What worries me the most now is Almunia. It is his last redemption chance to prove himself or being a timebomb in the team.

Why is people talking about Arsenal being ultra-defensive?
The problem I saw last night was Arsenal can't even hold the ball to attack. Why so serious? The problem is because we have player like Song to boss around midfield |

QUOTE(g_pentium @ Mar 13 2011, 03:58 AM) They even brought over Mascherano last season as a holding midfield.and look at their defenders coping witout Pique and Puyol. The only answers lies on Wenger hand.but i somewhat feel Arsenal been going downhill since the departure of David Dein our former vice-chairman rght?he had realy close relationship with Wenger, and that time we made couple of good signings during his tenure. Denilson decent? Ramsey was much better. Even the commentator said Denilson was nothing special. All he done was short passes. No penetration at all. Arsene is the only one who know the best. Its up to him to begin a ware house sale or keeping faith to his players |

QUOTE(g_pentium @ Mar 14 2011, 03:23 AM) i think it was adebayor.henry always twist dance with him. No. Last goal was against Newcastle. This is the last time we won against Man Utd as far as I remembered.arsenal 4-0 everton, We won the title that day, good days,1998.damm was a kid back then.was shouting go tony arsenal..hahaha.brings back the chills watching it..and assist by bould as well... guys if not mistaken this was henry's last goal for arsenal right..gosh i was jumping and shouting when henry score that goal!!!29th january 2007.nv forget tat date...hahahaha.goosebumps!!!!!! van persie equaliser was superb as well..an amazing assist by henry. Look at Eboue. This is why I like Eboue over Sagna. I do think Eboue's crossing is better than Sagna but Eboue tend to dribble to much just like Diaby. That is why he lost his place I guess |

QUOTE(lostasylum @ Mar 14 2011, 06:40 PM) In any given era of the EPL (and previously first devision) life, there will be a team that is dominating while the others will just have to play catch up... all those debates are pumped by the media somehow. They expect Arsenal to win trophies every season. To me, its normal. Every team has its up and downAlthough United has been the constant force in the current EPL era, it was a 25 year wait before United won the league title in '92. Similarly, despite dominating the 70s & 80s, Liverpool has not won the league since 1990. And by the time George Graham delivered the league title to Arsenal in '88, it had been a long 18 year wait for the fans for the league title. For me, I see a lot of deficiencies in the current arsenal squad which can be improved, and whether or not wenger is the man to spearhead the next era of success for this club is up for discussion right now. but what i do know is that, that time of arsenal's success will arrive, and if it means waiting for 18 years, i will proudly wear the arsenal jersey until then. i mean, what's 18 years compared to chelsea waiting for 50 years or sp*rs entering their 50th year of waiting for the league title? i know that it's really painful when fans of other clubs take the mickey out of us right now, but let's not fall into the trap of dignifying their taunts by retorting to them, or even worse, going down to their level. now let's hope that wenger will make those difficult decisions to ensure that we won't end the season empty handed. but if we do, then too bad loh... there's always next season... =) |

QUOTE(Nemesis13 @ Mar 15 2011, 01:30 PM) I would prefer to have good discussion with someone like corez or boxsystem as they provide very informative input from a different point of view with solid facts. 1) Everyone in the team is figuring hard how to keep him fit for the whole season. If they achieved this, I believe we will see a different side of RVP.But with you, looking at the replies that you respond to, i only could find zero maturity. I would appreciate if you don't reply to my post. Can we have a discussion on players who's not good enough to be in the team, to win a premiership. I know this would actually create an easy route for some frustrated fans to make a certain player an escape goat, i'm hoping for a positive discussion, not just from Arsenal fan, others are welcome based on their analysis. P.S : Please bear in mind that, the discussion is purely on whether the player was good enough to win the premiership this season, please don't discuss on his age/maturity/development thus leading out of topic. Please do compare the below players to other premiership team players as this is where i would want this discussion lead to. Thanks. Lets start with strikers/forwards : 1) RVP10 2) C29 3) NB52 4) A23 5) TW14 6) V11 (Loan to WBA) 1)RVP10 has always been our best striker in the squad. But he has a problem, he just can't stay fit for the whole season due to injury prone. Despite that, he still contribute to the team for a whole season in term of goals. For me, he's good enough based on the stats that he provides every season. 2)A bargain striker who replaced RVP10 when he was injured. He went missing after that. Why did we get him for if we don't include him in the squad ? As a replacement only ? His stats is average on the number of games he played compared to contribution. Clinical striker ? Sometimes i doubt that, as he don't take the opportunity. Missing goal instinct ? 3)This lad has been disappointing the whole season. Despite his hattrick against New Orient, i failed to capture his contribution to the team this season. All talks but no action ? Clinical finisher - No. He's a CF, but caught out of position most of the time. Does Arsenal system which doesn't suite his style of play ? Well, for this season, i think he was nowhere near good to be inserted in a premiership winning team. 4) Hardworking, but making quite alot of mistakes in term of passing. Often getting caught. He's been pretty average this season, perhaps too high off expectation ? May be the lack of goal explains his average contribution ? 5) Arsenal certainly been missing him. He's having one of the good season till injury. I sense that we lack off fast pace players to run through the defender, opening space. I think he certainly was good enough for this season. The injury was unforeseen. We have no adequate substitute. 6) Vela, to be honest i was expecting him to get much needed game time this season. I believe from the games he played for Arsenal, he was largely missing in the game. Not physical enough ? I must say that i am dissapointed with him, may be next season we could see more of him. 2) He lost his place right after RVP recovers. Maybe burnt out due to many games at the beginning season or lost his form due to rotation? 3) I did not see any improvement since last season. Maybe he have too much of self confidence thinking he is good enough for the team ? 4) When he arrived at Emirates, he was playing in Cesc's role. I do think that, the wing position he was deployed did not get the best out of him. I still think he is more like a central playing after watching the EURO08. 5) We missed him dearly. Very good example, against ManUtd previously. Nasri,Arshavin and Jack were not fast enough to penetrate the opposition's defence line. I believe one day he is not back. The team will need to work extra hard to win games. 6) After watching him playing for WBA, I believe he should be given more chance. Maybe in Walcott's role? |

QUOTE(kimhoong @ Mar 15 2011, 11:54 AM) I see some good discussions over the past few days. :claps: I still think Arsene not keeping the Invincibles was his biggest mistake. Ljunberg was poor due to his injury, Lauren was getting old and Eboue rises to replace him, Toure was good but the price from ManCity was good money, maybe Vieira's wage was too high and Arsene wanted to cut cost?. In my opinion, Pires,Campbell and Vieira should be kept. These fellas are still very influential right before they leftAlthough it's too early to post on AW's season review or something, it's always nice to have healthy discussions on any topics. I'd like to share my thoughts on this as well. non-tactical/strategy reasons Although many would argue that it's just an excuse, but AW/Arsenal really suffers badly from 1. Bad and "disturbing" tackles / injuries 2. Bad refereeing, especially on critical games 3. Bad luck Well, these are subjective, so no point elaborating or discussing them further. Many may say it's part of the game, but for me, these hit us harder. tactical/strategy reasons 1. Youth Policy Actually AW knows that Youth policy is hard, he has been stubborn at first (and let many of the Invincible team left) but later, he realized this. That's why he has (already) started injecting some experienced players. Don't tell me players like Arshavin and Rosicky are young when they were brought in. New players like Koscielny (26), Squillaci (30) and Chamakh (27) are all but "young" to me. You see, AW knew this and he has been trying to alter between youth policy and a competitive squad. All I can say is AW is still trying, trying hard and has yet found the right balance. 2. Experienced/Senior Players I must admit (as pointed above) that AW has made a big mistake for letting go the Invincible team, many of them that I do not even understand why, such as Lauren (who is quiet and loyal), Campbell (who went to "Oversea" Portsmouth), Toure (fighting with Gallas? + $$$?), Gilberto (losing place to Flamini + captaincy to Gallas), Vieira ($$$? Performance drop?), Ljungberg (understandably his poor form after injury), Pires (free transfer???), etc. It's not about phasing out non-productive players that simple, it's more about having some "Old Guards" in the team, not necessarily as captains, to lead and look after the team. Also, the 30+ 1 year contract should be reviewed. 3. Tactics Both our Invincible's split-second attack and the current multi-passing game are good to watch. My only complaint is that AW should have a Plan B, and polish it as much as he does for the Plan A. There have been many occasions where the Plan A did not work and the team would get confused what to do next. Besides that, the same goes to playing without certain key players. But to be fair, AW has adopted more direct passing to the center recently. 4. Spending AW does spend! Just that he doesn't spend 30M for a player, we should label him for not spending enough 5. Holding midfielder True enough, this is what we are lacking. Our best midfielder partnership (when we play 4-4-2) was Vieira+Gilberto. Gilberto was the invisible wall. Vieira, despite his role was box-to-box midfielder, I found out that he more defensive-minded as compared to offensive. Then, came Flamini as our tireless and combative defensive midfielder. Now, we have Song but current trend of football causes injury more often and we need a reliable backup. Wilshere is good but he's more a Vieira than a Gilberto to me. ... more points to share but my time is limited, to be continued. Verdict: We are on the right track, as long as AW/Arsenal learns what happens/happened. After all, we are still the closest challengers to League title On Lehmann signing, it's good. With a contract, it's better than the intermittent "training sessions" by ex-players |

QUOTE(kazek @ Mar 15 2011, 02:10 PM) The thing is Wenger has this policy where if you are over 30 you get a 1 year contract. Actually among the all Invincibles other than Henry, Pires should have be kept. He was very influential in his last season. His pace decreases together his age but when Arsene played him in the central midfield along with Cesc. He actually played very well. Example: Came out of bench against WBA during the Dennis Bergkamp day. Oh yeah, he is still playing good in Aston Villa. It was weird how easily Pires was let go despite being our 2nd top scorer in his last season. And that's considering he was coming off the bench for most of the season. |

QUOTE(Azurues @ Mar 16 2011, 06:34 PM) Vermaelen nowhere near return Hope Vermy can recover as soon as possible. I am worry about Rosicky no2. Thomas Vermaelen's injury hell shows no sign of coming to an end with the player revealing he has no idea when he will be able to play again. Vermaelen, 25, has not featured for Arsenal since the end of August and has made just three Premier League appearances this term. It has been a huge blow to Arsenal's hopes of winning silverware with Vermaelen their most dominant and consistent centre back. An Achilles injury was diagnosed in September, after his return from Euro 2012 qualifying duty with Belgium. It has been reported that the issue is not the Achilles tendon itself but another tendon in the area which not all people have and is said to serve no purpose. It was thought Vermaelen would miss only six weeks after having surgery on the problem, but he has not even been close to playing again. He recently spent a week of intensive rehabilitation treatment in the Netherlands but it appears unlikely that Vermaelen will be available for selection again this season. And in an interview with Belgium newspaper Het Nieuwsblad, Vermaelen revealed that he has already suffered six relapses during his recovery. "I feel no trouble in the Achilles tendon itself, but the muscles around it still need to be made stronger," he said. "I do not know when I will be back. "At first they said I would need four or six weeks after the operation. But it soon became apparent that it would last longer. I'm not even in training. I'm still working on my exercises to come back. This is a tough mental test. "I relapsed six times. That was hard. Every time I had a goal to come back, but that was then broken again and again. "I am now cautious. It is frustrating that I cannot play. I had never been injured for so long. On some days it's mentally very tough but I see this as a test. Perhaps it is also good for my career and it will make me stronger mentally." Arsenal are also likely to be without Swiss international Johan Djourou for the rest of the campaign after he suffered a shoulder injury against Manchester United on Saturday, leaving manager Arsene Wenger short on options in central defence. soccernet A season without him makes me sad |
