Have flash to Gingerbread 2.3 already. Nothing really special there. Just like the Froyo. Now on 3e, can not do rooting.
*
can root, see the JV1 thread at development section. Now, can use CF-root too I think.

Nitr8 made one too. You guys can flash gingerbread rom. But I'm sure you all will go back to froyo after testing it.

Added on March 2, 2011, 9:30 amthose on 2.3.2, care to explain the "Download" manager app?
*
I think it is a unified place where all of your downloads will go. Let's say that you have a download from stock browser and another one from xscope. Those two downloads from different browsers will go to this app for you to access.

QUOTE(noobie1 @ Mar 2 2011, 07:44 AM)
same as me..lol

@gmhafiz the 1st page about unroot, the link u gave, ain't that for eclair only? or it work for froyo too?
*
I noticed that. But the method remains the same (deleting those three files). I will test that cwm zip file. If it doesn't work, I'll find one that does or I'll just make one.

In the mean time, you can use command kung-fu to unroot. I've posted it in a few threads before.

1) is it true there's alredy gingerbread rom for SGS? anyone test it?
2) anyone try darkyy 9.3?
3) correct me if im wrong, but it seems that MIUI port is likely closing down, am i right??
*
1. It is a leaked firmware. Legitimate one but IMO, an alpha quality, not beta. Few members here tested and gave quick reviews.
2. I am using simple galaxy rom. So far liking it because of beautiful honeycomb theme.
3. Temporarily I hope. Things will change when we get gingerbread sources from Samsung because this will speed up CM7 and Miui

*
Coolya and codworkx are both talented devs. They won't stop developing cm7. When Samsung releases the source, things will speed up a bit I think.

Anyone tried Insanity 0.71 gingerbread Rom?

GmHafiz? You support Insanity Roms right?
tongue.gif
*
I like insanity rom but nitr8's approach is minimalism. So that will not appeal to everyone. IMO the leaked gingerbread is not worth the hassle. I'm sure you guys will go back to froyo.

In other news, I have successfully unrooted using a CWM zip file and re-rooted from recovery mode (using speedmod kernel to root). This will completely unroot your phone.

This is useful if z4root or superoneclick were unable to unroot your phone. I'll upload the CWM in a bit.

Simply Galaxy ROM 2.3 SweetHoney is nice! Feels a little snappier than Darky 9.3. I like the blueish theme after weeks of staring at green (Darky) and then black (Sconcau).. smile.gif

Also, my colleague tried the leaked Gingerbread JV1 firmware - too buggy for daily use, especially when it comes to 3rd party apps and games..
*
It not only looks pretty, but really fast and smooth too. I finally got a properly working gingerbread keyboard with haptic feedback with this rom. I've raised few points about the rom in his thread but the rom maker seems to ignore me sad.gif

lastly, should i make a big step change to Android ?  hmm.gif

the simplest way to get CWM is to flash speedmod, get the .tar/odin version, since you dont have CWM,
*
Yup, flashing speedmod is the best. Can get 2e recovery and speedier phone. Kills two birds with one stone.

I don't know why that thread says unroot is for eclair only. I have looked into the zip file and it should work with froyo too. I have now only modified it a bit so that it'll will go one step further for even complete unroot by deleting /system/bin/su symlink as well. I've tested this yesterday. Unfortunately, got blackout so the file stuck in my desktop. sweat.gif

A. Unroot
1. Download the file Attached File  unroot.zip ( 160.1k ) Number of downloads: 272
and copy to your sdcard
2. Reboot into recovery mode
3. Select install zip from sdcard
4. Select choose zip from sdcard
5. Scroll down till you found the unroot.zip file.

B. Re-root
1. If you have speedmod kernel, go to the recovery mode
2. Select advanced SpeedMod ULK features
3. Select ROOT / Install Superuser
4. Select "Simple: Install busybox+su"
5. Reboot.

Your /system will be readonly by default. To make it readwrite, Click on rw button in RootExplorer or using terminal emulator,
CODE

$su
#mount -o remount,rw -t rfs /dev/block/stl9 /system   //or ext4 instead of rfs if you have enabled lagfix. Note that it is STL 9, not nineteen.

or simply use z4root or superoneclick smile.gif

Ipad2 has no magnetometer, no compass, degraded experience for using google maps and navigation. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I already have my iPad so will likely not consider the iPad2. BTW, guys and gals, as of today, the iPad prices have dropped RM300-400 on the Malaysian Apple Store. Anyone interested? My RM2599 iPad 64GB+3g+wifi is now RM2199 ha ha - that's the price we techies pay for chasing technology.. tongue.gif

Also a bit scared of the Xoom - Motorola is known for f*cking up their devices' bootloaders. Will wait and see what Samsung have up their sleeves for Honeycomb tablets.. biggrin.gif

Added on March 3, 2011, 1:03 pm

Shipping is FOC (shop.momax.net) for orders above HK$200. I already have 3 confirmed buyers (myself, my colleague and a friend). If you're in Penang, I can topup my order.. smile.gif
*
Motorola has the xoom's bootloader unlocked because they want devs to make cool apps with it.

That's nice to know. However I think Samsung's devices are better Android devices out of the box for me. Things like native AVI/MKV playback and easy-to-tinker software components (e.g. rooting, changing kernels, changing modem packs etc) are very nice to have..
*
That's right. At least galaxy s has been very hacker-friendly.

Anyway, I've updated the first page. Added instructions for unrooting by CWM.

be warned that ext2 has no journal like ext4. If your phone suddenly hangs and you pull out the battery, you will get data loss. However, damiangto claims his kernel users do not experience such problem.

About oc/uv. Is it stable for long period of time? What is your undervolt settings?

It is perfectly safe. I'm not sure how the back-door works. But when that file is created, it prevents any other apps from creating the same file at that folder. Probably that's how the back-door works - by exploiting the missing /system/bin/profile file.
