I saw Red Box is in the list, but the last few times I went to Penang RedBox they doesn't seem to accept Amex... can anyone confirm this? How about in KL?

Just wanna share, made a purchase at Viewnet again today and had a little chat with the staff about Amex. I told him that Maybank2Amex gives 5% cashback during the weekend and he said 'ya la but they charge us 3%. Mastercard and Visa charge around 1.8% only'. So I remarked, do you want me to use a Visa instead? Not that I was really going to, just testing him. He said no problem it's okay.
The fellow also gave me discount despite using a CC.

You must be lucky dude. I wanted to use Amex at Viewnet on Saturday when I bought my new rig, they didn't let me use Amex. And to make things worse I heard the Boss (at least I assume he was) lecturing his staff to not accept Amex from me and to just tell me the machine is spoiled. True enough the staff came back and told me that the machine was spoiled. The price they gave me was really good so I turned a blind eye and used my Visa instead.

I guess what you mentioned there is one of the main reasons they are reluctant to use Amex. But I mean why even bother offering the Amex service then. Their dishonesty will probably make me think twice now about going back there unless they can give a real attractive price.

Anyway point here is sometimes shops may advertise that they accept Amex cards but in actual fact they don't.

This was what I faced... not sure if we can complaint... when more users use Amex, then i feel there might be merchant will will give stupid reason say machine is out or cannot use...

Glad Sounds also had a Amex sticker/plate at their door but cant use,after 2 tries and later told me their machine just changed . haiz.. i wanted to say if cant use it pls remove the sticker as not to mislead customers but just walk away

why would AMex cont to charge their service more expensive? and make it the least favorite card to be accepted by merchants?

I also experienced such awkward occasion before.

Well ... AMEX used to be far worst a couple of years back. They used to be charging 5% per transaction vs. the current rate.

Unfortunately, it would seem to be insufficient to beat Mastercard/VISA current rates.

Uhm, then I need to report that Shell Petrol Station opposite Taman Midah does not accept AMEX. Even the attendant says that AMEX is not acceptable anymore
