Owned a RX290 Rexton.
Parts isn't that EXPENSIVE if you know where to source from. Even authorized SC is trying to cutting off their customer throat, what more for those outside local spare parts shop?? Been went through overhaul the gearbox by authorized SC for 3 fcking times, end up buying a clutch plate worth RM68 (expensive lah) and got it replace by my own worker in my own workshop.. Been serving me so far so good, at least until now.
Fuel consumption wasn't that bad neither, a good full tank could get me at least 550KM, assume that i only drive 20KM away from my living area to my office.
Added on March 3, 2011, 7:49 pmAdd ons: By the way, i do not recommend getting a Rexton. As what howie said, good luck with Rexton.
I have 2 friend own the same car, same model as mine. One of them do not have any transmission problem like me and another friend of mine do.
Good news is, he's clocking almost 350k KM on his Rexton already, he's travel quite a distance weekly (Chemor > KL > Chemor > KL)
You are right. Parts are expensive because SC is charging 2X~3X highers. With RextonHub established, we have direct contact with parts wholesaler and parts supplier, locally or from Korea directly. Most of the common problem are caused by poor maintenance and wrong diagnosis done by inexperienced workshop that do not have the right tools, skills and experience with such luxury SUV, just like not every workshop can handle Mercs.
RX270XDI has much better FC that can easily get 600km with RM120 fuel on city drive and 700~750km on highway drive within legal speed limit. With ever increasing price of petrol, the FC is as cheap as sedan.
Currently, we are active at http://forum.autoworld.com.my/index.php?showforum=117 but will be migrating to our own forum at RextonHub.com soon. Can post any questions or issues related to Rexton there, we have Technical Advisor and a group of active owners interacting actively.

i hv same view with u, it really attracted me to hv 1 too.
my friend advice me to choose 280model, hazard free compare 270xdi
what is ur opinion & advice?
RX280 is older model with 4 speed. If you really wanted petrol, should go for RX320 that comes with 5 speed if you don't mind higher road tax. my friend advice me to choose 280model, hazard free compare 270xdi

But the best choice is RX270XDI that has higher torque, much refined than older model, better FC, newer engine and transmission. Test drive one or read our forum to know more details.

I have tested drive Exora last year when it was launched not long. To avoid being labeled as biased, I suggest those interested buyers to test drive in following condition1. Get 5 adults + 2 kids (that's what 7 seaters MPV meant for) on board. Try to time the acceleration from 0 ~ 50kmh, see if you can get within 8 sec.
2. Then cruise at 80kmh and try to push to 120kmh, time the acceleration and RPM that you getting. The higher RPM you get will be higher the FC.
With these 2 simple and basic test, you will know if the car is underpower or not. Can test on any straight flat road, don't need to climb hill or with heavy luggages or 7 adults.

Rexton maintenance cost is very high..once I saw somebody bring his rexton to nissan service centre to change engine oil but the mechanic don't know how to do it...so if u opt for rexton u must know a good rexton mechanic..now sang yong under mahindra
Why would that somebody go to nissan service center to service Rexton? Obviously, they do not have the experience and right tools to do the job. Would you drive a Mercs to Proton SC for servicing? With panel workshop and SC establised in all major cities, shouldn't be any problem to handle most of the issues. If not, plenty Mercs workshop can handle as well.
You are getting a Merc technology and luxury at a fraction of its cost, why not?

It's better if you're getting an used unit, but make sure everything is in good condition.
A new ones probably doesn't justify with the value depreciation of the car.
I will go for Rexton over the Exora anytime. Spacious and comfort than a Exora, that's what i want in a SUV. But underpowered also lah both car. haha
All korean cars depreciate badly, hopefully this improve over time as Korean branding and demand has been increasing over the years. Korean brands are doing very well in Europe, US and UK which helps to improve local sentiment too. New Korean model like Hyundai Tuscon and Sonata is selling like hot cake with 3~6 months waiting time, something unseen previously.A new ones probably doesn't justify with the value depreciation of the car.

RX290 power could be not as good but if well maintained it is good workhorse. Rexton RX270XDI has much better power. Original stock condition is getting 13 sec for 0~100 and remap one could get 10~11 sec. Power is ever ready for you to push.

Rexton engine oil is that hard to replace? Oh gawd, then i must be proud of myself by knowing how to unbolt a nuts and release all the engine oil.
Engine oil - NO
ATF - Yes, very hard to replace, need to pump the ATF from undercarriage.
Caltex Delo 400 that is meeting the requirement of CI-4 is available at all Caltex petrol station, not difficult to get. Can also buy thru the Hub.Engine oil - NO
ATF - Yes, very hard to replace, need to pump the ATF from undercarriage.
Why dirty your hand and go under carriage if you can just pay RM20~RM30 for workshop to replace them?
Only RX290 need to pump ATF from under carriage but if you have the right tools, it is not that hard. This is the same for lots of older diesel engine too. RX270XDI is just topping up from engine cabin like any other car. If the workshop has ATF Recyling Machine, they can just suck, flush and replace new ATF oil easily.
