One question, is the performance boost of the i7 noticeable compared to the i5?

Thinking of just getting the i5 17" instead of the i7 15".

Depends what's ur usage, some engineering softwares or rendering softwares would benefit from the quad cores.. Most games won't have much difference unless they're those console potted ones..

Since I'm not running those, I think i5 will be more than adequate for my use.

I'm looking for a laptop that I can use mainly for my programming. However, at the same time I wish to be able to multitask smoothly, between programming, gaming, music/vids, surfing internet, and other misc applications including chat messengers.
No acers please. smile.gif

Budget : 1-3k.
Any recommendations?

P.S. Long lasting battery is preferrable.

Not too big not too small, I'll be carrying it around campus as well as using it at home. But I certainly don't want a 13" or less.

Asus N53Sn, i7-2630QM + Nvidia GT550M@RM3299 [Bang & Olufsen]
The additional top up will be well worth it because of the much better GT550M GPU (assuming you're a demanding gamer) compared to the usual GT540M nod.gif

Past my budget. I decided that it has to be less than 3k. Cant afford one past that. =\

Any cheaper suggestion? (I don't mind lowering graphix for games)

Well, depending on whether you prefer processing power or graphic power more,
15 inchers (excluding Acer 5750G):
Asus N53Sv, i5-2410M + Nvidia GT540M@RM2799 [Bang & Olufsen] for graphic power,
Dell Inspiron 15R, i7-2630QM + Nvidia GT525M@RM2699 for processing power.

As for 14 inchers:
Asus A43Sv, i5-2410M + Nvidia GT540M@RM2599
Asus U41Sv, i5-2410M + Nvidia GT540M@RM2899

Here are some poison from Acer, you should at least take a look through them brows.gif
14 inch: TimelineX 4830TG, i5-2410M + GT540M@RM2499
15 inch: Aspire 5750G, i7-2630QM + Nvidia GT540M@RM2899

Thanx for the info.

Anyone heard of the new Alienware M14x?

And ...
1. Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
2. Windows 7 Professional 64bit
3. Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

Does it make a lot of difference between these 3 version?
