@g3n0c|d3: Is there any difference in sound quality when you pair your CLAS with your iPod video and iPhone 4? Which do you prefer SQ wise? I'm thinking of getting an iDevice just for the CLAS in the future. Also, how does your CLAS rig compare to your stepdance?

for ipod video and iphone 4: i cant compare them.... my ipod video went haywire everytime i tried connecting it with ipod video... ive read that u can connect to ipod video but it'll turn to ipod shuffle... and i rockbox my ipod video anyways...


as for comparism with stepdance.... im not sure what is the question is since CLAS itself is a DAC for idevice...

lets put it this way:
iphone 4+stepdance+CK1100 = soundstange feels big, music separation are more distinctive, bass are tight and punchier, alot of details opening up and can be heard clearly.

iphone 4+CLAS+Stepdance+CK100 = soundstage feel humongous, instrument separation are way-way better in terms of tightness and imaging. bass are tighter than stepdance alone combo. The detail of the songs is what makes this CLAS so freaking beast. i mean i could hear alot of things i thought i couldnt with stepdance, but as i listen to the most of the song, my jaw dropped because on the insane detail that have in that recording that i did not notice (or barely notice) was there.... its really clean all the way... mono will sound sweeter and more live like than stepdance alone.

that's roughly what i can say about the combination...

Thanks for the input. That's what I mean.. iphone 4+stepdance+IEM of choice VS iphone 4+CLAS+Stepdance+IEM of choice, should have put it this way when asking my question. I'm just wondering if the upgrade to CLAS is worth the money and judging from your impression it sounds like money well spent

by the way, how do you compare the internal dac of CLAS to other dac? is it comparable to, say..gamma2?

im not sure since ken(ALO Audio) and vinnie (RWA) a bit reluctant to give the full info about the internals, so i dont know how to compare... beside im not good at schematics reading lol..

i wasn't asking about internal specifications. i just simply asked how good is the DAC section compared to other DAC you have tried?

you don't need to know any specs to find that out, do you? sorry if my previous question impressed you the other way around

honestly speaking.. this is the 1st DAC i tried. and i like it.

so cant give any thoughts about other DAC.

nice USB LOD.. i sent my ipod cable to jaben for modding too.. actually i'm looking for something really slim and low profile.. not sure how it'll look like..

to me digital transfer theoretically will not make much different with different cable grades.. but then again, i should listen and judge.. for now, i just need something really low profile cause my rig has cables coming out both ends! i'm trying to reroute the cables to be only at one side.. see how la..

anyways CLAS is said to have about the same performance as centrance dacport or even better.. still not as nice as larvy but close enough.. but then again, i can't judge cause i don't have either one...

one thing i really like about CLAS is that it makes low bit rate songs sound good.. i heard its about the ability of reclocking or smth that helps with this... i can actually enjoy streaming 129kbps internet radio with CLAS.. sounds good indeed

only problem now is battery life of my ipod drains faster.. you guys know about those external battery cases for iphone? eg mophie juice pack? i wonder if it is able to connect with the CLAS.. should be able to according to logic lol..

would you be kind enough to quote me the link to prove your statement? if it is comparable to dacport, it must be very good, at least as good as gamma2. it means you have gamma2 on the go, without the need of power supply! awesome..

i wont say it turns a bad mp3 sounds to good.... but listenable enough.

not necessarily..but yeah, you can hear the differences when you compare between well ripped 320kbps files and .flac files with a good DAC. not to mention. 320kbps vs .wav

please note i didn't say 320kbps files sound bad on DAC, but you WILL hear the difference when it is compared to higher quality file. given a decent setup as well..not to mention the 'bad sound' tolerance is not the same for everybody

i agreed. other people define bad sound in their own terms. so to sum up, in my inexperience time listening to the CLAS, bad recordings will be bad no matter how good ur setup is, even with CLAS but undeniably its listenable compare with pairing with amp or no amp at all...
