arc - 4.2" FWVGA backlit-LED screen , reality display [sony mobile bravia engine]...
official 2.3, use 1ghz snappydragon single core like DHD, Incredible S..
got HDMI port [the cable might(or not)included in accessories]
sgs- 4" WVGA Super AMOLED screen, upgradeable to 2.3, 1ghz hummingbird which got better graphic...but actually snappydragon oledi good enough

currently, dual core just somewhat overpowered, mostly single core is good & fast enough...so its not necessary to concern whether its a duo or not..

u better go some shop to try out the phones..if 4.2" still doesn't get u comfortable enough..u really nid to consider some tablets like ASUS Eee pad transformer, acer iconia, moto xoom, bb playbook, ipad 2 etc.

my fren got 1k budget, he can pick samsung galaxy ace [HVGA] / Acer liquid metal [WVGA]
i dunno why would he end up picking SGA, as i always told him that some apps/games will be limited due to low reso & WVGA can nearly runs 99% of them...
and ALM has better spec than it as well..
now he regretted, he cant play lots of game which he wanted to like HAWX, bla bla bla... even can play asphalt 5 but is somewhat laggy...

Flash contents such as your facebook games [Restaurant City, Country story etc.] & youtube videos[though u got a youtube apps to do this but other flash video is non youtube, then u hancur]...

SGS & Nexus S both are hummingbirdy with super AMOLED & S-OFF
hummingbird got better graphic, super amoled is superior than S-LCD

HTC IS is an all-rounder phone, its good to go without needed to tweak, perma-rooting etc., yea its a S-OFF device, u cant really permaroot it unless u decide to void the warranty by applying XTC Clip
S-LCD, Snappydragon single core, 8mp camera with dual flash+hd video

if build quality? obviously is DEFY...but with SGS, u just get a hard casing & the problem is fixed
u can even swim with it & record video though...
but the specs are quite outdated...

i think is sgs2 with the exynos

i dunno read where that HTC will stop shipping the ones with bootloader thingy liao..but apparently those older one are still locked??

Because MEGAPIXELS not really matters when it comes to quality
MEGAPIXELS just the definition for the picture how big it going to be...
of course, the bigger picture has more details

but quality is comes from the camera lens optic...
iphone 4 uses OmniVision lens though & O2X is unknown lens, unless LG use back their previous cameraphone lens, the Schneider-Kreuznach optics...which is quite nice...
used in some old hot models like KM900 Arena, KU990 Viewty, GC900 Viewty Smart etc.

dual core is somewhat overpowered for currently, as single core like HTC IS, DHD.. SGS... is good & quick enough...
and somehow currently O2X got lots of issue, you probably heard at least 1 or 2 of those like the common yellow tint thing etc.

btw, did consider the Huawei IDEOS X5? which got Desire Z processor, WVGA screen, 2.2 with full flash support+multi-touch in just 8xx ori

if u get sgs, the stock software not good enough which is commonly heard for the lagging buggy/GPS issues
but the SGS got pretty good music chip & Hummingbird processor has better graphics comparing to single cores...

desire S is quite like the incredible S but with smaller screen & lower MP (weaker) camera?
you don't really nid to mod any part of the phone, it already good enough
HTC Sense for GPS is very nice, you dont really need to wait the map to load as you already got the map in ur phone & u got built in compass on the map

well, of coz if u can get incredible S AP in this price, get it instead of desire S (unless personal preference la )

anyway, you better go to try the phone urself & see whether you like it or not...

u can simply overclock the clockspeed, fix the GPS problem if you followed the instruction, you definitely wont brick the phone

lets said SE Vivaz, it costs 700~ now, but when the time it shines, which is at least 1.1k
just because of the SE abandon Symbian & stop giving future update, its all gone, u can significantly c its price drop slowly, in two months, it gone to like below 800~900..

b4 Symbian ^3, vivaz is probably the top phone for symbians

SE W8? when it release, i think the price will as low like galaxy mini those low ends...
despite its Walkman features, the OS is so outdated

SGS vs Nexus S is like an all-time question

both phone are good out of the box, no big problem/issue needed to tweak/custom to fix unlike the SGS...

both are pretty good all rounder phone..
HTC IS got HTC Sense UI which is most favorable by most ppl currently, good build quality, decent display/camera
cons is got locked bootloader but the new wave of them will be unlocked after HTC see how the bootloader affected their sales

the new XPERIAs are like facebook phone, the UI is pretty much integrated with facebook..
nice slim design, best camera in android & low light display, among the best display (reality display)
