Not really, he's probably getting it from the UK as well and adding his ~30% cut.
Got mine straight from the UK in 9 days.

The vintage Gillettes are marked up way way too much imo...

Was it sent from the UK via standard mail?

Sigh. I just got like a whole box of Arkos...
And I have other creams too to spice things up once in a while.

Hi guys,

Cant believe I just found this thread. Glad to see WS is alive and well here and also that I am not alone in my frustration at finding good stuff locally.

For those looking to try out some other blades I am trying to put together a Pre-order for a sampler pack. Description of blades in the pack which I target is on the page below:

The Bristly Boar

I see some of you have already tried blades which are less common here like Voskhods (more should try them, I quite enjoy them). Basically I need the numbers to justify shipping the packs in from the various countries to build the sampler packs. Do let me know if you are interested.

Cheers!  biggrin.gif

My kit:
E3 Fatboy, Merkur 34C, Kent soap (MWF relabel), Omega 10098, Omega 40033

Hi, Glad to meet you here. Wet shaving is alive & making a comeback, although still niche.. I started wet shaving since last Dec 2015 cause I'm fed up with the soaring prices of cartridge blades. Have tried Gillette, Schick and Shaves2u.
I use an antique Gillette Super Speed rip off made by the Kwan Yung factory ( China) . Still plenty to learn in perfecting the perfect shave. For the brush, I used a filthy cheap boar brush (Eterna brand) , which I bough from Little India , Klang. Not great, but does the job. I've tried Dorco ST300, Astra SP, Gillette 7 O' Clock, Treet, SuperMax. My go to blades will be Astra & Gillette 7 O' Clock.

Have been using it and never looked back since.

How does the r41 shaves?

Is it as aggressive as they said?

I'm keen on getting one myself
*
Generally, more aggressive due to the open comb. More blade exposure. Great if you have a thick beard

This thread is dying. Will pic of a NOS Fat Boy revive it? thumbsup.gif

This thread must never die... We should preserve this fantastic & cheapo way to shave for current & future generations.. There is a FB page -Wet Shaving Malaysia. You guys should join. Who knows, we can have a razor meet up one of these days to share experience, knowledge, trade/sell/swap..

Ok wet shaving bros, been using an ej89 but it's too mild for me to get a nice clean shave. I get a better shave from those plastic laser disposable de razor.

Open to suggestions. Please also suggest any sites that can do international shipping for cheap. Usually it's the shipping that becomes a deal breaker. Thanks y'all!

The above offers the best bang for your RM. If you want something aggressive, go for open comb Muhle R41. I would advise that you check out Merkur's Futur adjustable razor.

BTW, what DE blades are you using? It could make a difference. Try using a more aggressive blade in your EJ89. Based on my experience, those with platinum coatings are very mild. Go for the plain super stainless or classic carbon . They're much sharper

Try larry at http://www.whippeddog.com/

OR alternately, you can try getting the TITAN or ZY brand straight razor from Ali Express . Both gets favorable reviews on straight razor forums. I personally own a TITAN. Holds up the edge very well. But over time, you will need to hone it. You can also obtain a honing stone from Ali Express as well. Would recommend at least an 8k grit. If you have extra cash to burn, get the Guangxi stone. This is a natural stone, very forgiving as its a slow cutter. Rumoured to be of 12k grits

Search for Guangxi sharpening stone

Any idea if there's a difference between Ming Shi and Qshave? Seems like Qshave is more expensive than the Ming Shi.

It seems that the first affordable version of the 'Futur' design was from MIng Shi. Have read many favorable reviews on this particular brand. No idea about Qshave though. My advice is , go with the crowd
