get this when my bro driving it around 180-200, his driving it like his civic. drove it around 1hour++

driving style shifting gears like mad babe~

but as i know for lancer, they will limit ur speed at 110 untill the warning sign goes off. then only can drive fast back~

though the warning sign came out, still my bro maintain at 160 then 140 for around 15mins, then the warning sigh never appear again later on eventhough for another 180-200 speed.

as i can say from this, well, proton did improve on the cvt cooling which is obviously better than lancer, but not completely. kinda shock when see this.

p/s:this will happen if u drive shifting lots of times during high speed i guess. b4 tis i never get this b4. salute my bro aka Gouki doh.gif doh.gif sweat.gif sweat.gif

Endless problems with his new car
Manufacturer says they are doing all they can
YAP AIK MENG
Thursday, March 4th, 2010 11:39:00
VIJAY of Kuala Lumpur claims his new Mitsubishi Lancer is problem-plagued and is unhappy with the after-sales service from the manufacturer and authorised dealer he bought the car from.

"Two days after collecting the car in June 2008, it broke down and I was told the gearbox had malfunctioned," he says, adding that the car was in the workshop for a month before it was repaired.

When his car reached 10,000km, he sent it for servicing at the appointed service centre and collected it back the same day.

"The very next morning, I saw smoke coming out from the engine compartment while driving," says VIJAY, adding that his car was towed to the nearest workshop.

"It seemed that the drain plug was missing, but the service centre did not want to accept responsibility for this."

VIJAY claims the manufacturer, Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia Sdn Bhd (MMM), voided the car's warranty because they found he had installed an anti-hijack system which was against one of the conditions of warranty.

He says he was forced to pay for the drain plug himself.

"Another problem was a loud noise from the engine and when this continued, there would be a signal in the car for me to slow down," says VIJAY.

"Initially, it happened only when I switched to manual mode, but subsequently it also occurred when on automatic mode within 15 to 20 minutes on the road."

He says the service centre told him that driving the vehicle fast, along with rapid gear-shifting, caused the problem and he was advised to drive slower.

"They told me to change the gear oil. I did this at my own expense but the problem persists to this day."

He says as a token of goodwill, MMM offered him additional free car servicing.

"Their former head of customer service indicated I could service my car at any of their authorised centres but when I tried to do so at one I had not been to before, I was told to service my car only at the EON Glenmarie service centre."

* A spokesperson for Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia Sdn Bhd says they have attended to VIJAY's various complaints about his car.

"When his vehicle broke down due to the gearbox, we immediately replaced his car's continuously variable transmission (CVT)," said the spokesperson.

"In August 2008, VIJAY's vehicle broke down again due to engine oil leakage. He said that no warning indication light came on, prior to the breakdown.

"During our investigation, it was discovered that he had installed an additional non-authorised accessory.

"Our service advisors requested VIJAY to remove the accessory for them to proceed with further investigations. He declined the request and we could not proceed.

"As a standard procedure, we told VIJAY in a written statement that his warranty was void because the vehicle's wiring was tampered with as a result of the installation."

The spokesperson says such warranty conditions are specified in their Service Booklet.

"Out of goodwill, three additional free services were extended to VIJAY, on top of his three-year or 50,000km free service package (at every 10,000km intervals) when he first purchased the vehicle." he says.

Last April, VIJAY returned to their authorised service centre and complained about a loud noise followed by a warning indication of overheating transmission oil. MMM technical personnel did a test drive with him to understand the cause of the problem.

"Our technical personnel observed and experienced the driving pattern of VIJAY which was at high speed complemented with rapid shifting of gears, and/or engine braking.

"As explained to him, the loud noise is a pre-warning indication of the CVT that it is working beyond its nominal specification, which means, the RPM (revolutions per minute) of the vehicle was approaching the maximum limit (red zone)," says the spokesperson.

"If the vehicle is continuously driven at this maximum RPM with rapid shifting of gears at high speed, the transmission fluid will increase in temperature, leading to the overheating of transmission oil."

The spokesperson pointed to this caution stated in the Owner's Manual: "Avoid shifting down at high speed, as this may cause excessive engine speed (the tachometer needle into the red zone) and damage the engine."

On VIJAY's concern about the additional free services offered, they recommend that he keep returning to the EON Glenmarie service centre as they had worked on the vehicle earlier and are familiar with its history.

The spokesperson says they regret any inconvenience caused to VIJAY.
