hi azarimy,

1. is it true that UiTM only asks for SPM for LAM part 1 degree? I don't need any foundation, stpm, matric? Just straight away to go degree? No other Uni offered this kind of path?

2. After I taken part 1 degree, I can take part 2 exam after I have experience of working as jr architect? How long is the duration for me to work to get ready for Part 2 exam?

3. The guide is also tells me that I can take Graphic design after finishing part 1. Is it helping me on taking part 2 exam?

4. I am a pure science student, with a 9A1B results on my trial exam and have beginner level skills with Blender and Maya. Can I confirm my place in UiTM? How fierce the competitions are with my skills?

5. Any tips for funding in studying architecture? (aside from PTPTN)
thanks.

And I am Pure Science student...so that won't stop me to study architecture right?

I believe Architecture is not based on exam papers right? Many people drop out from this course?

So can you give me some reason WHY students failed in the course? Too hard?

QUOTE(azarimy @ Mar 24 2012, 11:19 PM)
well we can say architecture is not 100% exam papers, but there are still exams nonetheless. in architecture, u're required to produce, present and defend ur design. something not everybody can do. sure, u can answer questions when asked, but defending ur answer is something u've never been trained before in primary or secondary school.

this is one of the reasons why a lot of people drop out. people came in to do architecture with little understanding of how rigorous it can be. i've interviewed hundreds of candidates. most thought design is something like pre-school art: just paint anything with brush or fingers and the teacher would put it up on the class wall.

well it's the absolute opposite of that. if u want ur work to be up there, u better be damn sure u've sorted all the problems in the design. some designers just assume 'owh i just put a door here...'. but the jury will ask 'why a door?', 'what kind of door?', 'why that door?' or 'why dont u use this size?'. it never ends.

and this puts people off.

and this is also a way to ensure we've always produce the very best architects.

Okay...I'm getting pissed by my relatives now...they tell me to take Mechanical Engineering rather than architecture.

They said architecture gradutes will face a hard time to get job nowadays. Please tell me that is only rumors...

1. I wonder...by the time I get Part 2 at UiTM...I would be having a master right?

2. Can I become lecturer on architecture? Or I need to get Part 3 first? Or there are other special requirements?

3. Can I continue for PHD after that?

"what do you know about architecture?"

I used every single words written in this thread.

"where do you know all this?"

Some UTM lecturer told me.

Thank you Mr. Azarimy.

Mr Azarimy, since I just got Sarjana Muda Sains (Senibina) in UiTM (as a 2011 SPM leaver), can I apply scholarship for JPA THIS year?

And If I accept PTPTN loan, can I apply for scolarship later? I still confused on financing my studies :/

I don't think you can apply scholarship AND have ptptn loan at the same time. Only one at a time.

So how? I thought that the PIDN (Program Ijazah Dalam Negara) scholarship will be out usually on august, and I'm aiming that scholarship. I really want to avoid taking PTPTN loans.

I just want to know whether me as a 2011 SPM leaver is qualified to apply for that scholarship for Sarjana Muda Sains (Senibina). There is no "ijazah" in my programme, so I kinda confused right now.

you can always apply for ptptn loan first and then when you got accepted for scholarship you can always terminate ur loan and pay what youve already accepted before.

as for JPA scholarship minimum req is 3.3 for your stpm or matrix results i think, but there a catch, once youve graduated you have to serve as governmetn servant for at least 10 years and any other government link companies.

How do? I only have SPM result of 5A,5A+.

When I look back at their old application advertistment (2011/2012) http://esilav2.jpa.gov.my/esila_new/pdf/20...s_PIDN_2011.pdf

I am qualified...but it states only for diploma.

And 2nd year students are not qualified to apply. rclxub.gif

So I made a mistake taking UiTM...should've had taken UTM diploma for architecture instead...

So I just want to share about my findings on scholarship for UiTM Sarjana Sains Senibina, whether I should take PTPTN or getting the JPA PIDN as a 2011 SPM leaver. I called JPA, and they said:

WPP (Wang Pinjaman Pendahuluan) PTPTN can be taken. 2011 SPM leavers CAN apply for PIDN (Program Ijazah Dalam Negara) for the mentioned course if acedemic qualifications are met. PIDN application will be open FOR A WEEK, between June and August. The WPP PTPTN is advised to be taken, because in some cases, the PIDN Scholaship money may be recieved a bit later maybe like 1 January 2013 (UiTM architecture degree students register on 1 September 2012). So you can use the WPP money for the fee first. After that, the loan can be closed upon recieving the JPA's scholarship and pay it back to PTPTN.

Most people said architecture students spend a lot of money to buy materials for projects and stationeries. More like 1k for per semester.

Really?

I'm still wondering, having a good charisma, good verbal communication and proper english is an invaluable skill for an architect?

I saw one of the post asking about what laptop should an Architecture student use.

And some said that a gaming laptop should do it. Do first year/ diploma student needs to use laptop for studying architecture?

Any suggestions for notebook models that will be suitable for architectural students?

ASUS? Toshiba?

Im actually looking on this ASUS G55VW which has awesome price tag and performance value for a high-tier laptop.

But there is still blurred line between gaming laptop and architecture works. I thought gaming GPUs are for gaming and workstation/architect GPU (or whatever you call it) have big difference. hmm.gif

I can draw, as in basic sketch and perspective.

But if my drawing skills not up to do criteria/not good enough for studying architecture, how do? Will I face a bit challenged to study, or it won't bother me too much?

Or our drawing skills already been reviewed during art test in interview, so that we are acceptable to study architecture?

Kinda scared if my drawings skills are too bad to study architecture, but I really love to draw.
