I am thinking to attach a component set to the front of my Persona, keeping the rear speakers and HU on stock unit. I don't plan to include an amp. How will the SQ be like, well I expect it to be at least better than the stock speakers as it really lack of treble. As long as the new setup can deliver more clarity and deeper bass then I am satisfied.

Persona stock HU is Blaupunkt which is quite good already
the thing is it lacks of tweeter even for H-line

changing speakers will be the right thing to do. Adding a component without amp is do-able. Find a component that is easy to drive ( high sensitivity and does not require lots of power). I can think of domination speakers (not sure about the model) and focal access a1. Heard this 2 powered by the HU only. Not bad at all

at times we cant reli blame the seller, of course it depends on how the customer requested to test.
some would say wanna test this test that..

without any clear direction.. eg, testing something as low as rm 100 to rm 2k.. ( get wat i mean? )

ok if, customer have things in mind, like either going for this 2 product, wanna test and compare sad.gif

just be careful when purchasing these products. maybe you can bring along a experienced friend when visiting these shops and dont make any rush decisions. or just buy from a reputable seller if your friends could not help.

are you from kl? if you insist on buying from shops from kl, then you might want to pay howiechoo a visit. but give him a call before going. their business sometimes might be like free fries from mcd, which everyone rush there.. haha..

i am not sure about the sound, but from the spec sheet, it give u 68hz-20khz freq response...anything below 68 will be inaudible. this is crucial if u wan a better sound

not necessary for rear speakers, most good SQ sound systems dont even have any rear speakers. just concentrate your budget on the front speakers.

my recommendation is save up for more budget...
then get a better component set which you don't have to change anymore in near future...
you will end up saving more than keep buying and changing. smile.gif

mind to try 2nd mid /high end speaker?? as we know mid /high end speaker may give us better sound and frequency respone, you may try to get some mid / high end 2nd or may 3rd hand speaker which is within your budget since you are not too forcus on the "pro ICE"... I would said it may worth than you take some lousy/ low end speaker with that budget.

When i first started, i also think that no need spend too much, just slightly better will do...
but human lust is unlimited...

If u just wan slightly better sound, can replace your stock hu with entry level hu below 500
it serves better than factory hu + entry speaker
you can save some money on speaker wiring and installation cost rolleyes.gif

that could be a lot ot 2nd hand mid/high end speaker in the market, especially for those senior Icer, try to join them for TT, sometime they may let you know they want to sell off their current setup due to upgrading their ICE...

Frankly, i can't just simply recommend the speaker for you, because it would be different speaker different nature. the speaker that i recommend to you may not suit you, just like some ppl like BM but some like Benz...!!!

or maybe just wait for some sifu over here to guide you more....!!!

entry level vifa, domination, davis, flux are the speaker i audited before
quite good even driven by HU itself (p80/9887)
i believe there should have some other brand as well, but i dare not comment without audit. laugh.gif

I guess most of the forumers here will agree that changing to a below RM500 set, might not get you significant improvement over stock, in another word might as well just stay stock.

Of course used units are an option, but be careful when choosing one. Make sure it is working properly. smile.gif

To be honest, the choice is yours smile.gif
for me, i wont compromise on quality of sound reproduction
so steering control is nth for me... i use remote most of the time...

Also, there are two kind of products can counter your issue:
1. A black box thingy which connect your steering control to your aftermarket hu
but not all aftermarket hu can be supported

2. A universal steering wheel control which able to duplicate and transmit the same signal as your remote
as long as your hu comes with a remote, it can be done...

But i'm not sure about the brand or price, so got the info while browsing mags
so let other sifu to assist you then laugh.gif

The signal source is the most crucial part...
Unless its like most of the latest continental car that using closed-loop on board cpu
which links all together... otherwise i won't recommend you to use back factory hu

Yes..HU is play a very important part of the ICE, becoz all the signal come out from there, if the HU can't 100% transfer/read the signal from the source (CD) you may feel that some frequence were missing. that's high end HU like P80,P99, ODR, F1#, Denon Z1 ans so on will cost you so much...!!! smile.gif

my suggestion, change the hu first, skip the amp nod.gif
unless you want "more" then only think about amp & speaker
cause that will incurred more labour & wiring cost than replacing hu

use back the stock speaker??

1st of all, i never listne thar clarion HU, so i can give a very precise comment on this HU how the sound like.. definately, if change HU and add on amplifier the sound quality should be better than stock unit. the question is,how much better / improvement after spend such money to upgrade the system?? is that worth to spend so much money and get that kind of improvement. by the way, that also is a very subjective answer, as i said, some ppl may say worth but some not...important is how is your feel? if you think that is good/ worth for you...then just go ahead....

I was using stock proton Clarion. then after gone tired because it cannot play usb. Changed to an alpine, it was a difference like day and night. On stock speakers, I can say, signal was improved. When cranked up high, no mild hissing sound like my old stock HU. just pure music, vocal and sound from the signal source. Definitely a well worth investment. next might plan to upgrade speakers then amp.

Also, I was contemplating on the remote steering controls. guess we were gotten used to it and stop fiddling with switches on the HU. When i lost the remote function, it took a while to get used to. after all the infra red remote was a savior. if you still want to retain the controls from the steering, there are aftermarket adapters to retain the function. But the price isn't worth the buck. Better spend it on speakers or amps investment.

Trust me, when the sound is good, you will get high and melt within the symphony.

Agree..but according to him, he is not so forcus on "Pro", therefore the budget set also very low..therefore i'm asking him try to look for 2nd mid/high end speaker, at least the sound of quality is not too bad...!!

smile.gif has been keeping track with this thread, and thought it wasn't appropriate for me to reply much to avoid any bias reply from my side

as we all know like all sifu here has said, head unit is definitely the most crucial part in achieving sound quality.

but again, at times we would definitely need to know how much are our budget.

and again, if a person budget is only 700 at the moment, i personally think, changing a better component set would have make a lot difference comparing to changing a head unit smile.gif

all in all, just expressing that, we always gotta know at what extend are we willing to fork out so that we can suggest to take the first step into the car audio.

so if at the moment, we only considering a slight improvement from stock ( which i think what bro sam wants ) , and with his budget, changing a component set would be able to give him the most satisfaction.

for eg, if a guy is complaining on the lack of bass ( we wouldnt be expecting them to change hu first , of course if budget isnt a factor, yes it is recommended )

but with budget constrain, perhaps an active sub , or sub would have be a better choice.

at the end of the day, the choice is yours and happy ice-ing laugh.gif
just my 2 cents

cheers.

hv u audited av quart component??
you can use limited budget to buy few things then throw half of it during 2nd upgrade
or you can use up all budget to buy one better thing and keep using it even upgrade later
which way waste more money?? rolleyes.gif
In ice, its not the amount of item count... its the quality...
Save up your budget, don't compromise... thats my advice nod.gif

Seriously, if budget permits, I would buy from Madisound.....Scanspeak for example.....

Can, in LYN...... Yeah, Vifa are good also, on it performance/price ratio..... But when we start talking on buying stuffs from US, then some party will come in and say all sorts of reasons that why we cannot buy from US. And these parties are usually the popular acc shop operators here......

For your limited budget, I will get a fullrange speaker and use back the original midbass.... Provided your HU speaker output can do sub out which some Pioneer HUs can do this....

if you compare:
stock hu + rm500 component
and
Rm500 hu + stock speaker
i will go for the latter...
good speaker need quality source and decent power at least 18rms to drive
which stock hu definitely don't have...

USD29 a pair..... Good for a start.....
https://www.madisound.com/store/product_inf...roducts_id=8234
USD91.2 a pair......
If your Pioneer HU speaker output can do Sub out, use that to control the midbass while the front speaker output to the fullrange which you can put on the dashboard....
Cost for the speakers may come to about rm600-700, but you will be very happy with it.....

When getting Hus, Pioneer won't ask much questions even you got a grey area market HU. They will still charge normal rm45 or 50 for checking.....
If you get Alpine grey area market HUs, good luck to you..... Everything will be charged double..... Make sure it has WKH Malaysia sticker.....

Just changed to a new SONY HU that cost apprix. RM270++ with installation. Now in the midst of considering the change the rear speakers with the package of Woofer with tweeter and the crossfader units. Will it be better ? Just the rear speakers only as the stock speaker sounds weird after changing the unit. Weird feeling as if listening to sound in multiple directions. Kinda dizzy ..

Hello, thanks for the prompt reply. Does that means that it actually wont sound that bad but they purposely do it?
Coz the sound produced by the speaker really sound weird and makes me dizzy sometimes. How to check all the criteria you mentioned?

I only have the rear Left & Right speakers. Anything should I check on the speakers? The stock speaker and HU sounds better with heavier bass but with the new HU its like totally no bass at all no matter how I tune them. sad.gif

Yup, if the job are done properly(settings and wirings) it will sound decent....
The polarity of the speakers is something you can check, follow by settings in your HU.....

^For your info, I don't have any shop, but as a part time speaker seller, just to make some kopi C money and to have good deals when I want to change my speakers....
Sometimes I'll be the installer also and charge them a lunch....
From my 10 years journey in ICE, all sorts of dirty tricks I already seen where change the speaker polarity or set the bass higher to tweeter is the most common way I came accross.....
To know if is the polarity problem, it is quite easy.... If can't just swap the wire and test lor..... Simple as ABC.....

^See, that's why I like acc shops at any 1 time.... You can run your tweeters and speakers without amp, except subwoofer which you need more power....
Speaker outputs from HU(which have an amp also) will sound better than those local chicken brand amps.... Why would you want to waste money to make your sound system sound bad?

In other sense, I respect mr. wong at any 1 time compare to them.... At least he won't ask people to buy those paper wrap chicken stuffs.... Can you agree with me on this?

Yup, if the job are done properly(settings and wirings) it will sound decent....
The polarity of the speakers is something you can check, follow by settings in your HU.....
*
Bro.
I got no idea how to check the settings on the HU. Currently I am using the SONY CDX-GT300MP. Any idea how to work on it ? smile.gif

Get your manual handy or download from the above link.....
Then go to page 11, with your HU is on "off", try to get the below option :
SUB/REAR*1
To switch the audio output.
– “SUB-OUT” (z): to output to a subwoofer.
– “REAR-OUT”: to output to a power amplifier.
Make sure it is on "REAR-OUT"....
Then see how it goes....

You mean this? Price wise should be ok...... Considering the low FS value it has..... But this will be the setback if the first owner abuse it by playing it at lower frequencies range.....
New from US cost about rm450, so you decide..... Getting Vifa won't be wrong at any 1 time.....

Added on June 15, 2011, 2:42 pmAnd just to let you know, Alpine type-X components set also using VIfa(but specially made for Alpine)......

For me, change HU, add a pair of tweeters and keep the stock speakers.... Less damage and you will be surprise with the results.... Pioneer 6350SD will be the best bang for buck HU(rm500)...
You can change to component set also, but you will ended up spend more(adding amp because lack of bass, RCA, power cable)......
Is upto your budget....

@kyheng - I have tried to look for the setup option that you mentioned earlier and it seems that its not available when I am scrolling around. I only managed to turn on the loudness which makes it sound slightly better.

But I came across 2 options which is the HFD and LFD where you can manually adjust the hertz value or totally turn it Off. Anything else I can work on that ?

If you are referring to the clock setting and others, it seems that the way I do it just now can adjust the clock as well. Hmm .. nvm I will try it again later inside the car. By the way, after consulting my partner he mentioned that it might be the connection in between the speaker and the player is opposite causing the polarity. Coz the sound effect is very stuffy and feel like no bass even after turning on the loudness option.

if you still plan to upgrade etc, you really are wasting a lot of money right now lol

visaton tweeter definitely worth than cap ayam product bro...
go google it and you will see reviews from overseas...
its actually making home audio speaker, so not so famous in car audio world
but a quality stuff its always a quality stuff regardless where you install it biggrin.gif

I always suggest HU... as for midbass, don't think about it first...
Lets see whats the result with tweeter and hu first... thumbup.gif

havent had the time to read the whole thread on your budget and whatever relevant...

but... if pioneer 6350 is your current HU on the list and you are still planning on making your ICE better later...

i would say (i know its harsh... but i am sleepy but the rain just bugs my sleep... ), you are wasting your time and money with a pioneer 6350... smile.gif

^Friend, I know this will be very harsh also, if a LYN forumer don't buy paper wrap chicken ICE from highly recommended ICE shop from acc shop operators here means waste money, I can't think of the logic on this wor.......
I've heard a rm9++ sound system sounds better than a rm4+++ sound system.....

@kyheng - Tried with the way you ask me to do but still can't find the option to configure the output to REAR. Sigh ~ at least slightly better now. Will try to switch the + / - panel on the rear speakers and see will it helps.

Nolah, just only some acc shop operators lost 1 potential customer..... Just imagine you got a nice drumstick come near to your mouth and suddenly people take it from you, what will happen?
If I were to suggest someone here to buy 8350, then 8350 will be the low quality HU.....

I don't know how to say about this, but for this year Pioneer HU lineups, 5-band EQ is the best they can offer. Even the 9350 no IP-Bus control and just only OEL...... If were to compare like this, I'll say 6350 above average, haha..... This makes me missed my 7750 so much.....

Nolah, just only some acc shop operators lost 1 potential customer..... Just imagine you got a nice drumstick come near to your mouth and suddenly people take it from you, what will happen?
If I were to suggest someone here to buy 8350, then 8350 will be the low quality HU.....

pioneer mass market units from the 3x50 till the 7x50 series shares the same thing... its just the matter of functions... if i were to buy any of these,

i forget about looking at
1. 3 pairs RCA
2. EQ

reason is, if you are going for "Keep It Simple and Stupid" (KISS) setup... the most you need is 2 pre out. one front one rear/sub... the extra pre-out you paid for, not gonna use it anytime...

if you are going active. you're gonna need to buy a external e-xover... cheap ones offers 3 RCA inputs, selectable to 1. so you only need one... high-ends like Trutech F1, KEF6 all only offers 1 input... so you only need 1 RCA output from your HU... 2 others, paid but unused.

EQ part... for all the pioneer EQ along these range i have used... they normally are just crappy... most of the time... without using them sounds better than actually using them...

and power wise to drive your component sets... all HU are basically the same... the HU is not above average compared among themselves... in actual fact... a lot of OEM HU sounds better than them... my experience, Honda city's, Preodua Kancil, a lot of Ford's... and etc... they get crappier sound after changing their HU given the hope is the HU makes sound - livelier... smile.gif

so... you pay more for not using the things that you paid for... so i suggest you look into a HU that basically offers your basic needs. save that extra hundred bucks or two...

cheers.gif

Yup, human error... Because the best way is to wrap the RCA's ground to the HU's chasis..... And somehow accident happens.....

aiya... used to it already la...

if i havent open the HUs, i wont be writing them up... pioneer are just too common to source and to open up to awe at the circuit board...

like when its discussion about mc, brax, ... i never join in... because i know nuts about them... i dont know what are the difference between the 3x to 7x series... i dont mind the pros to point it out what i have missed... but dont tell me there are more micro-p/ROM/IC to process the "functions"...

some low-on-business-and-trying-to-survive installer will always say other shop not good... his one is international standard... good installer why wan to scare so much... ICErs just come to them eventually... brows.gif

and bro kyheng... my position and your position now is actually no difference... you are a hobbyist ICEr who occasionally does installs for another hobbyist, so do i... problem is, you sell speakers... i dont sell any ICE stuff...

so if i am a conman as you said, what makes you so different than I am? chew and digest that before you write another reply... icon_rolleyes.gif

Well, the main difference between you and me(if both of us are conen) is I will advise others to change the least equipments while you advise others to change as much as possible.... At least I won't say a Pioneer HU are crap unlike you.... As the most I can con others for rm1++ but you want people waste few hundreds to buy crap paper wrap chicken products. When both of our results ended up with failure, who cause more damage?
Is there any difference? Well, I'll let others be the judge.
Most of the time Pioneer have certain models sharing the same DAC, but does not means it will be the same. If 2 particular model that are identical, the service manual will state clearly on this. Attachments I provided are the best example....
So again, grape that you can't eat does not means it is sour.....

if you do read... which i hope you do...

i suggested not to change the HU... never said anything about changing to a high end HU... i even suggested using back the stock HU as some stock HU are good to start with... so you are the conman... not me...

and the attachment... if you are only going to attach some files and claim that i am wrong in everything... at least explain where am i wrong... i would be happy to learn... other wise, it just looks like a struggle to gain reputations around here... or as the southern people would say, kia su... smile.gif

so back to you... grape that you cant eat, doesnt mean its sour... icon_rolleyes.gif

@kyheng - finally settle with my ICE setup already. Yes,indeed they admit that the connection of the rear speaker is wrong causing polarity issue with it. In the end, I change the entire speaker system for the rear and the side door ones with crossfader and tweeter. smile.gif

COD with Kyheng on last Friday night. i got a pair of Visaton tweeter from him and replace my rm400++ component set's tweeter using back the passive crossover. With this 1/2" small tweeter, i have a great improvement on hi-range, very clear, clean and crispy sound now. On pair with my younger brother's MBQuart, i think will be better after run-in.

Bro, thanks for your recommendation and i saved the money for buying new component set, change head unit and adding amplifier for pumping the speakers.

That's some junk..... Don't ever waste money on those.... In the AV show, there's just too much of such junks being sold....
And for this particualr junk, their showroom that display speakers(some JVC mini compo) have no seats for you. And the speaker are using cone type speakers, which is really direction dependent(speaker shoot directly to your face only nice). Without chairs, you have to stand and listen. So, it won't sound nice. By adding the plastic block provided, it actually change the speaker angle, which shooting towards you, so it will sound nicer....

As for ken988's, yes, just change the tweeter and the midbass still the same.... My concept is, KISS. Spend less to get the best out of stock system....

HI all ICE and car audio sifus... need some recommendations here.

My stock Blaupunk cassette player on my Iswara is dead. I'm looking at some recommendations on decent (not too bad) HU range probably around RM300-450.

try it yourself and see if it satisfies your need...i have tried before and I find the SQ decent... smile.gif
you can always install the component set first...and if it's not good enough...then you can add the amp...

right?

I am thinking to attach a component set to the front of my Persona, keeping the rear speakers and HU on stock unit. I don't plan to include an amp. How will the SQ be like, well I expect it to be at least better than the stock speakers as it really lack of treble. As long as the new setup can deliver more clarity and deeper bass then I am satisfied.

i'd suggest you try to find a demo set and then audit urself and see if the sound characteristic suits your need...

How much is the RF? No point ask so much tehn find out its a fake. RF more known for boom boom, so if you like that then go for it. Online review is about as subjective as can be. Specs is almost usless in ICE.
If your accessory shop got a good range, they should allow you to wire it up to test and upgrade if you dun like it. But have to take something la at the end of the day.
