Working in owner/end user company always easy compare to contracter and consultant, if EM hire me I'll definitely go regardless of the working location

Thats what I heard but will never believe in those until I get the feel of it myself especially when its in Singapore - the kiasuland with foreigners from all over the world like India. I don't know what their mentality is like. Tough.

Something to share with everyone, touching the topic about Singapore earning to spending ratio in comparison to Malaysia, particularly.

http://hantulautan.blogspot.com/2011/04/ma...r-spending.html

Those that have been living there, what do you think? I still think food and public transport cost is cheaper in Singapore. However, the rent as many had mentioned is incredibly high there. If its not because of the currency exchange rate, I would have worked in Malaysia. Its difficult to get a one to one pay in Singapore. I could have earned more but save less if I stay in Malaysia.

Another option which what I did when I first came to work in SG.  I rented a hotel room in JB for the weekend (Sat-Sun).  On Saturday morning, I went into SG and got myself the Straits Times.  Look at the rental section and started calling.  I know it's a pain but I managed to get my room that way.  Relying on the internet is fine but I think this is one effective but I do waste a lot of time.  Sometimes, when you call up the agent, they will tell you that there is a room that just vacated and it is not even advertised.  I have gone through Yishun, AMK, Bishan, Toa Payoh before I found one in Bishan previously and this room is not even advertised yet.  I drove in during the weekend and a GPS is really helpful when you are not familiar with the roads in SG.

I think Jobstreet's salary is based on everything added up (like CPF + Leaves, etc etc).  The salary in there is way too high to obtain even for my Singaporean friends.  Not sure where they obtain the data from.  My theory is that since they are in the advertising jobs business, probably a higher salary would makes people jumpship?

What do you guys think of the Singapore job market currently?
*
I think for my job, the salary posted in Jobstreet is ridiculously LOW. Look at the data that they use to generate the average value. One engineer manager, at age 54, earning $3,500 pm, although he only has diploma but with the sort of age and title should be getting at least three times more. Even back 10 years ago, the salary isnt that low. The more I view the data, the more absurd i feel they are. If you analyse the table properly the maximum value for a non -executive (I would take that as a technician job) salary is 60% of the max salary of a manager! Who needs to study and work so hard anymore if a non executive takes home such a worthy pay. I believe that there are many false data used, inconsistency in comparing the pay for different levels (perhaps over time is included in the non executive salary etc).

My personal data mining exercise yielded 4.5 months, 13 days and 6.2 hours. Less than 3 hours difference, but still significant. Mainly due to the fact that male job changers who were born before June 30th were waiting until after lunch hour to hand in their resignations, the exception being vegetarians who handed in their resignations before leaving for lunch. My preliminary conclusion of this phenomenon is that this was due to their blood glucose levels dropping below 34.2 parts per million by 11.34am:30s, affecting their short term right brain memory. In short they would forget to hand in their resignations altogether if they didn't do it before lunch.

Oops...I meant SGD500...I suppose this is reasonable as I saw some as low as SGD350. I don't mind if it's small, as long as safe and clean. Which area would you all recommend? I really don't know where to start.

I wana ask, if i havent get the Degree cert from uni yet, can I apply for the EP?
Normally what are the documents needed to apply for EP?

Bcz the answer obtained from MOM is quite inconsistant.
*
In the form, you will asked to fill in the highest qualification that you currently have and submit the certification as a proof.

Hi All.

Recently I found myself a room, directly frm owner,no agent involved.
I hv paid deposit,I request to sign da tenancy agreement in black n white.
She rplied sayin she wil get da lawyer to come out wiv da letter but she nid my epass n ic to be emailed to her.
When I asked if she is makin it contractual say 3 to 6mths,she said no stamp duty wil be on agreement, means?
N oso..izzit safe to disclose my epass jz liddat?Hmmm..
Pls shed sum lights..tq
*
Its just for identification purposes. I doubt it will cause any problem. You are just giving her a copy.
You need E pass to open bank account, to set up ur post paid mobile account, show agents require proof of work permit , so its really common to give out such details.

No idea about stamp duty though.

bro...tenant need to bear the tenancy agreement fees / stamp duty??
or wholely bear by landlord?  notworthy.gif

OK, i don't know exactly what is stamp duty.
But, from my experience, if I rent out a place say a house, I will get a lawyer to draft out a tenancy agreement for me and the tenants. So by right I should be paying the fee instead of the tenant.

I am renting directly from an owner but wasnt charge any agreement fees/stamp duty because he couldnt be bothered to create one. I am a bit vulnerable in that case because I might be exposed to unreasonable rise in rent or might just be kicked out of the house with no good reason.

How much is he expecting you to pay for that? I fele its similar to an agent fee. We pay the agent to organise the viewing and some say the agent protects us (tenants) from the above cases. So instead of paying the agent fee, u are paying the tenancy agreement fee/stamp duty ..thats all. Bear in mind, the agent fee is 1/2 months rent

I have experienced before , landlords creating their own tenancy agreement statement. If you think about it, its very simple, all you need is to copy a template from the internet and adjust it accordingly. By right, it should serve wel enough for this purpose. But in the eyes of law, I am sure too sure whether this will be useful in court,, if anything happens. You need to ask a lawyer.

Hi guys,

Hw do i apply for da EP card? Cos my employer only email me the Epass, datz all. They nvr mention abt da EP card?
Is there any fast lane wiv dat EP card holder while goin thru immigration?
*
EP is your employment pass. That is a type of permit for employees earning above certain amount of wage.
I dont know what an Epass is, it sounds like EP to me? The pass is usually applied by your company through Ministry of Manpower of singapore or known as MOM. I believe there are fast lanes through immigration for singaporeans, PR and people with work permit.

You should have the IPA which is the In principle approval letter which is normally send to you before you start working in Singapore. Once you start working, you will then need to inform your HR so that an appointment can be arranged for you to go to MOM ( or specifically work permit office ) to submit the IPA, and other required documents to process the EP card. You then return to the same office in a few days time to collect the EP card. Remember to keep your emigresen pass if you are foreigner and pass it to your HR. They will need it to book your appointment with the MOM office. You should also update your HR is you have a new residential address.

Its always good to consult your HR to know the process in advance.
