Yeah I saw this on the VAGSG forums as well but the key difference is that:

1) TMC Tuning Box have to get it in SG (additional cost there)
2) Any additional issues or problems with it, you need to go all the way to SG to get it fixed (of course if you are from JB then its no biggie tongue.gif) as compared to the Racing box thingy which the distributor is in Shah Alam.

Any idea how much is the TMC Tuning Box?

Both are from Germany and TUV certified and both comes with the original manufacturer's plug so no issues there.

Only thing is that if the VW ECU data logger will be able to detect this the moment you plug it in. I have asked the distributor for the other box but no response yet.
*
The TMC Tuning Box is around 1.5k in RM if we go for a group buy.
I heard from a friend who drives a 308 turbo is using an OEM tuning box.
No branding and whatsoever. Someone from the Pug club brought it in directly from Germany.
From his understanding, those boxes are actually suitable for all kinds of direct fuel injection turbo engines.
Not sure if it'll work on TSIs. I'll get his box and test it out later on and see if it works.

Not sure about the logger would detect the box. This needs to be verified nod.gif

QUOTE(tiganasfx @ Apr 26 2011, 05:40 PM)
Well whether its a tuning box or remapping you are basically tweaking your fuel/air ratio and injection timings. Same principle, so who is right? From the forums and internet they are both slagging off each other and I guess this argument will go on forever because by fooling the ECU or changing the manufacturer's software both will stress your engine and transmission beyond the manufacturer's specs although in different ways.
*
True, guess I'll be enjoying my stock ride for the time being.
The myth is all about it being detectable by the sc affecting warranty claim.
If a tuning box is so called not detectable and reversible, then it's worth the penny since it is cheaper comparing to an ECU remap.
If it's detectable even after removing, then we might as well go for a stage 1 remap.
Stressing the engine and transmission is quite subjective and it's depending on ur day to day driving attitude/style.
Remapping and tuning box helps to save fuel at times and at least they claim that they will, also it depends on how you drive.

Actually I don't thing the Box will be detectable by the SC but there may be error codes in the ECU due to the way the box works.

Why bother with tuning/remapping and saving fuel. Sounds contradicting.  biggrin.gif
*
Haha! True, but come to think of the fuel price, when you tend to drive slow it helps you save fuel tongue.gif
So it's like 1 stone hitting 2 birds biggrin.gif When you need performance u have it, when you want to save fuel you can brows.gif

Actually I have the VAGCOM already, just waiting for someone with a tuning box willing to do a test so can see if there are any error codes generated with it tongue.gif
*
Wow bro, ur VAGCOM can only detect errors? Or does it clear errors as well?

conclusion if your budget only allows for TSI, never ever test drive the GTI tongue.gif

two alternative is to remap the tsi or get the mk5 gti, also the mazda MPS, yet to test drive the car though

Added on May 1, 2011, 1:18 am
if i remembered correctly you said you drive 100+km everyday
where you live and work?
everyday drive TSI syiok or not?
*
Mazda 3 MPS is indeed a powerful car.
In fact, before decided to get GTI I did consider getting the MPS.
I went to Mazda showrooms and apparently there are no test drives available for the MPS.
I wonder how do ppl get convinced to get the car if they can't feel the fun and addiction of driving the car.
Too bad, I was discouraged by my family to get a manual car.

If u have no issues with manual cars, MPS is the way to go.
380nm of torque is no joke drool.gif

just tested with my friends civic EF with B16 but was slightly wet road just now..
both of our cars wheel spin like mad @ 1st and 2nd
i never use launch control and i manage to trail him around 2-3 cars...
not bad leh since his car is just a 1.6
so next time if u guys meet EK/EG/EF becareful.. they might have B18C inside confirm can tapau GTI smile.gif
*
I've driven an EK with B18C, it belongs to my gf's brother.
I like the way the vtec screams but it's not my type of car to drive around everyday.
Anyway, it handles great but stock B18C, I don't think it can tapau GTI easily.
Never really tested though. It's somehow on par I would say.
Still prefer the torque of a turbo charge engine tongue.gif

yea i also hate this kind of attitude...
that day i went to test drive the lexus CT200H @ damansara the sales women very very powerful 1...
maybe also cause i was young so her attitude sucks too
lucky i've driven prius b4 so i roughly know how to drive it, same system in the CT200H

she "ASSUMES" i know how to drive it.. never even teach me anything.. never explain to me...
and and.. the best part is... u guys sure laugh like mad... she told me.. oh this car got sports mode...
when u put sports mode ur gauge will turn to RED... ( thats all she said )

i was like.. "HAHAHAHA oh really?" in my head =.=
wonderful saleswomen man... ask her some question about the car.. she doesnt even know...
i done some research and i think i even know more about the car than her...
*
Still consider good lo... Manage to test drive the car.
I went to the showroom, nobody bother to even look at me.
No one gave a damn... really. I was damn pissed off even my dad was with me.
My dad said "it's ok la. I don't think u're into CT200h also. Lets not bother to test it"
So we left and went to VW Cergaz. Never experience anything bad about Cergaz though.
Tested both TSI and GTI there too.

Lexus u gotta make appointment to test drive car 1..
Yea the ct200h is really underpowered for its body.. Same engine as prius but 200kg heavier
If they had a pure petrol engine i would have bought it.. Really love the looks of ct200h
*
It's not about the test drive.
SA should have at least approach me and my dad.
Apparently, no one did. We're like invisible yawn.gif

If only the CT200h has an option with the "h" omitted, turbo charge and fc like a hybrid car.
That would be perfect rclxms.gif

Wow thats bad man. A dented new car is totally unacceptable. You should not even have accepted the car. But I hope they will resolve it for you soon. Keep us updated
*
Yes, that's right I was not going to accept but come to think of me needing the car to travel coz my car was sold, I had to accept. BTW, the dent was not too serious but still... a new car cry.gif
Since they promised to repair for me and get a courtesy car as my temporary car, i can still accept.
But for not even 24 hours the battery died on me, this is not acceptable.
I wanna complain to VGM, any1 had experience on complaining issues?
Email? Or calling them?

Go to VGM Bangsar...and look for Vannie Ang.

Well, an after sales service representitive of VGM called me an hour ago and repeating what did i told Vannie. Wasting my time by repeating the sh*t to him again. They should communicate instead of asking me again...Besides this, I refused to send my car to WEARNES SG BESI, so that they arrange the nearest dealer which located in Jalan IPOH to further dignose my car...

Will update here...
To all members here, Thank you very much for the support and care. smile.gif
*
Thanks, I changed my freaking battery and I emphasized to Cergaz saying that I need an agreement on my warranty validity, making sure that VGM WON'T void my warranty for changing third party battery.
They better settle this for me otherwise I will bring this up to some consumer rights thingy mad.gif

Security tints have some kind of marketing gimmick.
It might be able to take few hits from a blunt object, but if u try to hit with sharp object, it'll break easily.

TSI vs GTI running costs

I think it will be the same in the long run. for TSI, u save on roadtax and DSG oil costs but the TSI is actually more complicated then the GTI, so wear & tear costs would probably be higher

My GTI had better FC then my current TSI
*
Wow! That's surprising.
Are you heavy footed?
My GTI seems to be having quite bad FC.
Collected my car with 60% petrol and it went 200km when there's 20km left stated in the MFD range.
Pumped 52litres after that. Wasn't throttling it when i got it though.

Yeah the FC on my GTI was really bad on the first tank. Only got 380km but mostly city driving though. Now in 2nd tank and it shows can go about 450km. Should be getting better i hope. Did you face any QC issues on your GTI so far? Mine has the AFS bending lights failure indicator kept popping up on the MFD. Also, I've got squeeking noises on my seat.
*
After I pumped full tank, MFD showing me range 460KM.
I was like "ain't it suppose to be at least 10km/l?"
I didn't have the AFS failure indicator showing up though, but a lil rattle sound from the driver side door panel.
When I drive through uneven roads, it has some noises coming out from underneath my car.
Not sure what's the issue but I'll ask them to check tomorrow.
Will be sending my car back to TTDI to repair that stupid dent mad.gif

How do they intend to repair the 'dent'? I've seen some dented cars before delivery at car showrooms. Most of them were to be returned to the factory (or something like that). The customers were supposed to get a new one instead. I mean..... I wouldn't want my car with a dent. The throught of them banging it back into shape really ..... cannot imagine lah. If bumper dent, I will request for a new bumper instead. If door dent, request for new door.... at least something like that lah.
*
If the dent is caused during the shipment then it can be returned.
I think the dent is caused by some ladder or something.
They mention in the delivery agreement where I signed, "To repair the dented part to it's original and perfect condition".
They promised that it would not be noticeable at all after repairing.
I hope that is true. If I still notice something I was freaking make sure they repair until I can't see anything wrong! mad.gif

The max speed i've done so far was 180km/h.
Since it's still a new car, don't dare to go faster. lol

Yup ... but am more interested in the improvement in torque and acceleration. Nowadays, nearly all new cars can go 200+ km/h. All you need is a long and empty enough road.

Usable torque and acceleration is what I'm after.
*
Yea, even civic can go 200km/h.
Never tried on mine b4 i sold it off though.
But seriously, I was cruising on MEX just now and a civic just tailgated me when I was at 140-180km/h.
I was only able to shake him off at over 200km/h. I'm feeling the stress trying to drive so fast especially with the traffic during peak hours cry.gif
I don like to be tabao-ed by my ex ride doh.gif
