Hi Azarimy, I have some enquiries about further studying in UTM, I hope that you can help me with your extinctive experience and knowledge. smile.gif it's kinda close to the UPU registration from now, I just want to clarify something I'm not sure on.

I'm currently possessed a diploma in architecture from Alfa College with 2.6 CGPA, and I'm working in DP Architects currently.
From the UTM Entry requirements checklist, it says that "with diploma less that CGPA 2.7 and with 2 years of working experience in relative field should apply" (if I'm not interpreted it wrongly). So I've been working since I graduated from Alfa, it has been 2 years and a month.
And now, to fulfil the another requirement which is MUET, I've registered and I will be sitting in the exam on the March's batch.
Lastly, For the mathematic requirement, I got my maths in SPM a grade 6C; and here is my questions,

1. Have I even hit the bar for me to get into interview stage?
2. Am I qualified to apply to UTM undergraduate programme in architecture?
3. Since I have a MUET exam to sit in, I can only apply after I have my MUET result, is this correct?
4. If I'm not qualified, what can I do?

That's all for now, hope to hear from you soon. Thank you very much. smile.gif

hi there. lets go straight to ur questions:

1. and 2. yes, u've hit the minimum requirements. now it depends on ur competition this year. normally we'll call about 50-60 candidates for direct intake (term we use for those possessing diploma in architecture applying directly into 2nd year). if there arent that many applying this year, very likely u'll get called for the interview.

3. yes. but UTM's minimum requirement of MUET is just band 2, so it's pretty easy to get. the issue might be during application via UPU. u might not be able to fulfill the application without MUET. so u should contact UPU to inform them of the pending paper u're gonna sit.

4. add another year and try again. if possible, try telling applicants of the same year u're applying to NOT APPLY UTM.

Thanks for your prompt response, it's so lucky that we (architects wants to be) to have you to answer all our questions patiently. I really appreciate that. Thanks you.

Go back to your advice,

1. Let's say UTM have called 50 candidates to interview for direct intake this year, what are the chances to get in? And what is it depends on?

2. Most likely I will not able to apply thru UPU without a MUET result. Here's the situation, MUET usually takes 2 months to get the result released, means I will get my result on May, UPU would be already closed by the time then. Giving them a call would help that too?

3. Should I try direct application?

Sorry for asking too many questions in detail.

Thanks again Sir Azarimy, you're definitely a life saver smile.gif

Went to UPU just now, I'm kinda confused, it only has two categories for me to choose, which is SPM/setaraf and STPM/setaraf. How am I supposed to apply UPU when there is no diploma/setaraf category? I know this might be a stupid question for someone else, but I couldn't manage to figure it out. cry.gif cry.gif (please refer to the attachment)

Or I have to wait the Pemohonan kemasukan to be opened so i can apply?

Updates:

UPU 2016 registration start 18th January 2016, 12.00 noon
Closing date is 5th April 2016, 4.00pm (BSN will stop selling UPU pin no. at 4th April 2016, 11.45pm)

Mr. Azarimy,

Called UTM just now, the officer said that one who has no MUET exam's result need no to apply.

Then called UPU, they said I'm still able to apply UPU as long as I sit in the March's batch of MUET exam. He said I do not to wait for the result.

what does the bolded part mean? need not apply or could not apply?

What she meant was you NEED to have MUET (she didn't specifically mention about result or exam) to apply UTM via UPU.

UiTM is already accredited. UPM and UIAM would need to produce its first graduates in order to be accredited. for UM i'm not quite sure of their latest update.

the website will update the information usually about a few weeks after the results are in.
this will depend on each school.
i can only say for UTM's programme:

B.Arch vs M.Arch is certainly different since B.Arch UTM used to be a 5 year programme that covers both parts 1 and 2. the M.Arch is only a 2 year programme that covers only part 2. if we compare the last 2 years of the B.Arch and the M.Arch, it would still be significantly different.

the new M.Arch programme is much more rigorous and research oriented. in the old B.Arch u can get away with just providing references of other works and somehow reconstituting it in your design. in M.Arch, you need to figure out if the reference is legit, then use it in your design, and later test/simulate it to prove that it works (or not). so there is a certain degree of experimentation that u need to go through before convincing others that it works.

for example, u might see a certain sunshading device is claimed to reduce heat gain by 50% in XXX building. before u use it in your design, u need to prove that it did what it claimed it did. then use it in ur design and then test it out that it does reduce heat gain for ur design by around 50% as well. if it didnt, then u need to establish why it gained less (or more) in ur design.

so many who've bullshitted their way in part 1 got stuck in part 2, because it's no longer about flashy images and funky drawings. the shit u talk about has to work, one way or another, or it just dont.

that's basically one example of the difference.

Wow. I want you to be my lecturer.

Hi Mr. Azarimy,

I just applied my application via UPU, my category is under post-diploma. Just want to ask, working experience or SPM result, which one is carrying more weight?

Hi again Mr. Azarimy,

Is it possible to know when is the interview for Bachelor of Science in Architecture this year for UTM? And when will we get notified if we are selected for interview?

Hi Mr. Azari, saw this on UTM website, inserted my IC No. and clicked proceed, but it said that 'there is no application record in the system'. Is that meaning my application has been filtered and eliminated via UPU? Or the system is just not open yet? sad.gif

pretty sure that system is working fine. please call the faculty to check if they have ur name in the register.

07-5557406 speak to Pn. Harlina.

Just called Pn. Harline, she said that the system is only up for student(not sure if she was referring to UTM student or high school) only. In my case, as an individual applicant, I has to wait longer for them to process. She advised me to wait for e-mail or sms.

Hi Sir Azari,

I am a diploma holder and I applied to UTM as my first choice via UPU. I understand that the Sept. intake's interview is going on now. So I called UPU to check my application status, and the officer said that I'll have an interviews in UTM next week. But the fact that I haven't get any call or text from UPU or UTM is making me quite confusing.

I assumed that UTM will interview all the qualified candidates from UPU; or UTM will do another round of filtration?

I've tried to call the Intake Department, but seems like no one is picking up the phone. Can you help me with explaining how does these procedure works? Cause if the interview is held by next week, then I'll have to start preparing my interview by NOW.

Sorry for trouble and thanks.

Hi Mr Azari, I have been followed this post since 2015 when I applied UTM part 1 for the first time, and with my application being failed this year again, maybe I could use some of your advices.

I wouldn’t say my result are fantastic, but with a 2.7 diploma cert, band 4 in MUET and 5 years of working experience, i would say my portfolio probably are better than most of the part 1 candidate. However, I understand UPU and admission office filtered candidate by their ‘paper result’ but not their portfolio. Therefore I believe this is the main reason why I am not good enough to compete with other candidates in terms of UPU criteria.

So, my question is, what should I do as my next step in order to at least get me into interview session?

Thanks in advance Mr Azari.
