Sabah, Labuan folk told to avoid the coast March 11, 2011
KUALA LUMPUR, March 11 — Sabah and Labuan residents have been advised to stay away from the coast due to rough seas and high sea level expected to occur between 6pm and midnight tonight.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department issued the reminder following the strong earthquake which hit northeast Japan this afternoon.
The 8.9-magnitude earthquake hit the northeast coast of Honshu, Japan at 1.46pm, at 4,434km northeast of Kudat, Sabah.
The earthquake triggered a tsunami in Japan.
However, no tsunami warning was issued for Malaysia. — Bernama

Eye-opening scenes from the footage on Al-Jazeera feed. Cars lying belly up in a sea of debris like dead fish, lying alongside swept ships while cars driving next to them trying to get away from it all. Very humbling....
Added on March 11, 2011, 5:25 pmInterview on Al-Jazeera describing chaos in Tokyo streets when the earthquake struck.

Looking at the Tsunami Travel Times chart, the tsunami wave will hit Sabah and Labuan 6 hours after the earthquake. Which is around 8-9pm.

QUOTE(Kyoyagami @ Mar 11 2011, 05:31 PM) How do you think the magnitude of the tsunami will be? I only can pray it dissolves. Hopefully dissipated by the time it reaches our shores. OR expended its force on the Philippines. I know it's not nice to pray havoc on other countries, but the Phillipines may shield it and decreases its power.

The list goes on and on and on, on the affected areas/tsunami alert listed out by the Meteorological office personnel, on NHK/Al-Jazeera.
@aiyish,
Me too. I made great friends there. Please be safe.
