Would you kindly ask your CAAEM friend if my Part 1's accredited as my last year of Bsc Arch was done and graduated with high distinction in overseas LAM accredited university. Well despite my first two years are completed in LUCT and I reckon this is rather a RPL credit transfer as reflected in my transcript.

If not, it does seem unfair to me that diploma students with credit transfer are very well accredited when they graduated from LAM Part 1 accredited Bsc Arch programs. If that's the case, I might have to go to LAM's office in the break to resolve my Part 1 so I will not have much difficulties when I acquire my Part II two years later.

By the way, LUCT's advertisement that they are the only accredited program in Malaysia (by MQA I suppose) is highly misleading and inaccurate. If no one's going to sue them for that, I will. Seriously.

Azarimy,
If I happened to have to sit for Lam Part I examination, would you reckon that the assessed knowledge includes historical & theoretical knowledge? As in hand in hand with design proficiency and technical knowledge of architecture?

As I've understood that the whole syllabus and curriculum of Bsc Arch is assessed, I believe that the 'full portfolio' in this sense includes assignments related to drawing skills and building construction. Nevertheless, I would like to check that beforehand with you if you happen to know the process.

From what I know; the lecturers at LUCT are lenient. (Whether is that good or not is for one to decide.)

I have also paid a visit to LUCT as well, and the facilities looked "pretty good". (From my observation, perhaps the architecture & design facilities could even well be better than the "architecture & design facilities" in Taylor's new lakeside campus; which is unfortunately not that good in the first place IMHO...)

I do not know much about UCSI, although from what I know; it is certainly not a bad university for architecture.

Regards.

Being a previous architecture student at the LKW campus, I felt that I needed to mention a few things here. Describing lecturers there as lenient is perhaps not the right idea. There are certainly some design tutors that are determined and inspiring, and from what I have heard, they have been reinstated in the design unit (Curtin program not the B. Arch program). Facilities are adequate, but that is under par if one is to compare this to accredited public universities. Modelmaking materials and lasercutting facility is available around Cyberjaya, but be prepared to ask seniors for such guidance.

However, as the Curtin program and B.Arch program is quite separate, I will not comment upon the new course they have introduced. If you ask for my personal opinion, I will say that Limkokwing do not have enough determined and capable faculty personnels to run the new program.

On the other hand, I reckon Benjamin's outlook upon Taylor's program is quite judgmental, but again I will not recommend Limkokwing over Taylor's.

For LAM Part 1 examination on 28th February. They will conduct the interview on July and results will be announced within 2 weeks time.  This is based on my own experience.

So let me ask again, LAM Part I examination is conducted on 28 Feb?

I'm on my 3 months summer holiday. Do you have any nice architecture books to recommend? I'm trying to prepare myself for masters.

Just buy books on Pritzker architects. Don't buy the 'catalog' books, buy those that are authored by themselves. This way you'll learn the rationalisation and philosophy of their architecture; and enrich your own understanding and the development of your own architectural philosophy.

Be warned though, imitating those architects without substance is a big trap that most students fell unto.

For Part 3, read the two PAM Handbooks(don't know whether there are more now)  which is a compilation of papers by various practising architects/experts on the various aspects of professional practice and legislations. Watching the videos of the lectures would be useful. Do past year exam questions (like you do when you prepare for any other exams).

Why limit yourself to reading only about Pritzker award-winning Architects? They are good no doubt but they are only the selected few  over the last three decades. There are lots more great architects other than the Pritzker award winners.

Priztker-listed architects are acclaimed by the architectural profession themselves. There is a reason why they have been selected, they advance the knowledge of the profession and encapsulates the spirit of times, the zeitgeist for architecture if you will. I have no doubt there are a lot of other good architects compared to the list, but to study over thirty architects' philosophy is a great start to understand the various positions along the years. Certainly from such a massive body of knowledge in architecture, it is sometimes difficult to know where to begin.

I believe by reading them one will certainly find some architectural tendencies that click with oneself and from thereon discovering other similar architects / architecture that belong in the same canon. Nevertheless this does not mean the architectural position you have taken is the correct one in spite of the others, it is necessary to recognize other positions and appreciate their values as well.
