must be covered under warranty. if not, i will burn down motorola office...

QUOTE(quikstep @ Jun 2 2011, 01:33 PM) i don't remember if this was the same behaviour for defy on eclair, do u get the menu to turn off the phone when u hold the power button when the phone is locked (screen not on)??? seems like this is the behaviour now in froyo. i mean, u can actually turn off the phone and by pass whatever pattern recognition/password/security that you have. that's not intelligent at all. ... but when you turn the phone ON again, wouldn't it still ask for the security pattern / code? there is another way to turn off the phone without entering any password / pattern at all..... just pull out the battery.

What a joke.... my defy was with the service center for 1 month, now they had sent it back to the shop and the shop called me for collection on the 7th June. However I was outstation and only returned back to my hometown on the 8th June. Went to the shop on the 9th June and guess what.... the shop is closed from 8th till 13th June! This is great....

QUOTE(tyenfei @ Jun 10 2011, 12:25 PM) shop owner wedding ah?? u so lucky oh Hahaha.... luckily they sent the phone to another branch. I collected it at their other branch. p/s: tried to update froyo using MSU, but cannot de. Only have option to update Milestone & XT720. This is for country Malaysia. Do I choose another country or wait somemore...? Or do I have to do something else? Hmmm....

LOL.... you are right. But I like to maintain my Defy as stock as possible, meaning using all official ROMs only. at least until I find another phone to replace it.

Hmmm... Compelling reasons indeed. Any issues using cm7? This is the only phone I have. The back up phone I have is an ancient motorola v8. And I really don't like using it! I really wouldn't want to revert back to using that phone if possible. I appreciate your enthusiasm in convincing me that custom ROM is the way to go forward, but there are certain aspects of using a phone which is of more importance to me than they are to you. Cheers brother. I see that eventually, I will get around to doing it. Eventually. I do enjoy reading up on you guys' experience in installing and using custom ROM. keep it up guys. Tonnes of useful information here, which I'm sure I will eventually use.

QUOTE(lj0000 @ Jun 16 2011, 11:40 AM) can get at 12xx liao Added on June 16, 2011, 1:25 pmdoes your defy make a strange mechanical noise when u start the camera? like this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CccBSb5D6-cI think maybe that is the autofocus mechanism working? But the weird thing is that before I sent my defy in for service recently (because of the bad earpiece problem), I remember I had this noise in my defy. But now after the phone had been repaired, and since you mentioned it, I tried it again, the noise is gone! How come ah....?

Am using the Gingerbread keyboard on my Froyo Defy. Seems better than the stock keyboard. And I am still not that used to the Swipe keyboard as well... still testing the new Gingerbread keyboard now. Got it free from the Market.
