Photography HELP: My lens wont focus, in live view mode

hi all,

im new in photography and using nikon d3100 with 55-200mm lens but i realised earlier that the lens wont focus in live view mode but if i switch it back to view finder then it is ok.

is this normal and if it is not, what shud i do next as the lens is out of warranty? sad.gif

appreciate your kind advice.

I am not sure with nikon system, but if for Canon, the button to focus during live view is different. So maybe you will need to read your manual first and look for the answer in it. Btw, there should be a Nikon thread for you to ask and i believe you can get immediate answer in there.

hi bro,your lens need to be either AF-S and AF-I to make D3100 auto focus.others then that auto focus wont work for D3100.go to link that i've pasted below for more details "look at number 7"..Im also new in photography hope this helpful dude.

But in your case your lens is AF-s,For all"F 80–200mm f/2.8, AF 35–70mm f/2.8, AF 28–85mm f/3.5–4.5 (New), or AF 28–85mm f/3.5–4.5 "lenses, you need to Focus manually until image in viewfinder is in focus.
