Unfortunately, nothing much to report. Skies have been pretty bad.

Just something of interest, comet(s) 73P/SW has crossed the space directly between us and the sun and will now start to appear just before dawn, but the fragments are much further away compared to last month, so more difficult to observe even though they will rise earlier as time goes by.

I'm sorry to say I still cannot locate the StarHunters' business card. Can anybody else help?

I can only find the Star-finders Assosciation contact. But this is a Selangor/KL group, so may not be much help to you guys in Johore.

Nevermind, it will help though. By the way, the skies this weeks are really encouraging! I gonna do my observation now. biggrin.gif

Do you know the person who wins the America Young Amateur Astronomer Award is a girl? It's really wonderful that men don't dominate this territory. laugh.gif

I wonder if she'll turn out to be like the Heroine in Carl Sagan's `Contact'?

Hehe, I just went to your blog and guess what I saw?
You have a link to Carl Sagan! Check out SETI and the Planetary Society......
The story (and the movie) `Contact' is about a female Astronomer (played by 2 time Oscar Winner Ms Jodie Foster) who works with SETI and had to overcome all sorts of sexual discrimination......ah, you must get a copy of this movie and watch it.

BTW as a side interest, Ms Foster came to Penang in 1999 to act in the blockbuster `Anna and the King' (another screen adaptation of `the King and I') together with Chow Yun-Fat!

Contact is a movie about a young avid Astronomer who lost her dad at an early age. Her mom had already died when she was a baby and she was always told by her dad that she was in heaven above(At the stars I guess). She went on to become a leading researcher with S.E.T.I(I think so) about contacting civilisations from the stars or gathering messages from them. Turned out she got a reply one day. I only remember it vaguely. Have to watch it again. Try to catch the movie. I really loved it.

To me one of the most memorable phrases in the movie came when the the young Ellie Arroway asked her dad whether there were people on other planets, and he replied `...if it's just us, that'll be an aweful waste of space...'
Strangely most people only remember that Ellie said it. Actually she only repeated her dad's phrase at the end of the story to her class of young budding astronomers....but I suppose she did say it better.

HAHA laugh.gif , How'd you know??

Cool, a Tarantula named Nebula. Too bad I can't obtain it and keep in an aquarium so I can stare at it at night. Can a telescope like MR.LKM's catch a glimpse of this?

Mr.LKM, you'll have to worm it out of him. Don't show him this Nebula unless he gives you at least one fat juicy secret.

Yup. It'll be an odd club... but hopefully one that can expand..... thumbup.gif

Oh kewl, you getting a smithi? Yeah its good for a newbie. Come join the discussions in the Tarantula thread over at pets wonderland. You can learn a lot from the keepers there. Normally once you pop, you can't stop...

BTW I will be attending a gathering this coming Saturday in KL where all the Tarantula Keepers from LYN will be present. The gathering is at Ming Tin Foodcourt near Kelana Jaya LRT station on 10/06 at 2PM.
