QUOTE(fruitie @ May 7 2011, 09:32 PM) Thanks, just wondering if it is upgradeable to 8GB RAM? I might do it later when the warranty expires. Any amount of RAM more than 4GB is useless on a 32-bit OS. You need to get a 64-bit OS and the hardware can support 8GB.Dell allows customisation up to 6GB which I have no intention to upgrade to 6GB now. Oh no. I'm supposed to carry my company laptop when I'm back to my hometown, now I'm not sure if I should. Plus all my photography stuffs, I have to carry a backpack that weighs more than 10KG. Well, if you want something lighter, you could get a 12" subnotebook. Added on May 7, 2011, 9:41 pm QUOTE(YiCheng @ May 7 2011, 09:36 PM) Actually not much. I write them because I think they will be the heaviest job for my future laptop to do. Not much gaming actually (just some mini games - eg Plant vs Zombie :S ) Check out this page:I just checked out the lowyat's price list and found no notebook with the specification was listed. Hope that I still can get it. http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1809427 This post has been edited by AlexLai: May 7 2011, 09:41 PM |

QUOTE(fruitie @ May 7 2011, 09:44 PM) Yes, I'll upgrade to 64-bit too when I upgrade to 8GB. 12" would be a good trade off though. I understand the pain sometimes when using a 10" screen and keyboard but you can't deny the portability of such a device. Thanks for the kind advice! I'm using a netbook now and I'm kind of suffering with the small size, luckily most of the time I'm using company laptop in office... QUOTE(JYong @ May 7 2011, 09:44 PM) Minimum sometimes also not very helpful and accurate. I can run CS5 on my older laptop no problem. |

QUOTE(fruitie @ May 7 2011, 09:51 PM) Yeah but 12" is quite pricey for Dell, maybe I haven't finished exploring yet. Would you prefer to explore other options besides Dell? Yes, the portability is really amazing but until iPad came into my life, my netbook remains static on my desk and iPad gets to go out from home everyday. |

QUOTE(fruitie @ May 7 2011, 10:07 PM) Thanks. Wow, what picky requirements. Or you have better specs for me? Parents are giving me 3k for laptop purchase and it is gonna last me for years, so I prefer to get something with better specs. Let me refine my requirement: 1) Preferably 12-14" 2) Long battery life 3) Light 4) 4GB RAM 5) At least 500GB 6) Of course fulfills the Photoshop and LightRoom with no lag. 7) Oh ya good LCD display 8) If possible with backlit keyboard For criteria no. 8, it would be hard to find one at that price point. But if you want better specs and fulfills all the criteria, I'd say your best bet would be either: TimelineX 4830TG, i5-2410M + GT540M@RM2499 U41Sv, i5-2410M + Nvidia GT540M@RM2899 U31Sd, i5-2410M + Nvidia GT520M@RM2999 |

QUOTE(PF T.J. @ May 7 2011, 10:25 PM) +1, those 3 are the best options~ Much lower specs though. Also not that light. Luckily it ain't glossy as hell.Backlit for under RM3k? Yes, there's the Toshiba Satellite M645 Added on May 7, 2011, 10:30 pm QUOTE(fruitie @ May 7 2011, 10:27 PM) Besides Acer and ASUS? Did ASUS improve its service? My friend had bad experience with their after-sales service. I never had much problems with their after-sale service. You may refer to my Flickr for my noobie shots. Picky eh? I didn't know that. For no.8, Vostro 3350 has. Vostro 3350 is also a viable pick, especially for the backlit keyboard. Problem is it would appear a bit weaker than the said models. QUOTE(fruitie @ May 7 2011, 10:36 PM) Alright, points noted! Erm... it has a bit of a dated look and hardware. Also not as portable and with a so so battery life.Expert your head. http://www.lelong.com.my/toshiba-l645-1090...1-11-Sale-P.htm Sorry for the Lelong link but need your advice, my friend went to LYP today to check out for me, he said this model is quite OK... But 320GB.. |

QUOTE(fruitie @ May 7 2011, 10:45 PM) My friend said that's the wrong spec.... Ooh, still the hardware is dated but the pricing is okay. But for that price, it would be better to get the Acer 4830TG instead. He is chatting with me on MSN now: i5 480 2.66 ghz with turbo boost up to 2.93 4gb 500GB HDD ati 5650 (RM 2299) Then there is another spec, everything is the same as above but turbo boost up to 3.2GHz. (RM 2549) Toshiba L645? |

Still love using headphones. Probably explains why I never spend more than RM100 for speakers but have several sets of quality headphones.

QUOTE(fruitie @ May 8 2011, 12:49 AM) I tried headphones but not my liking type, due to I have pierced my right ear (top) and the headphones just kepit it every time I put on. IEMs are still good, at least you don't sacrifice quality for comfort. So, changed to IEM. Not bad la to use the M3200 watching drama, cheap pulak tu. |

QUOTE(Koki @ May 8 2011, 12:57 AM) Eh, talking about headphones, anyone got the Neckband? Neckband is uncomfortable for prolonged use. It puts pressure on your ears in order to keep it on your head. Sound quality wise, nothing to shout about. High in treble, has more bass than the 5Hv2.Any comments? I'm using a 5Hv2 myself, just thought of surveying about the Neckband. And what type of external speakers you speak of? Choiix Boom Boom Speaker? |

Portal 2 runs on a highly optimized Source engine. I could play HL2 with a GMA x3100. Portal 2 should be no sweat for the HD3000.

I'm guessing it's all down to driver optimization. The then ATi HD3xxx times was still a bad time for ATi.

Most exciting would be the AMD Llano Fusion APU.
