1. it could be anything. we dont have anything in particular, just something outstanding. if u're good in drawing figures, draw it really well. if u like flowers, make sure u can draw it just by recalling.

2. like i said earlier, we prefer if u focus in something and be really good at it. no point if u try to balance out buildings, figures, vehicles stuffs, but really mediocre in all of them. it doesnt matter if u could only draw figures, but just make sure u're REALLY good at it.

we're looking for talents. the school will help u to fix ur weakness later on.

3. physics was never a requirement. that's why art/business streamers could apply architecture.

4. it wont help to get in, but will certainly when u're there.
*
Thanks for clarification, but mind explaining this? Just to understand better.

That is university specific requirement. Remember, apart from all general requiremenys that have been discussed here, there are university specific requirements that u need to check. These can change every year. For example um requires physics credit, but utm dont. However, utm requires u not to be colour blind, but um dont.
*
Ok, thanks for clarification once again.
I recalled UTM and UiTM webpage were downed when I made the research last year. I think USM has the same requirement as UM because I compared these 2 unis, got the same requirements and concluded the general requirements.

1) Just want to make sure:
USM: B.Sc (HBP) -> B.Arch -> Architect
UPM: B.Design(Arch) -> B.Arch -> Architect
UM: B.Sc.Arch -> B.Arch -> Architect
UTM: B.Sc.Arch -> Architect (So now it is 3 years of B.Sc.Arch (Part 1) and 2 years of M.Arch (Part 2)?)

2) Is UiTM seriously only offer architecture to bumiputera?

3) Is interior design and interior architecture under certain body's accreditation?

2. not just architecture. the whole university is offering courses ONLY for bumiputera.

3. body of accreditation? not that i recall.

Weird, I have a few Chinese ex-schoolmates in UiTM last year. Foundation or Diploma I presume, since they did not take Matriculation/STPM.

Mr. Azarimy, I have read the old posts in 2012 to have the statistics of STPM applicants.
You mentioned 4000 applicants in which 200 were called to interview.
1) Among of those 4000, how many are placing architecture as their first choice?
2) Is there a statistics about the CGPA score of those 200?

Meanwhile, I am told that progress is one of the important considerations during the portfolio presentation in the interview. What kind of progress are the interviewee expecting?
-Improvement of drawing/painting skill?
-Increment of the degree of difficulty/complexity of artwork?
-This applicant started to use Sketchup rather than normal sketching?

1) I dont know the exact number, but in general about 80%. If u dont put architecture as 1st choice (regardless of uni), ur likeliness to be offered one is considerably lower.

2) not published publicly, but average is about 3.3 to 3.5.

For the portfolio, all of the above, and more. In general, anything that sets u apart from everybody else.
*
Ok thanks, architecture is definitely my first choice, CGPA score may be a trouble if I did not score well in some papers.
I'm still thinking how to express 'improvement' and 'progress' in portfolio, apart from setting artwork production dates and maybe application used.

do something different, ive seen a lot of juniors coming in with crappy drawings they do during their schooldays..

if all else fail try polytechnics route

I don't have those 'crappy drawings' with me currently, and I forgot where did I put back in my hometown. huh.gif

LOL, that sounds like fraud if you want me to degrade the skill purposely and faking the dates.

no. fraud is when u pay somebody to draw for u, or take others' works and pass it off as yours.

as long as YOU did it, it's YOURS and you can show it in the portfolio. it doesnt matter if you cant find previous works, because recent works count too. like my own pre-architecture portfolio, most of it was filled with crap. until i joined rakan muda (RIP) after SPM where i was tutored by a UiTM (back then ITM) lecturer only my skills developed. so if u were to gauge my progress, it was only noticeable AFTER SPM.

but progress is progress, and that counts too.

u see, the interviews also include a drawing test, where if u faked the portfolio, it's very easy for us to detect. we've been doing this far longer than u (the students) have wink.gif.
*
Thanks for advice, I'll see how to fake it well soon.
By the way, do I print the perspectives of computerised sketches, or do I get softcopy in CD for interviewee to access?

All materials should be printed in A4 or A3. No softcopies bcoz it just takes too long.

I am currently drawing on a sketchbook of dimension 17.8cm x 25.4cm.
As you recommend, I will print the computerised sketches on A4.
Thank you smile.gif

care to share those computerised sketches?
*
Firstly, I just started to use Sketchup. The experiences are less than 2 hours. So... fit yourself for the moment if they annoy you.

*The sketches are neither fully-sketched to scale nor dimensionally-correct.

here's an advice:

we've seen a lot of sketchup stuffs. the problem is, it's very hard to verify the authenticity of the sketchup models you've done, particularly since google promotes free sharing on the models.

so showing sketchup models might not carry much weight in the portfolio at the moment.
*
Almost forgot about the sharing thing, that is indeed a shortcoming hmm.gif
Too bad AutoCAD is currently out of my league sleep.gif

I guess I will still hand in the computerised sketches. I leave the judgement to the panel. After all, the truth is on my side. smile.gif

Original works like sketches, illustratons and stuffs. There will be a live drawing test, so we could see if the drawing u showed looks like the drawing u just drew.

But sketchup models? We cant verify them.
*
I read a 2012 post quoting exactly from offer letter that says photographs can be part of the contents of portfolio.
So, how does the panel authenticate photographs?

It is perfectly fine to cluster few photos and print on A4 paper right? Since one photo on one A4 paper is overrated wink.gif

if u took the picture, u should be able to justify about the subject, the tool used and whatever effect implemented. so we will scrutinise everything. but like i said, there are things that are harder to verify its authenticity. that's why photography alone is not enough, the subject itself has to be something that relates to u. if u show a picture of the grand canyon, how to justify? and if u are in the picture, it means u're not the one taking the picture wink.gif.

sure, u can do that. but professionals put one photo per A3.
*
Most of my photos are taken for aesthetic purposes like macro and minimalism. So, I can elaborate a lot by explaining the perspectives I used and how the lighting in the photo affects the mood.
I will test whether my photos fit decently on certain dimensions or not.

Thank you for advices once again.

Dear Mr. Azarimy,
I just noticed that UKM's Part 1 is 'accredited' in the route diagram in the first page of this thread, but not shown accredited in LAM website.

Is there something I missed out?

UKM has completed their accreditation process and have received the initial accreditation for part 1. The official statement that theyve acquired the part 1 was only made last month. So given the "speed" of LAM website updates, it'll be awhile before u see any changes wink.gif
*
I see biggrin.gif .
Another accredited IPTA to fill in during UPU registration. This will make all my 4 choices of research IPTA all architecture choice.

the status of research university (or not) have little impact on professional courses like architecture. just so u know, if that governs ur decision wink.gif.
*
Well, the UPU option first asks whether I want to take course in UTM, UM, UPM, UKM or not.
Since architecture is accredited in these, so naturally yes.

I am not sure whether these research university options can be filled in the the other 8 'normal' options or not. I have yet to use my BSN pin to fill the info other than STPM results.

but do note that beginning 2013, LAM will require a 6 months working experience after part 1. meaning there is very little chance that you or anyone in the world could do a continous part 1->part 2 studies without stopping. unless if u dont plan to get a part2, of course wink.gif.

Sounds like internship competition. tongue.gif
