Rule of thumb: If its too good to be true, it probably is

Try to contact the seller via wangwang, see if he's gonna tell you why his stuff is so cheap. If he's shitting you, then move along.

Yeah, i know.. coz was plucking the switch cap but broke 1 leg to hold the spring and switch..
using 7G blaack switches.. coz i see online they take out kinda easy so do some experiment on uselss keys on my keyboard.. haha..

Without desoldering on a Plate mounted board you want to pull a swtich? Brave.
The videos are demoed on PCB mounted boards, where changing the spring/stem is much easier.

razer bw no match for dt35, much larger force needed to press bw compared to dt35

Maybe you should start your own DT35 Fanclub and stop threadcrapping here

lul wuts wif the hatin'? most of the dt35 users here at least owns or owned a mech kb b4 and arn't blind consumers. and of course, who doesnt know BWU sucks.  nod.gif

i heard at least half a dozen of ppl throw away SS 7g or BWU for dt 35.

FTFY. (most users here own Mech keyboards, but they don't necessarily own DT35)
*
The BW, is a decent keyboard for its price, a starter Mech Keyboard I'd say. But thats not the point of the discussion, and some people do disagree.

Comparing switches then proceed to tell which one is better is an opinion, not a fact. I like using my Model M, and i do enjoy brown switches. Model M are heavier than brown switches, thats a fact. But I can't say which one is better either, but if you make me choose, I'd choose the brown for it's noise qualities, but that is my opinion.

Some people may say not all brown switch keyboard are made the same. Try comparing plate mounted vs PCB mounted. I have a plastic plate mounted ALPS keyboard and the feeling is definitely different

And I had a friend telling me his MX browns sucks and proceed to use the apple aluminium keyboard. So what? He doesn't appreciate it, let him be.
But I digress, the point in this thread is to discuss Mech Keyboards. So what if users here own DT35. I don't see people here talking about clothes, since all of us wear clothes. Nothing wrong with comparing Domes vs Mech switches, but spreading Dome love in here, a cheap one at that, maybe you two DT35 lovers should go spread it in them /Gaming Keyboards/ or start your own fanclub

wa.. suddenly got flame.

btw.. how true is it that black switches are silent. Are they really much quieter compared to the other switches? blue switches are the noisiest right? I see my friend typing on the BWU..it's pretty loud, and the key placements are abit weird.

Before today i was still considering between 6GV2 (RM340)and BW expert.(RM270),
but I'm leaning towards the 6GV2 now..
I'm pretty budget conscious right now. Will I really be impressed with the 6GV2 over the BWE? It will be my first mech keyboard, but i want it to really suit me..

pretty hardcore gamer, from FPS to RTS to RPGS, but mostly FPS.

I saw some Filcos and others, and I read the first post, but which switch do you all find the most adaptable and comfortable?
*
Like cyclone said, you need to try them to tell which one you will like.
Black switches, when you are mashing away the keys on the board, would not be so silent compared to domes, if you are basing the silence on that.
Why not use you're friend's BWU for a few rounds and see if you like that. If you do, then jump in, and pull the trigger. Otherwise go try the SS 6GV2.

You could probably try them browns at Lowyat, on the FILCO, but admittedly those are on the upper end of your budget. Read back few posts and you'll see that the Tenkeyless board went for RM390. Unless you absolutely must have a numpad, that's a pretty decent price for a FILCO.

If you must have reds/clears if you want these, you'd need to import, for the time being anyway.

Your keycaps looked pretty used up, moving anytime soon to KBC PBTs?
Are those switches from storm88?, nevermind, it is indeed from Storm

Just need to desolder everything and change.
Taking MX switches out is not that hard compared to ALPS switches. I desoldered my AT101W with black ALPS, took me a quite a while to do that, and in the process, damaged a few PCB traces

I finished my soldering and desoldering in 30 minutes.. so wont be long to do all these.. icon_rolleyes.gif

Nice
It took me quite fast to desolder these switches, but taking them out was a real pain due to the solder still sticking to the traces. Any pointers on that?

please wait, i'll send a mail to them and wait for them to respond.
to you have a solder sucker? they are good in removing any leftover solders.

QUOTE(StratOS @ Jun 9 2011, 08:25 PM)
You did use a desoldering pump to suck up the melted metal solder right?
*
Yes and Yes, a brand new one at that. Prolly need some metal braid to go with the residual solder stuck between the pin and the side of hole
Maybe my skills are just not up to par, practice makes perfect.

My next mod is probably on a plate mounted one for ergo clears, no soldering iron needed.

Yea, maybe some more practice.. haha.. but i know when you solder and wanna solder it nicely, you can use the soldering paste flux to help your heating gun..

It will remove the dried and burnt solder on the tip to make a cleaner solder and better solder..
refer to my pic, theres a oil paste at the side.. RM3 only.. can last for years soldering stuff..
*
Yeap, and I thought those solders with flux built in are enough. Also, I realized the MX switches are easier to deolsder due to the straight pins.
My fraustration came from them ALPS switches where the pins are bent before they are soldered on, making them hard to desolder.

Anyway, your 6gv2 mod, any reason why you layout this way? Or you did it for teh lulz?

Basically resoldering a new controller into it.

The controller is sufrace mount type, so I reckon it is quite challenging to solder it on. Maybe you can pay someone to do it.

Sending a parcel that is 2KG to china cost RM62.40 so says the pos malaysia website.
You can insure it at Rm1.50 per Rm100 value of your item, so shipping it back cost about RM70~
Shipping it back via agent is another RM40?

For that price of RM100, minus some for the postage fees to ship the controller to Malaysia, you could probably save some time and money by paying someone else to solder it for you, as another option. But since you insist on sending it back, then get the item insured, and it should be alright, though Pos Malaysia + China Post might end up taking a rather long time

Fuyoo. We can start V3 soon. Anyway, was thinking if there was a company that made laptops with mechanical switches, I'd so buy it. Sadly, its not possible at all.

Stick a Cherry G84 on top of your laptop keyboard then

You can actually close it now. Just one more post to go.

@Cyclone, maybe you can consider putting it up at GH and see who wants to bite the Leopold
