Dermalogica Newsletter vol.47 [Face Exfoliator] by Dr. Diana Howard, Vice President of Research and DevelopmentRice seeds and Rice Bran have been used for thousands of years to relieve inflammation associated with skin diseases and for cleansing and softening skin. Traditionally, women in Japan have rubbed Rice Bran on their faces to keep their skin smooth and bright (this legion of women was called "Nuka-Bijin," meaning "bran beauty" in English).
Not limited to a skin care regimen of the upper class, female rice farmers used the water left over from washing white rice to bathe in and wash their face with for the same reasons: smooth, luminous, bright skin.
What do we attribute these benefits to? Chemical analysis of Rice Bran (the outer layer on brown rice) indicates it is a rich source of phytic acid and gamma oryzanol, which are highly beneficial to skin.
Rice Bran contains 10% Phytic Acid, which chelates, or "binds" calcium ions, helping to loosen cell cohesion and promote cell sloughing (or microfoliation). Phytic Acid also chelates copper, thereby inhibiting the tyrosinase enzyme. (The tyrosinase enzyme triggers melanin formation, which leads to hyperpigmentation or "sun spots."
Gamma Oryzanol, a derivative of Vitamin B, provides enhanced antioxidant protection, softens skin and provides anti-itch properties all while contributing in inhibition of melanin.
Daily Microfoliant uses stabilized Rice Bran to ensure optimum biological activity of its complex mixture of plant nutrients; stability is maintained by protecting the Rice Bran powder from moisture. That is why Daily Microfoliant activates only upon contact with water - water causes the Rice Bran to swell and release the active ingredients that help smooth and brighten skin.
Daily Microfoliant's exclusive microfoliation process is enhanced by Papain (derived from Papaya) and Salicylic Acid, two ingredients that loosen the cohesion of cells in the outer layers of skin and dissolve the intercellular glue that holds the cells in place. In addition, soothing Green Tea, Oatmeal, Allantoin, and Licorice calm skin while Oatmeal flakes lift away impurities and smooth skin.
Check out what the press has to say about Daily Microfoliant, and why this gentle, daily-use exfoliant is a must-have in your healthy skin care regimen! And, for an effective three-part system of products specially designed to brighten and balance uneven pigmentation, ask your skin therapist about Skin Brightening System, which contains Daily Microfoliant, Day Bright(tm) SPF15 and Night Bright(tm).
Want to know more about skin brightening treatments? Find a skin therapist near you who can talk with you about professional skin treatments that will help smooth, brighten and minimize the appearance of hyperpigmentation.
QUOTE daily microfoliant(R), 75g skin condition: all, except users of prescribed exfoliators This unique, Rice-based enzyme powder activates upon contact with water, releasing Papain, Salicylic Acid and Rice Enzymes to smooth the skin and accelerate cell renewal. Our unique Skin Brightening Complex of Bearberry, Aspergillus, Grapefruit and Licorice helps to balance uneven skin pigmentation. Active agents derived from Rice Bran and Rice Extract help to regulate melanin production while micro-exfoliating dead cells. A super-soothing blend of Green Tea, Ginkgo and Colloidal Oatmeal calms inflammation, leaving the skin extraordinarily clear and refreshed. Gentle enough to use on a daily basis. Fragrance free. Professional recommendation advised.
how it works Rice Bran and Rice Extract gently microfoliate skin surface to facilitate penetration of the Skin Brightening Complex. Papain Enzyme and Salicylic Acid help dissolve excess surface cells. Skin Brightening Complex of Licorice and Bearberry helps even skin tone. see why the press loves this product!QUOTE NewWoman - In an article on how to achieve radiant, red-carpet worthy shimmering skin, make-up artist Natasha Severino says Daily Microfoliant "stimulates the skin and tightens pores for a perfectly prepped canvas."
Elle - Listed as a Top 5 Facial Exfoliant that "gets rid of blackheads and oil." Dermalogica makes it into Elle Canada's Beauty All-Stars not once, but twice! Elle's beauty advisory council picked 63 of the most treasured beauty products. Power Rich tops the list of Nighttime Moisturizers and Daily Microfoliant was picked as one of the top Facial Products.
Marie Claire - Our awesome new Daily Microfoliant gets full-page mention (page 265) as a kinder, gentler alternative to the rough stuff. Attached image(s)

Hi NaiveLady, Hmm... mind me say such a complicated skin condition Skin care is really important though. At one shot i dont think you can target all regimen for the above problem. however you can get the basic cleansing(cleanser/moisture) >condition care(blackheads/eye care) >boost up(freckles/sunscreen)

Dear All, I am glad to assist. Hope it helps. Thanks and enjoy your days

skin hydrating booster can restore your dehydrated skin, it is a Super-saturated hydration for the driest skin conditions, this intensive hydrating fluid revitalizes parched skin. Hydrates, smoothes and minimizes fine lines plus moisture balance. its hydrating fluids, i dont think it is oily, im using it everyday What about this? Special cleansing gel -Multi-Active Toner -hydrating booster -Active Moist/Oil Control Lotion
note: oil control lotion is serum to reduce oil secretion; active moist is oil-free moisturiser. This post has been edited by rayanne: May 21 2007, 04:35 PM

Hi Rayanne, I'm a newbie in dermalogica products. Was introduced to it by my sister and will usually get her products at the Leonard Drake outlet at Mid-valley. Well, lately my skin has been giving me problems. Sudden red patches would appear on my face & sometimes it tends to be itchy as well. So my sister recommended me to try out the sensitive travel kit from dermalogica. I've tried it for a few days & noted that my skin has gotten better. My skin seems clearer & no sudden inflamation & redness as well. Am thinking of sticking to this one brand as the other brands that I've tried out like skinfood, loreal & etc... doesn't seem to work as well as dermalogica. I'm also currently looking for an anti-aging cream for my face as well... could you recommend something for me? Thanks..

My skin is dry and tends to be a bit sensitive, since the multivitamin power firm for eye & lip area is suitable for sensitive skin, do you think it would suit me as well? Am also curious on the pricing for the extra firming booster as well... thinking of getting it next time but not sure whether it'll be ok for my skin?? Could you quote me the pricing for: 1. Soothing Protection Spray 2. Barrier Repair 3. Extra Firming Booster 4. Multivitamin Power Firm 5. Total Eye Care Hehe.... one more question, compare to the multivitamin power firm & total eye care, which would be better?
