Yup too many defects from other VW owners. Also a high price for a car that size as well. Go ahead and consider other Marques but I still do encourage you to at least go for a test drive. That way you can also get a feel of the cars drivability before condemning it smile.gif

I had the same issues with my Civic 1.8 as well! First batch 2006 model. So many problems faced especially after passing the 100k km mileage.
*
Haha yes yes mine was the 2006 first batch too. Nice interior but other than that, the overall quality sucks big time and FC was bad. I was in Korea last week and I sat in the new Kia Optima (they call it K5 over there). What a beauty and the built quality was fantastic. From far, looks like a Jaguar and from some angle, an Aston Martin. This car if priced correctly in Malaysia, its going to seriously shake the market share of the Accords and Camrys.

The FSI is actually tougher and better made. Its also able to take more power, which is why the roc/golf R uses a modified FSI instead of the new TSI engine

if you are going to search tru forums looking for car problems, you will end up never buying a car...i guarantee you that EVERY brand you search will have problems... you think paying a million ringgit will prevent a car having problems? anywone remember the ferrari recall last year? where new ferraris were bursting into flames?

research is good...but too much research makes you a hypercondriac. You are searching Aus and SG forums...VW cars are made all over the place....diffrent batches, diffrent parts, diffrent factories..

if you search SG forums..u will get a TON of posts on 1.4 gearboxes exploding and failing...but it doesnt affect us as its only 09/early 2010 cars that were affected and VW SG has rectified the issue.

anyway..thats what the 5 year warranty is meant for...peace of mind for 5 years. if u are worried..then go buy a civic (incidentally...a forumer here got the Golf after numerous problems with his civic)

Service - Yes its bad...but im willing to give them chance to improve, the current dealers are not equipped with the HUGE surge in VW owners

- thats also why we can always go to trusted outside service centres for servicing outside the normal schedule servicing
Quality - Im just as annoyed over quality issues as the next person, but new owners mustn be scared off....ppl tend to b**** and complain over the net more....but for every complaint theres probably 10-20 others who are perfectly happy. VW quality is no worse then BMW or Merc.
*
Yup, totally agree. You can buy a new kancil and the car probably have no defects. It's all about luck..

yahooo... success...
installed the RCD510 on my rocco DIY style.. tks to bro Wira...the panel is a bit different compared to the mk6..
also  it's not written premium 8 version but got confirmation it's the version with camera input (for rear cam).
*
Very nicely installed. Can I know how much you paid for your RCD510? I'm thinking of changing mine either to RCD or RNS, haven't decided yet..

Any idea how can we complain to VGM?
Had a bad experience with my GTI too.
1st day i got my car battery dead on me at night.
Car was dented even before it was delivered to me.
Very disappointing =.=
*
Wow thats bad man. A dented new car is totally unacceptable. You should not even have accepted the car. But I hope they will resolve it for you soon. Keep us updated

Wow! That's surprising.
Are you heavy footed?
My GTI seems to be having quite bad FC.
Collected my car with 60% petrol and it went 200km when there's 20km left stated in the MFD range.
Pumped 52litres after that. Wasn't throttling it when i got it though.
*
Yeah the FC on my GTI was really bad on the first tank. Only got 380km but mostly city driving though. Now in 2nd tank and it shows can go about 450km. Should be getting better i hope. Did you face any QC issues on your GTI so far? Mine has the AFS bending lights failure indicator kept popping up on the MFD. Also, I've got squeeking noises on my seat.

After I pumped full tank, MFD showing me range 460KM.
I was like "ain't it suppose to be at least 10km/l?"
I didn't have the AFS failure indicator showing up though, but a lil rattle sound from the driver side door panel.
When I drive through uneven roads, it has some noises coming out from underneath my car.
Not sure what's the issue but I'll ask them to check tomorrow.
Will be sending my car back to TTDI to repair that stupid dent  mad.gif
*
I also had the rattling sound but its at my front passenger door side. Got it fixed at the service centre this morning and they said it was the sound of the B pillar? No idea about that but the sound seems to be gone now. Perhaps you should get your dealer to check it out too. As for the AFS, the indicator is still there after I left the dealer mad.gif
I hope they fix your dent soon, once all these defects are fixed, move on and enjoy your GTI to the max rclxm9.gif

If the dent is caused during the shipment then it can be returned.
I think the dent is caused by some ladder or something.
They mention in the delivery agreement where I signed, "To repair the dented part to it's original and perfect condition".
They promised that it would not be noticeable at all after repairing.
I hope that is true. If I still notice something I was freaking make sure they repair until I can't see anything wrong!  mad.gif
*
Yes bro, you have every right to make sure they fixed it until its perfect. Pressure your dealer. Hope all turns out well..

just to share something here....since I got my car last month, I've been using Caltex Ron95. Everything seems smooth and good power. Today I tried Shell Ron95 because my fuel can't last until I can find a Caltex petrol station. I feel the engine is not as smooth when gear shift, then when I press hard on the pedal, I can't feel the pull that I gets before this on 2nd gear with Caltex.....hmm

Would like to have more input and data from other GTI users to conform this....if possible i would stay with Caltex for now.
*
Hmm, I shall give the Caltex a try then. Have you tried the new Petronas 95?

nope....coz petronas doesn't accept Amex....haha....I want the 5x treat points and 5% rebate on weekend!
*
Oh yes, the maybank Amex card! Good idea. So, I guess the Caltex is the best option huh. My only problem with Caltex is the lack of stations as compared to Petronas or Shell

the noise i hear from my GTI is my tire sound only..
maybe cause its using RE 050
very little wind noise from the windows

i've seen alot of youtube reviews saying that they improved this MK6 noise so that u wont get alot of wind noise compared to the previous mk5

if i off my radio only thing i can hear from my car is the turbo spooling @ 2.5k rpm and the exhaust sound smile.gif
*
Are you getting the hissing noise at 2.5-3k rpm? As of now, I still dont like the noise. Just hope i can get used to it.

Yea, even civic can go 200km/h.
Never tried on mine b4 i sold it off though.
But seriously, I was cruising on MEX just now and a civic just tailgated me when I was at 140-180km/h.
I was only able to shake him off at over 200km/h. I'm feeling the stress trying to drive so fast especially with the traffic during peak hours cry.gif
I don like to be tabao-ed by my ex ride  doh.gif
*
Is that a civic 2.0 tailgating you? Hmm a GTI should be able to shake him off easily if the road is clear flex.gif

yeah bro... around 2.2k rpm..
its the sound of the turbo spooling smile.gif
cause the turbo turbine is at the back of the car engine thats why u can hear it when the radio is off..

i'm loving the sound actually haha
*
Ok man, I will try to love it then biggrin.gif

but with the radio on cant really hear it at all..
cause when 2.5k rpm the exhaust sound also kicks in..
*
Yeah, though i didnt really like the hissing sound, i love it when the "vroom" sound kicks in. That sound is music to my ears rclxms.gif . Speaking of radio, I actually find the sound of the stock audio not too bad, just that the low end bass not deep enough. Perhaps a sub might help. I am very tempted to get RNS but not sure if the money will be well spent as honestly, I wont use the GPS very often. Still in dilemma about this hmm.gif

yea the speakers are not that bad actually haha..
just put 1 monoblock + sub should be enough... if not mistaken there is amps powering the speaker thats why the sound quality is quite nice..

for me i dont think i'll change to 510 looks nice but not really neccesarry for me.. smile.gif
for that price i rather change full set APR turboback exhaust..
*
The stock audio in the Golf/Roc is definitely way better than the ones fitted in the Camry/Accord 2.4. I find even the Bose system fitted in my friend's Mazda 6 is not as nice as ours, which was a surprise to me. The Mark Levinson audio installed in the higher end Lexus are awesome though thumbup.gif The RNS or RCD will definitely make the dashboard look more upmarket though. Still deciding la. Tomorrow, I will be installing the rear LED lights together with my friend. How much is the APR set bro?

I'm quite keen in APR too but not so soon. Wanna enjoy my car in stock performance for few months first! I was quoted 2.5k for the R lights with installation and 1 year warranty. Have you checked around?

that 1 he selling plug and play...
*
Ok thanks, FA Wagen quoted me 3.2k plus installation and warranty, that's why i decided to do it outside. Will keep you updated tomorrow on my decision
